I've tried a bunch of different "user onboarding" products and always found it hard to make something that actually looks good and doesn't require constant eng effort. Came across CommandBar and seemed like they had a different approach than the other vendors. In particular, I liked how they let the user search for what they're looking using their own words not having to rely on our product terminology in addition to "push" them stuff (via the messages and checklists). Plus everything just feels better designed. Great tool that our product, eng, and growth teams can all use to improve our overall UX.
I like how CommandBar allows our product team to implement their ideas without explaining them to our engineering team. It’s easy to create, preview, and implement stuff like announcement, feature spotlights, and other various notifications.
I also like that it gives us insight into analytics, enhancing our ability to understand how users use our app. We connected Commandbar to Segment to combine the data they generate with our other analytics data that lives in Redshift. The integration is also neat because it lets us use events we already set up for building “conditions” to do things like control when a command is available in the command bar or when to show a “questlist” or nudge.
We use CommandBar mainly to make our help content (articles and videos) easy for users to access. We have a couple people at our company dedicated to producing this type of content. Very high production value but they weren’t getting much engagement so we decided to figure out a way to increase engagement or decrease investment. Once we found CommandBar we integrated it with Freshdesk, where our docs are authored, and added some videos from our Youtube channel. I really like how it’s easy for users to search for what they are interested in and how we can push specific content to them via “nudge”.
