While their price quote was on-market, they were unable to deliver the product and were an absolute pain to deal with. I've worked with dozens of web scraping vendors in the past and Zyte has, by far, been the worst. **What do you dislike about Zyte?** I had a terrible experience with Zyte. I worked with their sales team to scope a project where they would provide a database that they contiunually scrape. They stated that the project was simple, and we negotiated a scope of work with a pushy sales rep. After deal sign, we began to experience a significant number of issues with Zyte. See summary below: - They made me pay up-front, and said that the data delivery could not start until they had received payment in full. This caused a multi-week delay to the project. - After receiving payment, Zyte took weeks to organize the data delivery, despite the sales rep saying that they had the data I was looking for as a pre-baked offering and did not require additional qeb scraping. - The actual data delivery was slow, and again took weeks. It was at least 5 weeks from contract sign to when the data started to flow. - Partially into the data delivery, we noticed that we were receiving significantly fewer records from certain datasets than Zyte had promised during the sales process (we were receiving <30% of records). We pointed this out to Zyte, and it took them a significant amount of time before they admitted their mistake and were forthcoming about the fact that they could not deliver on what they promised during the sales process. - At this point, our project had been delayed by ~6 weeks. Once Zyte told us that they would not be able to deliver most of the data that we had paid for, we asked for a refund (the project required the full data set). - Zyte refused the refund, stating that we had already received partial data so they could not give us our money back. At this point, they started taking ~1 week to respond to our emails. - After SIGNIFICANT pushing, Zyte finallly agreed to refund us and cancel the project. It then took ~3 more weeks to actually receive our refund and many follow-ups with their finance team. Overall, the fact that Zyte made us pay before delivering the data is extremely irresponsible and off-market. Especially if there was any doubt that they could actually deliver the data. In rare instances, issues and bans can arise straight after the contract was signed, which may impact the time to deliver the data or the data quality. We are currently charging upfront set up fees as standard practice and we are starting now to explore other avenues in this regard. Contractually we start on payment, however we often begin work ahead of that, subject to capacity. We note from your review that you received a full refund. It’s not something we need to do often and again we are truly sorry it took long and more than you expected to agree, communicate and proceed. We really appreciate your detailed feedback and please be assured we have already addressed these issues internally to prevent similar situations in the future.
