It has allowed me to maintain a much more fluid communication with my work team **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Jefersson A. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2020 **What do you like best about Zeplin?** It has allowed me to maintain a much more fluid communication with my work team, since through its platform we can communicate about what each person is developing and in the same way communicate about the errors existing during the development of the program, the fact of That we can send a large number of files through their platform is quite useful to me, since email communications tend to identify code files as malware and do not allow us to attach them to send them to colleagues, not to mention that other aspect Quite useful is the fact that it allows screen sharing, which has worked perfectly for me when we want to test the software we are developing. **What do you dislike about Zeplin?** Sometimes it gets a little slow but I suspect it is due to the speed of the internet connection. **What problems is Zeplin solving and how is that benefiting you?** Most of all, it has been helping my team and me to have good communication throughout the development of the application that we are designing, since it seems to us the most complete and safe option to achieve it, without having any type of problems with sending files and being able to do the software unit tests through the same application. ### 3. Other platforms are a guessing game if the service will be up or not. I never have to worry about this with Zeplin. Organizing screens by section or by tag is very simple and multiple user types can set those up. Developer specs are easy to access and customize per each engineer's needs. **What do you dislike about Zeplin?** It would be nice to be able to have multiple levels of organization within a section. Sometimes I end up creating two sections for the same type of screens whereas a Parent section with a Child section would make more sense for the designer but also others not as familiar with the screens. Would also like Zeplin to work better with Auto-Layout from Sketch. It's hard to select layers in Zeplin if there is a hidden layer on top of it. Also the dimensions sometimes show 24.40px or similar when in Sketch it's actually an even 24px. The permission levels are more confusing than other platforms. There are Admins, Editors, Members, and Aliens. Other platforms have two permission levels which makes it easier. **Recommendations to others considering Zeplin:** Sketch, Figma, Abstract **What problems is Zeplin solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main problems we're solving are communication between design and development. Both disciplines have a lot of work on their plate and can't be tethered to each other all the time to communicate so Zeplin delivers that information back and forth seamlessly. It's also great for distributed or offshore teams where you can't be in the same room and dig into the design and code together. ### 4. One of the best parts of the hand off process is the ability to export in various formats and dimensions such Android, iOS, x2, x3. The styleguide feature is extremely useful when switching in between different brands or projects that utilize specific colors, fonts, and repeating styles. **What do you dislike about Zeplin?** Limited amount of projects in the free version and limited amount of collaborators you can have on the free version as well. Downgrading from a paid version to the free version archives all projects but one. Limited on-screen note taking and editing ability, specifically not be able to add dynamic notes and links. If your offline or on very low connection speed you really cannot utilize the tool since it relies on internet connectivity. **Recommendations to others considering Zeplin:** Zeplin is an amazing tool for streamlining the handoff process between designers and developers. **What problems is Zeplin solving and how is that benefiting you?** How much time it takes to hand off designs and also the accuracy and precision of the transfer of design styles to CSS and HTML elements that make it easy for developers to work with. The online website is also fairly quick and allows designers and developers to work on different devices and platforms since Zeplin utilizes the cloud which allows for on-demand uploads for quick collaboration between designers and developers. ### 7. Your collaborators can be cross platform, using a Mac, PC, or web. **What do you dislike about Zeplin?** The price is a little steep for a tool that only really does one thing, and you do have to spend a little time onboarding new clients or collaborators. So designers can tagged screen with module name. The tagging and project creation is a great way for multiple designers to be able to share files in one space without workflows being unduly impacted. **What do you dislike about Zeplin?** The pricing structure is pretty inflexible – in a previous company we looked into getting a smaller number of licences at a reduced rate, but had no opportunity to do so and upgrade. Some of the export functionality is a little manual still – having to ensure that artboards or individual elements in a design are set to 'exportable' before they can be downloaded for use from Zeplin. Other design tools have arisen to reduce the necessity to use multiple apps in the workflow (Sketch + Zeplin etc) which over time might impact Zeplin. **Recommendations to others considering Zeplin:** If you use Sketch in your design and prototyping workflow, and don't currently utilise Zeplin, you'll find it saves a huge amount of time writing design specs and redlining. And I must ask him to give them to me. It increased my productivity by so much, I cannot even measure it. Working with all those illustrator or photoshop files always took forever first to load, open, then to navigate around all the possible layers and details of the mockup, then figuring out all the sizes, distances, and a million of other nitty gritty things of the design that you are working with. But, thanks to Zeplin, I can forget all about this useless hustle. My workflow drastically changed and improved by a lot. I save so much time now working with mockups and, therefore, can spend more time actually coding and developing websites from it. Besides, Zeplin has a billion of such awesome and useful features to offer that I could not even wish for before, like showing actual CSS for divs, text, boxes, shapes, etc. It measures the distance between different details of the mockup, it is super user-friendly and intuitive and so much easier to use. Also, you do not have to own or download any apps on your PC (but you also can, if you want to) in order to use it, you can just got to their on-line app and do everything straight in your browser. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. Zeplin is the best and it has so much more to offer. The integration is seamless, updating screens and artboards is a easy, and the Zeplin markup and notation tools are intuitive and helpful. Organizing artboards within Zeplin is very straight forward and it is easy to keep large projects organized. Building a style guide that can actually be implemented in code is really easy. It's not perfect but it works really well and version control is really good. **What do you dislike about Zeplin?** Limited "free" tier makes it challenging to keep more than a few projects active at once but thats not unreasonable. I've heard that the code is not always great but it is definitely passable and useable. **Recommendations to others considering Zeplin:** Zeplin is useful for small teams and for managing smaller projects. At the moment we need to add each individual separately and that could lead to missing certain folks on projects.
