What do you like best about XenServer?

Citrix Hypervisor (formally called XenServer) is very stable and is my Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp hypervisor platform for my hospital and does everything extremely well. I do not need all the extra bells and whistles to establish a very sound hypervisor platform Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about XenServer?

My current version did not allow for the XenMotion to migrate a VM with a vGPU attached (similiar to vMotion in VMWare) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering XenServer:

This is a very mature and stable alternative to VMWare with a very good track record. I have been running production Citrix on XenServer (Hypervisor) for over 10 years Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is XenServer solving and how is that benefiting you?

Needed a very reliable and stable hypervisor platform to run a 24x7 Citrix environment, both applications via Xenapp, VDA and VDI with XenDesktop. Since Xenapp 6.5, I have migrated to XenDesktop 7.15 LTSR and everything works extremely well together with ONE vendor supporting it all Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about XenServer?

Citrix has an easy to manage interface which is quite Administrator friendly. One can manage the XenServer clusters.

Citrix XenServer offers great features in terms of Networking. It offers SR-IOV capabilities that enable low bandwidth network connection for the Virtual Machines. On top of that, its easy to manage networks and create bonded network for performance and reliability is easy.

In terms of Storage, Citrix XenServer offers great features like SMB Storage, Live Migration etc. It offers dedicated features of Citrix Virtual apps and desktops such as MCS Read Cache and PVS Accelarator that boost the performance of VDI tremendously. PVS Accelerator drastically brings down the boot time for Network streamed machines by caching them locally. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about XenServer?

The knowledge base is not big enough to have solutions for all the issues out there. Most of the time you will fix the Cluster just by restarting the xapi service. However, you will not find a exact solution or the exact cause on why something happened. Though, the Hypervisor itself is very good in terms of perfomances and managability. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering XenServer:

If you are using Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop then you should consider Citrix Hypervisor since it most likely already comes with your existing license plus it offers great features to support Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktop. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is XenServer solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have VDI environment that we have hosted using the Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. We use it to deliver the virtualized apps and desktops to our users over a secure channel to enable them to work from home. Due to the nature of VDI, it must be very high performing to meet the work from home requirements for end users.

We decided to implement Citrix Hypervisor in our environment because of its features to improve performance of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. Two such features are MCS Read cache that caches virtualized desktop and application workloads in host RAM, providing fast, scalable access and dramatically reducing off-host IOPS thus increasing the performance.

Another one is PVS Accelerator that integrates with Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS) to cache the streamed vDisk locally on Hypervisor to dramatically reduce network traffic, enabling fewer PVS servers to handle the same volume of VMs. This is a great feature if your VDI are maanaged by the PVS Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about XenServer?

The best part I loved about it that I can work with any of the Virtual System accordingly. Like I have Libre Application installed on my system, but, when I want to work on Microsoft Office application, I access Xen Center and work on any machine having required MS Office version. One can easily save the space on his/her system when there is an application installed on VM, then there is no need to install, if the size of the application is big, that on your system, this will not only increase the space but, allows a user to work with more software also. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about XenServer?

The thing I didn't like at all is that We have to keep patience while working with Citrix. It works very slow sometimes. Especially when I have to complete my work on urgent basis then I face difficulties with its speed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering XenServer:

to maintain the speed only. otherwise, its a perfect application to work with. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is XenServer solving and how is that benefiting you?

Easily operating different applications simultaneously on different machines, which even saves space on a particular system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
