I got introduced to ArtRage by a colleague (illustrator). From the first tryout i really liked the paint textures (especially oil & watercolor). They are precise and give a natural look and feel to the illustrations. The brushes and pencils are working smoothly with the aid of a Wacom tablet. One important asset is the transparent layer that gives you the chance to quick-edit an image the way traditional animators do. The color palette interface is also friendly and easy to use. I would overall say it is a software built for digital painters and traditional illustrators that need a more friendly interface than Adobe's Photoshop or Illustrator.
I like the feel of real colors. I use pen-tab and it's the closest digital software to a real canvas. I'm not very proficient or pro artist, but I love the way it helps me in creating the real paper or canvas like effects. All the provided textures feel so real plus on a real canvas mixing all the different materials won't be possible, but here you can produce various hybrid effects, which will amaze you. Imagination knows no boundary, so does this software. For someone who loves painting, this is best digital ally, one can ask for.
