## Azure Virtual Desktop Reviews
  ### 1. Effortless Management and Cost Savings with Azure Virtual Desktop

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leo S. | Technical Lead, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

We move from RDS to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). It makes the management of users and session hosts much easier. We love the auto-scale feature. It saves our cost. We don't need to worry about the previous RDS connection broker. We don't need to host any on-prem servers and patching them regularly. It's easy for users to use. They use the same remote desktop app to connect.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

Nothing dislike so far. Everything is working as expected.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We faced a lot of issues from the previous RDS environment. Something takes time to fix. Some issues were unable to be fixed. After moving to AVD, those issues don't exisit. Also instead of using VPN to connect to on-prem network, users can connect to AVD from anywhere of the world.

  ### 2. Powerful Cloud Virtual Desktop Deployments

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fernando F. | CEO / Consultant, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

Azure Virtual Desktop is an easy way to deploy virtual desktop and server systems in the cloud for immediate use.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

The setup is not as straight forward as it could be and cost can get pretty expensive depending on features and processing power needed.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Azure Virtual Desktop allows us to deploy needed system resources world wide quickly and efficiently, reducing downtime and increasing end user productivity.

  ### 3. Azure Virtual Desktops

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vedavikas M. | Programmer Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 15, 2024

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

We use Azure Virtual Desktops for VDIs for employees who work remotely and who work from other vendors as contractors. Instead of providing them with a laptop, we assign VDIs for working in client environment and with client network.

It reduces cost of providing laptops, it is easy to connect and use it, it is easy to deploy a VDI in Azure environment it only takes like 10 minutes, less cost in azure for deployment, we can auto schedule the power off at a time even if user left the VDI turned on or forgot to shut it down it will reduce the cost as it is a pay as you go service.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

I think taking a premium disk and premium hardware is necessary. As many users are allocated to the workstations it might get slow sometimes. It is not as good as using a laptop as we are working on it via RDP or any other software we can feel the lag of response via internet which will take away the feel of using normal laptop or PC and we might feel it slow.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reducing the cost of buying a laptop or PC for every employee, using other softwares to connect to client network and saving the courier cost of sending it to the employees.

Easy setup and employee can recieve it after few minutes of creation and it takes less time and can be automated when the ID is created and VDI request is raised which will reduce a lot of manpower.

In one word, it is saving tons of money on buying hardware, software, shipping etc.

  ### 4. Great solution for remote login

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consulting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 07, 2024

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

Performance wise, Azure Remote Desktop delivers well. It has minimal latency and smooth experience. As a onsultant it allows me to access client network as if I'm using a client system/laptop. The user interface is straightforward, making it easy to navigate, and the scalability ensures I can handle any workload, big or small. With our previous vendor sessions used to hang or lag, but with Azure it's a smooth connection without any disruptions. I use it daily and it's integrated well with other microsoft services such as active directory- so the security is also easy to manage.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

The app is really good, but sometimes when you're accessing it via browser it's really hard to toggle between apps as ctrl+tab doesn't work. So i prefer the app.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In my line of work, we often have to login into client systems safely and remotely. Azure Remote Desktop allows us to access remote client systems with ease. Its Security is paramount, and Azure's robust features, like multi-factor authentication and encryption, give me peace of mind when handling sensitive client data.

  ### 5. AVD-DaaS Offering from Microsoft

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Phani Venkata Sai B. | Architectural Staff, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2022

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

WVD, now called Azure Virtual Desktop, is a Desktop-as-a-Service offering from Microsoft that is known for its simplistic, scalable, resilient, highly available and flexible desktop and application virtualisation platform, which caters to various organisational needs- be it personal VDIs for developers/designers, non-persistent VDIs for task workers, help desk users and remote apps for contractors.
AVD Workloads can easily be integrated with Azure monitor and log analytics workspace for monitoring and reporting purposes.
On the deployment front, AVD infrastructure can be deployed using extensible components like Nerdio and Azure DevOps/Terraform can also be used in combination.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

AVD needs more maturity in terms of non-persistent VDI updates; now, it looks cumbersome, especially updating the session hosts for any Microsoft patches or app upgrades. The current process of deleting and recreating the session hosts when any updates/upgrades are coming in makes it difficult if we are using technologies like MSIX App attach for attaching applications to the session hosts, where computer accounts need to have access to the Azure file shares and aligning NTFS permissions makes it difficult for maintaining the infrastructure.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Setting up a DaaS solution end-to-end in a day makes it unique from other VDI/DaaS providers available in the market. Focus is more on OPEX rather than CAPEX, which helps organisations to adopt AVD; alongside this, it also helps in solving many challenges in the current world of remote working by imposing conditional access policies and restricting unauthorised usage.

  ### 6. I like it I love it

I love the accessibility of this feature. Windows has been around longer than any software program and never disappoints. I love how I can access it from wherever I am located and all devices!

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

  ### 11. 8 Desktops for 8 Companies and Going Strong! (Though you might need more RAM)

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shannon S. | Wizard, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2021

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

I work for a handful of different folks. Having the ability to organize all of their materials in one space and not have things spill over into another company is lovely. I use a virtual desktop per client/company and organize myself from there. It's like literally having a different desk for each. Highly recommend.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

I'm not sure if it is the virtual desktops or running Chrome in each, but this process chews up RAM. I've experienced the blue screen of death at least twice - on different machines - but with the same amount of virtual desktops and browser windows open.

