Smooth Setup with Excellent Interface and QR Integration

I like the interface of Shelf Asset Management (Shelf.nu). I find the QR code functionality really useful. We put QR codes on our items, which makes them scannable either via the iOS app or using our barcode scanner. When we scan the QR, it shows the exact item in Shelf. The setup was smooth, with over 700 assets.

Reliable, Flexible, and Backed by a Team That Cares

Shelf has completely transformed how we manage equipment in our Cinema Department at Los Angeles City College. After testing other platforms like Snipe-IT and Cheqroom, Shelf stood out as the perfect balance of features, fair pricing, and flexibility without the risk of being locked into a vendor that could raise prices year after year. What I value most is how much the team cares about their users. Carlos has been amazing at listening to feedback and rolling out updates quickly. Bugs I have reported were often fixed in a day or two, which is rare for any software platform. On the functional side, importing assets through CSV was simple and the team even provided pre-assigned QR IDs, allowing us to design our own custom equipment tags. That alone saved us thousands of dollars compared to buying pre-made tags, and gave us the ability to include helpful details like contact information, item names, and serial numbers. The availability view has been a game changer for day-to-day operations. We went from having zero clarity about what gear was in circulation to being able to see exactly when items are due back through a simple calendar interface. It has made communicating with students about equipment availability so much easier.

A great open-source solution to asset management

This app does a great job of the often complex task of asset management, no matter what your assets are (we're a video production company with in-house kit and various physical resources). The UI is modern and clear, and the features are just what we needed; add in a bunch of assets and their metadata, create kits, then be able to book them out across multiple users. We've not implemented QR codes yet, but we'll be rolling our own stickers for this very soon. The ability to simply use the phone in your pocket instead of some expensive scanner handset is great. Being open-source, the ability to fork your own version and build out your own features on top of the great work the Shelf team have done so far is super useful if you can't wait for features your organisation needs to be implemented (obviously you'll need dev experience for this, it's not straightforward if you're not a developer).
