Mint was designed as a desktop environment as an analog to MS Windows. Much of the user interface was put together with that in mind. Previous windows users will find a transition from Windows to Mint to be pretty intuitive and user friendly. The installation processes walks you right through and being linux, it runs fantastically on machines with older hardware. It's a great way to give some additional life to your machine. Being Linux, Mint still has all the supreme functionality, security and performance that you would expect from Linux. You just get it in a prettier package. The software is opensource and free.
