I like that Workiva helps me link data directly into reports so that it updates flow automatically and reduces the chance of human error. The initial setup of Workiva was really easy.

It does take a while to get comfortable with it.

I use Workiva to connect multiple data sources into one platform, reducing human error. It links data directly into reports, updating flows automatically and eliminating the need to redo work.

I like the Risk and Control layout, as well as the testing module, where all the testing steps are accessible in a single view.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

I wish Workiva had the ability to track issues seamlessly from control through remediation. Right now, all issues have to be tracked manually, which makes the process more difficult than it needs to be.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It keeps track of our entire SOX program, including risks, controls, and testing procedures.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I appreciate that Workiva significantly enhances our risk management process, making it far more efficient. I also find it highly beneficial for our compliance framework control mapping, which promises to simplify future audit preparations. The automation and data linking features stand out as particularly useful, streamlining our tasks and processes substantially. Overall, while I am still discovering its full potential as a fairly new user, I am quite satisfied with the capabilities offered by Workiva.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

Setting up Workiva was a bit challenging due to some difficulties encountered during implementation. Although the implementation process was generally good, there were issues with data corruption, which were not completely addressed by the setup itself. Additionally, I underestimated the amount of work required post-implementation, which added unexpected workload. I also find that the policies workspace does not automate tasks for policy approval based on data information, which could improve overall efficiency.

The system is easy to navigate. It also calculates the forms making them easier to complete.

The system can have glitches with multiple people entering in data at the same time. It also does not export to excel where the format prints easily.

It makes completing our form 2 FERC requirements easier. It allows us to collaborate across different departments to make sure that our forms are correct and accurate.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I have been using Workiva for about four years, and it has profoundly impacted our regulatory processes. The most valuable feature of Workiva is its data link key engine, which serves as the backbone of the software, providing a comprehensive view of data management. Workiva has made distributing spreadsheet tasks and maintaining consistency in figures between various reports seamless and automatic. This automated approach has dramatically reduced the time needed for public reporting, providing significant efficiency gains. The integration capabilities of Workiva with systems like our Oryn system are also noteworthy, as we can utilize the platform alongside other software without isolation. This integration has been crucial for us in simplifying complex tasks and improving the overall report and presentation accuracy for external records and board objectives.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

I found the setup process for Workiva to be quite rigorous and technically complex, which made it challenging due to its intensive resource demands. Additionally, I encountered issues with the user experience, particularly for administrators and configurators, which highlighted an area that could benefit from improvement. I enjoy how Workiva can operate across workspaces from SEC reporting, statutory reporting, SOX controls compliance, etc while providing great dashboards for managing tasks and review comments. **What do you like best about Workiva?**

The platform is easy to use and the linking capability saves our team a lot of time and headache since we know that the numbers are linked across a variety of documents, spreadsheets, charts and presentations. It allows for easy collaboration with the commenting feature, and we always have a full audit trail since we can set permissions easily, track changes/versions and see who has edited down to a cell level.  I like the automation features to send review notices or lock sections when we've marked them in a certain status as well as the mark up feature that makes tie-outs much more efficient. The XBRL review is also super clean and easy to do within the platform. I appreciate that they are continuously trying to improve the platform and introduce new or improved features based on user feedback.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

New features are not always communicated well or aren't available for all users, often requiring you to be on a more expense solution to gain access. You do have a dedicated Customer Success Manager but it seems they often prefer to point you to help articles or videos vs. actually fixing the issues you're having themselves. In general, I've found you need to be pretty self sufficient to use the software. Additionally, while they've made their platform look and feel like Microsoft Office, which makes using it easier, it doesn't have ALL of the capabilities of those (e.g. not all chart formats are supported; export to Microsoft Word often gets messed up) which can be frustrating at times.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workiva has helped created a single source of truth across all of our external reporting processes, which cuts down on prep and review time, allowing us to focus on more value-added tasks. It allows for easy and timely collaboration, especially helpful when working on a completely remote team working across different locations and time zones.  It's a secure, audible platform that gives us peace of mind that our data is safe and we can track all changes.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

Workiva has certainly enhanced our controls and automation when generating reports. It has also been extremely valuable for maintaining data continuity. The features that allow us to assign tasks and request data have improved both our timing and overall processes. Given the complexity of the reports we produce and the thorough verification steps required, the collaborative features have made a noticeable difference for every team involved.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

While Workiva excels in certain areas, it still falls short in terms of design features that are considered standard in other programs. For example, there is currently no option to create a horizontal report, which complicates the workflow. The only workaround is to break the control chain at the final step, but this can introduce its own problems. Furthermore, handling attachments in spreadsheets, linking data between reports, or establishing source links remains cumbersome and unreliable. As a result, I often find myself having to double-check and review my work, which leads to unnecessary duplication of effort.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Workiva is solving a problem of controls, data collection and reporting. As explained before, it has been tremendously helpful in that sense because there is less access and need for multiple people to add or edit data. Additionally, the ability to set tasks and send reminders is also beneficial as it reduces the time spent crafting emails and doing manual follow ups

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

I have been using Workiva for approximately four years specifically for the GRC portion, and I find it incredibly beneficial for standardizing the testing and remediation process for SOX compliance. It allows for easy handling of sub-certifications and comprehensive documentation of control and risk design. The setup process was facilitated excellently by using a third-party service called embark, making the introduction to Workiva smooth and efficient without the need for further customizations. I appreciate the standard control forms, test forms, and the streamlined workflow for PVC requests and certifications which significantly enhance our operational efficiency. Moreover, Workiva integrates seamlessly with various tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat, which I find very useful for uploading necessary artifacts. I am so satisfied with Workiva that I would certainly consider purchasing it again and have even recommended it to other vendors, who subsequently found it valuable enough to purchase themselves. Overall, I have a high regard for Workiva's capabilities, which is why I would recommend it on a scale of nine.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

I find Workiva's visualization capabilities lacking compared to specialized tools like Tableau. Management visualizations are increasingly important, and I feel Workiva could improve in this area. Additionally, while Workiva has an AI component, I believe there is room to further focus on and strengthen it to enhance its capabilities.

