While document-oriented databases like MongoDB could have worked here, we wanted a strictly defined schema. The GraphQL API is provided out of the box, delivering the needed flexibility in data querying for service consumers.

It has good type checking and graphQL like query support. Also provides json support and has good performance in general after some tuning. Overall developer friendly expierience.

It is open-source DB and it does combine graph, document, and relational databases. It features a unified data model, intuitive EdgeQL query language, and high scalability. EdgeDB ensures data integrity and flexibility, making it a versatile database solution.
