Stable and Reliable. Open source. It is better than other Linux Flavours. It is easily compatible with RHEL.

Perfect for starting out in Linux!

I'd wager that the open source nature of the CentOS Enterprise distribution is arguably the best feature there is to it, encompassing all it has to offer. However, to name a few, I have seen CentOS as the OS of choice for new Interns in the industry due to the os being an enterprise version. Another great feature is the small size of the CentOS minimal which allows me to spin up a new VM easily whenever I want.

What is CentOS?

CentOS is an Enterprise-class Linux Distribution derived from sources freely provided to the public by a prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor. CentOS conforms fully with the upstream vendors redistribution policy and aims to be 100% binary compatible. (CentOS mainly changes packages to remove upstream vendor branding and artwork.) CentOS is free. CentOS is developed by a small but growing team of core developers. In turn the core developers are supported by an active user community including system administrators, network administrators, enterprise users, managers, core Linux contributors and Linux enthusiasts from around the world.