**What problems is Workiva solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Workiva standardizes the testing and remediation process for SOX compliance, easily handles sub-certifications, and documents controls and risks comprehensively.

**What do you like best about Workiva?**

Workiva is a great tool that allows for organization and presentation of data. That may include financial statements, sox controls, internal audit reports or carbon reporting information. As a combined package, it allows for a single vendor with savings over the licensing, training and support cost of multiple tools from different vendors. It is generally intuitive and easy to use. It also makes financial statement preparation, review and tagging much easier than competitive options

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

The tool is not really best in class in any area apart from financial statement preparation. They accomplish the requirements of each area and are worth the trade off in savings from having a single vendor but other dedicated, single purpose tools often do those individual tasks better. Their biggest strength is financial statement preparation, tagging and reporting but in their quest to extend functionality, they have fallen into the trap of buzzwords and trends (such as AI in name only) rather the focusing on building a great core. They also try to nickel and dime you over modules and extensions especially data connections/interfaces that really make your work efficient. The sales process is misleading when it comes to what the tool can do generally vs what they are providing in your quote. SLA is also disappointing in that they really don't even try to set a reasonable bar. I guess they assume that their solution will never be mission critical to a company and thus are unwilling to deliver even industry standard SAAS uptime promises.

It has financial reporting, SOX, internal audit and carbon all in a single tool.

I appreciate how Workiva makes our risk assessments and certifications significantly easier. It simplifies the process of ensuring that employees have read and understood necessary policies, which is crucial for us. The control mapping feature is incredibly beneficial and helps streamline our audit preparations. I'm impressed with Workiva's ability to enhance workflow through its document approval and risk assessment capabilities, making these processes much more efficient. The automatic workflows also stand out, as they are particularly helpful in managing and organizing tasks across our team. I really appreciate the ease of use in Workiva’s Carbon module. The platform is intuitive, making it straightforward to navigate and get work done efficiently. Even without direct API integrations, the bulk upload feature is a huge time-saver—it lets me quickly import large volumes of data with minimal hassle. I also like that after uploading, I can see the latest data in real time with just a short refresh, and having a snapshot view makes it easy to review and track progress. Overall, these features help streamline ESG data management and reporting.  At this time, I cannot yet speak to the full capabilities of Workiva’s ESG reporting, as that functionality is still under implementation.

**What do you dislike about Workiva?**

While the Workiva Carbon platform offers many strengths, there are still a number of areas for improvement. For example, reporting capabilities remain somewhat limited, as it is not currently possible to generate reports based on user-defined groups. There’s also a lack of audit reporting for scope 3 data, which makes comprehensive ESG oversight more challenging. Additionally, system reliability can be an issue—there have been instances of reporting downtime and times when the system reverts to previous versions of functionality, which disrupts workflow. Building out further features such as FERA integration, T&E CPI conversion, and direct linkage of location square footage to CBECS for building data feeds would also help address current gaps and significantly enhance the module’s overall effectiveness.

At this time, I cannot yet speak to the full capabilities of Workiva’s ESG reporting, as that functionality is still under implementation. However, it is worth noting that, compared to the carbon module, the ESG reporting process has been much slower due to its less intuitive design. The support page offers limited guidance for navigating this module, which has led to a significant reliance on our implementation partner and with the Workiva support module, there is not the ability to lean on Workiva customer support since we are still in the implementation phrase.

Workiva’s ESG carbon module alleviates the complexity of handling large volumes of data—its bulk upload feature streamlines the process, saving time and reducing manual entry errors. The platform’s intuitive interface allows efficient navigation while minimizing the learning curve and increasing productivity without extensive training.

Additionally, Workiva will help to keep our ESG data up to date, offering real-time visibility and snapshot views that simplify tracking progress and reviewing recent changes. By consolidating data management and reporting into a single system, it should reduce the need for disparate tools and manual processes, ultimately improving workflow efficiency.

However, while the platform addresses key pain points such as data import and real-time monitoring, some areas—like custom report generation, scope 3 audit reporting, and overall system reliability—still present challenges. Continued development of features and integration capabilities promises to further close these gaps, making ESG reporting more comprehensive and less burdensome for organizations.

I wish the editing features were more aligned with editing in Word.  For example, if you are uploading an existing Word Exhibit document, you need to reformat it.  The Workiva formatting panel/tools are burdensome compared to Word.  Also, the margins (1" in Word is not 1" in Workiva) are not exactly the same in Workiva leading to different page breaks which causes issues if you have a Table of Contents.

Our company has been using Workiva for quite a few years now.  As a user of both the Reporting and Section 16 Modules, I don't think there is a specific problem they are helping us to solve but the product surely improves our productivity and process.
