LabVIEW become the de facto standard for engineering system development there established its niche.
In my opinion, graphical programming and the G language should become an evolutionary continuation of text-based programming. All the prerequisites for this are in place, and the advancement of LabVIEW is progressing (though not as quickly as one might hope). On the other hand, perhaps that's for the best, as there is less competition.
