What I like best about WinMerge is that it provides the perfect set of features for my use case. I very often use the tool to view diffs between files of structured data such as XML or JSON, and it's moved block detection, highlighting of changes, and being able to ignore whitespace differences lets me visualize the important differences between two files. I like that it lets me do diffs on files, but also do diffs on any text I paste into the tool on the fly. One minor gripe I have with WinMerge is that its user interface could be prettier and a bit more modern, as it looks like a Windows XP era application and the toolbar icons are a bit dated. I use winmerge a lot for reviewing the code changes in the large files. Winmerge has a support for upto 3 concurrent window viewing at the same time. We can also use different format of input files to view, modify the code. It is really useful for those who primarily works on the large text files to track the changes. I liked the fact that it was free, as I had recently switched roles and was unable to use my comparison software I was used to. This product filled the need I had (to compare large files) perfectly fine. Although it was not as polished as other tools, it got the job done and displayed the results in an easy to read fashion. We are using winmerge for code comparison to ensure it contains only the required code for particular change requests and Jira stories. It supports folder comparison, a very time-saving feature provided by winmerge; it will simultaneously compare all changed files. Best thing is it is open source.
