What do you like best about Whois API Webservice?

As not-so-technical users, raw logs intimidate us and XML and JSON files can be a little hard to read. Thankfully, Whois XML API allows us to view results for WHOIS, IP, and DNS records in .csv or even online through their web-based platform. This gives us more straightforward findings that we can use to enhance website security. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Whois API Webservice?

Due to private registrations or hidden details, some WHOIS and IP records can lack information. Because of that, we can’t really make instant decisions about certain domains and IPs (e.g., allow or blacklist them) and understand the most likely intent of users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Whois API Webservice:

We have learned how important knowing more about our website visitors and interlocutors is when it comes to securing our domain from threats and take immediate actions where required.

However, jumping to conclusions based on narrow pieces of information alone can also lead to lost opportunities. Not every WHOIS record with a private registration is automatically dangerous, for example. Nor can you block users with an IP address different than what you’d expect or have seen before.

Overall, there is a need to strike a balance when it comes to ensuring security and opening our doors to possibilities. The various sources offered by Whois XML API helped us do just that since they allow us to make sense of the broader picture and build more comprehensive profiles of our visitors and the stakeholders we interact with. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Whois API Webservice solving and how is that benefiting you?

We were looking for a simple way to find out more about our site visitors, specifically if they were potential leads or threats. We do not have a very big cybersecurity budget nor a dedicated team to take care of our defenses. So, Whois XML API’s feeds and its web application serve as a good source of information to comprehend our site traffic.

Also, using the service didn’t require too much additional technical knowledge and skills so anyone in the company can use it and do their part in keeping our site secure and threat-free. What’s more, their pay-as-you-go pricing options means we don’t have to drain our wallet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Whois API Webservice?

WHOISXML API’s WHOIS API has been a great tool that helps my company protect its digital assets. With its wide coverage of the Internet—billions of WHOIS records; thousands of TLDs, including newly created gTLDs, and millions of domains—we get fairly accurate search results when seeking out information on our own and our clients’ domains. Because its database is well-parsed and well-structured, we know we’re getting WHOIS records that are consistent in formatting and so can be easily compared with one another. It makes brand protection a breeze for us with additional useful features like Brand Monitoring as well. With it, we can easily spot possible causes for concern such as copyright violators and copycats. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Whois API Webservice?

WHOIS API search results come in 2 download formats—JSON and CSV. We made the mistake once of choosing the JSON format and it was a little tough to read since we didn’t have the proper applications. But now that we’re using the CSV files instead, we’re no longer having the same difficulty. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Whois API Webservice:

WHOIS API is a great tool for those in the brand protection business with scalable needs. That said, if you’re unsure whether the product is the right fit for you, you might want to start small and sign up for the free or one-time purchase tier—especially if you conduct queries on an irregular basis or need some time to roll out the product to a large user base. Once you have a better sense of how many credits you need monthly, you can shift to a monthly or even yearly subscription. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Whois API Webservice solving and how is that benefiting you?

We initially purchased WHOIS API for our brand protection needs. We basically monitored our clients’ domains with it, making sure their customers are landing on their websites and pages and not on ones that were piggybacking on their brands. We also use the brand monitoring functionality to stay updated on newly created domains.

More recently though, we found that the product had so many more practical uses like beefing up our cybersecurity and expanding our customer base. We use it to identify potential spammers and phishers and block their access to our sites and pages, in case our security solutions aren’t up to speed. We also use it to find out more about our customers—where they come from and so on—that way we’ll know in which areas it would be best to focus our marketing and sales efforts on. It’s also a great tool when we’re coming up with strategies and plans at the start of each year—helping us to prioritize projects and stay within budget. We’re getting more out of the product than we initially thought. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
