THE BEST FREE SVG EDITOR SO FAR

The part I like about Inkscape the most is that it is FREE and provides functionality and features just like those payment-required vector data editors do, which is lovely.

Inkscape is Open Source. No bank-breaking license fees. It's got plenty of tutorials online for getting things done. It is simple enough to not be overwhelming, yet powerful enough to get the work done.
