Scrimba's platform redefines how coding is taught. Being able to pause and edit live code during lessons made complex React concepts like hooks and state management so much easier to grasp. The instructors are clear, engaging, and you can really tell they understand what they're talking about in the way that they teach and the analogies they use. A lot of content is taught through developing applications yourself, that mirror real-world projects which is super helpful too. Their community is also well-knit and provided valuable guidance and motivation throughout my journey, and after only a short while of using Scrimba, I gained the skills to pass my first technical interview for a front-end engineer position!
A little bit about my background story:
Before I decided to stick with Scrimba, I had attempted several times to learn front-end development as a non-tech beginner (I have been a marketer for 5 years) online after my day job but always ended up giving up. I had subbed to some major e-learning platforms (e.g Coursera), but was very frustrated after a dozen video or text-only courses that were hosted by some of FAANG's teams -- I found it really hard to keep up with the lectures as soon as some slightly advanced concepts turned up, and then I would get stuck in the process with no one to turn to. Of course, I could always google the answer, but most of the time I didn't even know what to ask or where to start since these were all new concepts to me!
Then I found Scrimba's frontend course on Coursera and gave it a go, and immediately I got addicted to their learn-while-you-code way of teaching -- I got to code along IN the video!! (I believe it's called Scrims) How cool and fun is that! And Scrimba teachers always introduce the coding concepts with real-life scenarios (i.e what you would normally encounter in your role as a developer), and little projects, which I get to code along one step at a time with the teachers, and which I can actually showcase as my personal projects in my portfolio. :)
After a few modules, I immediately decided to stick with Scrimba and went for their official platform's Pro plan, which gives me access to all the developer courses (my main goal is to be a proud Frontend Developer Career Path graduate ;P).
Scrimba teachers are professional, patient, friendly, and passionate about their work in the community, which is really inspiring for someone (I mean me ;)) who's new to web development & design and determined to change careers to pursue what they're really passionate about. :)
Scrimba's Discord community is supporting, friendly, and very well-managed -- dedicated channels for respective developer courses, help sections, and regular weekly events for various tech and career topics. As someone who's currently in between jobs, joining a vibrant and welcoming community really helps with the learning journey -- it makes me feel less alone! :)
So far, I've been really enjoying my frontend developer journey with the Scrimba community, and I intend to finally truly make my career switch at the end! *(A big shoutout to the lovely human beings at Scrimba who make learning to code accessible for everyone!)* :)
The interface is exceptionally user-friendly. For most lectures the shorter duration really helps with keeping concentrated and makes me feel feel gratified on each completion thus making me want to continue more of the playlist. Scrimba being known for it's Front-end course and then proving that they'll do a wonderful job teaching you frontend as soon as you start interacting with their platform speaks volumes. I am throroughly impressed. As of now I have enrolled myself in the Python Course which is one of many available courses apart from their flagship FrontEnd Course and it's free too. Love the cost-effectiveness and open-education ideology. The integration and interaction between the tutorial and the online IDE is powerful enough to always want me to try out different experiments within a lesson. Customer Support is easily accessible and by the means of quick interactive lessons I can notice how much more frequently I use it as compared to other platforms.
