VIM is a standard and long time used tool in the Linux world. It is a default installed app that i preinstalled on every Linux flavor I know of.

Vim (or at least vi) is virtually guaranteed to be available on any machine you encounter. It is one of two extremely powerful command line editors (the other being Emacs) with a tough learning curve but huge payoffs in productivity.

vim's ability to code in another server, remote code editing is the best part, screen split is also very good feature, very fast editor, large file support other editor hangs if file is of large size
