G2’s 2022 Fall Reports for software categories are out. Let’s get an update on the state of what users think of and rate their data privacy management software this quarter.
Satisfaction scores: product quality and ease
Five data privacy management software products met or exceeded the average rating in all of G2’s “Simple Six” Satisfaction areas. |
We ask users of data privacy management products G2’s “Simple Six” satisfaction questions that include the following:
- If their product meets their requirements
- How easy it is to administer the product
- How easy it is to do business with the product owners
- The quality of support they receive
- The ease of product setup
- The ease of using the product
The chart below is sorted by an additional column, “Likelihood to recommend” with the greatest scores listed first.
Five data privacy management products stand out as having either met or earned above average ratings in all of G2’s “simple six” satisfaction areas, which include products (listed by likelihood to recommend rating):
Products that have consistently met or exceeded the average user Satisfaction rating include Ethyca (five of six areas) and DPOrganizer (four of six areas).
Product TrustArc met or exceeded the average user Satisfaction score in two of six areas, while products OneTrust Privacy and Data Governance Cloud and SureCloud met or exceeded the Satisfaction average in one of six areas. While products Segment, Collibra, and SAI 360 did not exceed the average in any Satisfaction area.
G2’s Fall Report for Data Privacy Management Software is based on data from user reviews gathered prior to August 30, 2022.
The mid-market segment is seeing the most review activity
The bulk of our reviews in the top 13 data privacy management software products come from professionals at mid-market companies (51-100 employees). Across this group, 48% of reviewers came from mid-market, while 34% of reviews came from employees at enterprise companies (100+ employees) and 18% from small businesses (50 or fewer employees).
Breaking down data privacy management by product, we see that the majority of reviewers come from professionals in segments (listed alphabetically):
- Mid-market: DataGrail, DPOrganizer, Ethyca, Mine PrivacyOps, Segment, Transcend, TrustArc
- Enterprise: Collibra, OneTrust Privacy and Data Governance Cloud, SAI 360, Securiti, and SureCloud
- Small business: Osano
How fast can companies implement data privacy management solutions?
A challenge facing many companies is getting prepared in time for new legislation coming into force in 2023, including the following:
- California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA): January 1, 2023
- Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (CDPA): January 1, 2023
- Colorado Privacy Act (CPA): July 1, 2023
- Utah Consumer Privacy Act: December 31, 2023
- Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA): July 1, 2023
Implementing a data privacy management software solution within an organization’s timeline is critical. Based on the review data from users of data privacy management software, we see that the reported fastest-to-implement data privacy management solution is Mine PrivacyOps, followed by DPOrganizer, Osano, and Segment, all under one month. Solutions taking between two to three months include Securiti, DataGrail, Transcend, SureCloud, and TrustArc. OneTrust Privacy and Data Governance Cloud takes three and a half months to be implemented. And the solutions taking over five months include SAI 360 and Collibra. We did not have data on the product Ethyca to include in this analysis.
Average implementation times include:
- One month or less: DPOrganizer, MinePrivacyOps, Osano, and Segment
- Between two to three months: DataGrail, Security, SureCloud, Transcend, and TrustArc
- Between three to four months: OneTrust Privacy and Data Governance Cloud
- Five or more months: Collibra and SAI 360
When do companies achieve ROI on their data privacy management solutions?
As we enter an era of tightened budgets, getting ROI for the software they purchase is even more of a priority for companies. On average, companies see ROI within 19 months for their data privacy management software solutions.

- ROI in less than one year: DataGrail and Mine PrivacyOps
- ROI between one to two years: OneTrust Privacy and Data Governance Cloud, Osano, Securiti, Segment, TrustArc

Is a product going in the right direction?
On average, users of data privacy management software rate the direction of the software they’re using in a positive, yet satisfactory direction at 91%. The majority of the products fall near this range.
What is the quality of support for data privacy management software solutions?
On average, users of data privacy management software rate the quality of support at 93%. Users getting the assistance they seek remains generally positive.
How easy is it to use data privacy management software?
On average, users of data privacy management software rate the quality of support at 89%.
What about customer loyalty?
Data privacy management software user customer loyalty is all over the place as measured by net promoter scores (NPS), a common metric used in customer experience programs.
Right now, some data privacy management software products are scoring well with a perfect 100 score, while other products are scoring low in the high 30s. The message here is that B2B data privacy tech vendors shouldn’t rest on their laurels, because data privacy management buyers are willing to switch providers in the future.
On average, data privacy management software’s NPS is 70. NPS is calculated by taking the percentage of promoter scores of 90 to 100 ratings minus the percentage of detractors (60 and below). This omits “passive” supporter scores.
Users are happy, but open to easier alternatives
The Data Privacy Management Software category is relatively new with a majority of the sellers offering such solutions being less than six years old.
This software area has a lot of growth ahead of it for products that satisfy their users’ needs. Users generally recommend their products to others, but are open to alternative solutions, as measured by NPS scores, and specifically would like to see improvements in the ease of setup area.