**Recommendations to others considering Azure Virtual Desktop:**

Just do it! At least try it out if you either travel or have a LOT of different spaces that would be best served separately rather than on top of each other.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's hard to keep 32+ Chrome widows (plus 4+ tabs per window) open simultaneously and organized. Recently Chrome began offering group tabs, which is helpful, but also not as you can't quickly glimpse what the tabs are. It's easier for me to have the tabs fully open and more windows. Virtual Desktops let me organize this madness into a workable form. Plus, everything is accessible remotely to let processes run and not have to worry about them. Double win.

  ### 12. Great Platform

I cannot say I dislike any part of Windows Virtual at this time. I love puzzles that challenge my intellectual I can figure out technology with time.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NA

  ### 13. There are better virtual desktops out there

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashley M. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2020

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

I like any ability to go ahead and use a computer inside of a computer. However, the Windows Virtual Desktop is not my favorite. I found it to be much laggier than other clients. It was able to be used with other clients, like Azure and AWS, for additional functionality. Once you're in there, if you're used to using Micrsoft, you're able to use a virtual client the same way you would any other way. Also works on a Microsoft computer if that's the direction, also works on an Apple computer if that's the direction you take.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

There is certainly a lag to this client. I prefer Amazon Workspaces for the customer support and reliability. Honestly, I could not get past the lag. Unlike Amazon Workspaces, which is all encompassing, I don't like a lot of other programs like Azure that are used to run a windows virtual.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The ability to have your computer with you no matter where you are, particularly in a COVID-19 world, is an important one for the safety of many people. You can use the client on anything but an iOS or android device, so it makes being remote and traveling an easy one. Having my documents wherever I go is invaluable. It does make it difficult to take it off of that remote client onto your usual computer, but I bet there may be a way to work around that that I'm just not sure about.

  ### 14. It works, but not optimized

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeremy C. | Agent Concierge/Technology Coordinator, Real Estate, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2020

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

Windows Virtual Desktop provides an easy solution for a virtual desktop with no additional cost. This is a huge selling point.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

It is not optimized and if you do not have the mythical elusive "perfect" internet connection, on both ends, then you may have some latency issues or disconnections occasionally.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is a light and easy solution for a virtual desktop environment. I use this on a daily basis, mostly to little frustration.

  ### 15. challenging to start but impressed with it now.

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

It has multi modal information platforms that are easily incorporated into other documents. I like the ability and ease of toggling between pages quickly. We are able to keep all team members updated in real time with any new changes or updates

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

It is not as user friendly as other systems I have used in the past. It was simple to figure out but it did take a while to get the hang of it. I was not as impressed with it at first as I am now.

**Recommendations to others considering Azure Virtual Desktop:**

It is very interactive

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is easy to send information to a wide variety of users even if they are not on the same business platform. We are able to incorporate it into our daily work load and keep all team members infolved in any changes or updates right away.

Easy to use with a familiar feel. Lightweight and easy to implement. Windows Virtual Desktop is a very cost effective solutions that can help you scale your environment quickly without breaking the bank. I like the ease of setup and the customer support. You can find tons of help on the web because it is a commonly used solution. Users do not have to learn a new system, they can work how they are use too. This makes for a productive workplace.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

I have not found anything I dislike yet. The benefits and cost are just great and hard to be beat. I like to focus on the positives and when you do you will see that Windows Virtual Desktop is hard to beat.

**Recommendations to others considering Azure Virtual Desktop:**

Windows Virtual Desktop is the best solution to connecting to remote resources and setting up an environment the can expand when needed. The support is excellent and there are multiple user forums that offer even more support. It's a great community of users that support each other. Even better yet is it's a proven solution by many big companies.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving our testing needs by using Windows virtual Desktop to connect to VM machines easily. This is saving us on purchasing more machines and allowing up to backup the ones we have. ### 19. This should be your secondary workstation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

one of the fastest RDP services out there if you are looking to have another workstation. It's very easy to integrate with the .NET for CI/CD pipeline since it's already under Microsoft umbrella. If your team is developing an application on Windows system then you should consider using this. Another good thing about this is that the machine is sharable. Many people can manage, access and contribute to the machine without interrupting each other. For other service, you may need to input your windows license, but for this it's already included.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

When scaling the VM, unfortunately, we cannot shrink the machine. The only option for us is to spin up another machine and move the data there. The price is a little higher than other vendors out there but it's worth the money.

**Recommendations to others considering Azure Virtual Desktop:**

If you are looking for an alternative service, or just want to move away from Amazon for a while, this is a good option for you. Especially if your team is developing using Visual Studio, Windows Virtual Desktop makes it a lot easier to integrate with the code and deployment just within a few clicks.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Most of the team members are using MAC right now. During our development cycles, it's mandatory to test and make the software workable and available on the windows version. This methodology is applied to both web applications (for cross-browser i.e: IE, Edge) and cross Windows Versions Applications (Windows 7, Windows 10 or legacy windows XP etc).

  ### 20. Easily able to access what I need where ever I am

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

The ease in getting to my desktop, puling up the files I needed quickly.

**What do you dislike about Azure Virtual Desktop?**

Occasionally getting a secure connection was an issue, but I am not positive it had a lot to do with the Windows VD compared to my company's servers.

**Recommendations to others considering Azure Virtual Desktop:**

This is a very comprehensive product. Will allow access to files, documents, from anywhere.

**What problems is Azure Virtual Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basically when you think you don't need your work computer, and you're at home and all of a sudden you do, having quick access is a blessing.
