## About Westlaw
Thomson Reuters Westlaw is the trusted legal research platform for lawyers and legal professionals worldwide. It provides unmatched access to authoritative legal content — case law, statutes, regulations, secondary sources, briefs, trial court documents, public records, expert materials, and more — giving practitioners the confidence that what they find is complete and reliable. Westlaw Advantage elevates the research experience with Deep Research — a powerful AI tool that works the way skilled legal researchers do. It formulates and executes a multistep research plan that explores every angle of a legal question, then delivers a transparent, step-by-step report linked directly to authoritative sources. Attorneys remain in command throughout: the Enhance & Verify feature lets users refine outputs, confirm citations against Westlaw's authoritative database, and ensure every source holds up before it goes into a brief or motion. The result isn't just faster research — it's research you can stake your license on. Litigation Document Analyzer goes far beyond traditional citation checks. It scans entire documents to surface potential misrepresentations of the law — not just within quoted material — while also identifying opposing arguments and suggesting counterarguments backed by legal authority. Complex complaints are distilled into clear, actionable summaries, so attorneys can focus their energy where it matters most. Additional AI-powered tools further streamline the research process. Claims Explorer identifies the strongest claims relevant to your case. AI Jurisdictional Surveys generate comprehensive legal surveys tailored to specific jurisdictions — initiated with a targeted query and grounded in authoritative sources. Precision Research surfaces factually and legally similar cases with precision filtering, while KeyCite flags keep attorneys current on the latest legal developments. The KeyCite Cited With feature adds broader context by revealing how related cases have been cited together — a level of insight that can reshape litigation strategy. What sets Westlaw Advantage apart isn't any single feature — it's the combination of Thomson Reuters' unmatched authoritative legal content with AI tools designed specifically for the way attorneys work. Every capability, from Deep Research's multistep analysis to the Litigation Document Analyzer's document-level scrutiny, is grounded in verified, citeable sources — not the open web. Attorneys stay in control, AI handles the heavy lifting, and the work product reflects the quality and precision the profession demands. For legal professionals who can't afford to miss something, Westlaw Advantage isn't just a research tool. It's a competitive advantage.

## Westlaw Reviews
 ### 1. Westlaw Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tara N. | Caregiver

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2020

 ### 2. Westlaw delivers its core function nicely with a nice search capability

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Devin K. | Executive Secretary, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I like that Westlaw has the most intuitive search capabilities of the various legal research options I have utilized.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

I dislike that it lacks some of the secondary sources that other applications, like Alexis Advance, have. So there are pluses and minuses.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving the need to perform quick, accurate searches for legal sources both primary and secondary.

 ### 3. Expensive but useful

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I liked how extensive the library of cases and other legal research source were that they had.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

It is not cheap by any means and there are no free options that I am aware of.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

There are cheaper options available but probably not better options

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was able to quickly research and find applicable case law.

 ### 4. Reliable and Fantastic Legal Software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katelyn T. | Law Clerk, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Westlaw by Thomson Reuters will never let you down. The software has always been popular with legal professionals because it is reliable. You always feel like you get the best search results with Westlaw, and you do not have to worry that you are missing something. Additionally, they recently updated their software, and it now has a very modern look that is pleasing to the eye.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

As is the case with all legal softwares, Westlaw is pricey. Additionally, unlike LexisNexis, Westlaw does not offer any sort of rewards program for using their legal software. This is unfortunate because LexisNexis allows you to accumulate points and redeem those for gift cards or other merchandise.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

I would highly recommend Westlaw. Westlaw has always been popular in the legal community, and after using this software for almost 3 years, I can understand why. Westlaw provides quality research in no time. Their customer service is extremely helpful and readily available. Additionally, Westlaw is reliable and trustworthy. In a field where your word matters, I would want to make sure I am with the best legal research company, and Westlaw is just that!

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Westlaw for all types of legal research. I can also look up examples of legal documents that I need to draft.

 ### 5. Westlaw User Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Libraries | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I really like how easy it is to navigate cases within the search engine by searching by jurisdiction. I also find the headnotes and footnotes to be very useful. When looking at statutory law their annotated statutes often provide an excellent starting point for legal research. The Practical Law feature provides great starting points when drafting transactional documents.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

I wish Westlaw had helpful case summaries to provide a short brief of main points of a case when looking at cases in the search results. This would save time by not requiring me to actually open up the case and read it in order to understand the main conclusions of the court.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Westlaw is a major asset to any legal research institution. It is extremely well established in the legal research industry and Westlaw contains exclusive notes made by the Westlaw and Vernons teams that are extremely useful to researchers. This product is extremely lawyer friendly.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Westlaw I am able to research precedent within a certain court to find legally binding decisions and build a case for a client. It is a one-stop shop with all legislation available for citing as well. You can find all binding authorities quickly and easily.

