Personalization Engines Market Definition

Personalization engines, sometimes called digital personalization engines, analyze customer data collected from outside software or from customer behavior to curate and tailor customer experiences including automated marketing efforts, websites, and product recommendations. These tools automate the process of segmenting, testing, and distributing 1:1 marketing efforts, ensuring campaigns are effective and memorable.

Personalization engines are often a feature of tools utilized by marketing teams. They are often built into or integrate with customer data platforms (CDP) and digital experience platforms (DXP). They also work closely with content experience software and A/B testing software to create a full, personalized content creation and distribution cycle.

Personalization engines overlap with e-commerce personalization software in that both aim to tailor presented content to buyers; however, the former is a more generalized engine while the latter can only be used in e-commerce contexts.

To qualify for inclusion in the Personalization Engine category, a product must:

  • Consolidate customer data across customer experience channels
  • Create and deliver personalized customer experiences through multiple channels
  • Allow users to create custom personalizations
  • Utilize machine learning, segmentation, and A/B testing to create customer profiles
Results Index Description

A product’s Results score is calculated by a proprietary algorithm that factors in real-user satisfaction ratings for a number of results-related review questions. Software buyers can compare products in the Personalization Engines category according to their Results scores to streamline the buying process and quickly identify the products that produce the best results based on the experiences of their peers. For sellers, media, investors, and analysts, the Index provides benchmarks for product comparison and market trend analysis.

Badges are awarded to products for: Best Results (highest overall Results score), Best Estimated ROI (based on a combination of estimated time to ROI and time to go live), and Users Most Likely to Recommend (highest likelihood to recommend score).

Products included in the Results Index for Personalization Engines | Summer 2022 have received both a minimum of 10 reviews and 5 responses from real users for each of the results-related questions featured in our review form by May 31, 2022. These ratings may change as the products are further developed, the sellers grow, and as additional opinions are shared by users. A new Results Index report will be issued for this category as significant data is collected.