 ### 6. Great software a must for any library subscription portfolio

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2020

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

The search feature is superb and makes finding articles easy

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

I cannot think of any dislikes at this time

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Useful tool to have in y our toolbox

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to research findings and use them to substantiate data

 ### 7. Intuitive legal research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Natural language searches similar to Google, recommended resources in the margins, ability to annotate cases, download cases to word

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

frequently have to sign back into sessions, sometimes losing the last place you were in the research trail

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Westlaw has several features that may never be necessary to use for members of bar associations. Several bar associations have free or discounted access to legal research tools that can help lawyers that never need to do heavy appellate work or work on novel cases. LexisNexis is obviously a major competitor but there are several others in the market.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Primarily use it for legal research and citation checking

 ### 8. Fantastic Legal Software!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Extremely user friendly and great customer service! I am always satisfied with the search results I am able to generate using their system. Their website is easy to use and very straightforward. Additionally, their website format is visually pleasing.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

Westlaw does not offer rewards for using their service whereas Lexis does offer such rewards. I think that if they offered this, it would incentivize people to use their software.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

I highly recommend this software for all legal professionals. It makes the legal research process seamless. I have used other providers, and Westlaw is always my go to. Their customer service is phenomenal, and they are always available. If you are looking to switch software, go with Westlaw!

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Westlaw for legal research. With Westlaw, I am able to find cases, statutes, regulations, and secondary sources to use in my legal memos, briefs, motions, etc. This services makes a time consuming process so much easier.

 ### 9. Great Tool for Legal Research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

WestLaw makes legal research so easy. Not only does it keep track of past searches and allow you to break them down by client or key word, it is just so easy to have a reliable search engine for case law that could otherwise be very difficult to find.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

I wish West Law offered more training up front. It was not until after I began using it that I was informed that there was training and presentations available to teach you the ins and outs of the program.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use westlaw for legal research. This solves the problem of having to look for relevant cases and caselaw thorough other more convoluted sources, greatly increasing the firm's efficiency.

 ### 10. Great legal research tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Very easy to find cases and statutes using Westlaw. The layout/format is intuitive and user-friendly.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

It does not search dockets (e.g., documents filed on ECF), at least the subscription we have does not do this.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to search for cases and statutes, as well as to Shepardize (i.e., KeyCite) cases to see if they are still valid precedent.

 ### 11. Easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 19, 2017

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I like the ability narrow searches greatly and create folders. Case snapshots are helpful

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

I think there should be a search option that allows you to exclude terms

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

As I said I would like the option to exclude documents with certain terms if I know I am going to be getting alot of irrelevant material along with relevant material based on search term

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Legal research by jurisdiction

 ### 12. Best research tool on the market for students and paralegals

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taylor P. | Legal Assistant, Law Practice, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

It has an enhanced KeyCite citator that provides warnings that cases may no longer be good law in circumstances that traditional citators could not identify. It has an AI-driven legal research tool that guides lawyers quickly to answers to specific legal questions and integrated litigation analytics, providing detailed docket analytics covering judges, courts, attorneys and law firms, for both federal and state courts. Statutes Compare is a tool that allows researchers to compare changes to statutes.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

With nearly every search, large numbers of items are listed that are "out of your plan." Sometimes, there are more out of plan documents than in-plan documents. The clear intent is to get you to mortgage your house so you can access the document that one time, or add to your ongoing monthly debt load by adding this set of documents to your plan. This "upsell" effort is transparent and gets old. I wish Westlaw had an option in its settings or somewhere that you could elect to display only responsive documents that are in your plan. That would be a decent thing to do.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

At a time when any number of companies are offering legal research and intelligence tools using AI and analytics, Westlaw appears to have the edge, offering features such as quick answers to legal questions, sophisticated analytics across all federal and state courts, better warnings about potentially bad case law, and more.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You can drill down through the visualizations to get to the underlying documents. You can apply searches and filters to see how a judges handles a certain type of motion in a certain type of case, and then see the actual ruling. In addition, related litigation documents are also available, such as the parties’ briefs and motions. This was not something we could thoroughly do before WestLaw

 ### 13. Expensive but handy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taylor P. | Legal Assistant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I like the KeyCite Overruling Risk that comes with your Edge subscription and expands KeyCite by flagging a case if it relies on bad or overruled law. This is particularly helpful when you are in a hurry and don't have time to track down cases that have overturned it, it directs you right to it. I also like that there is a mobile app that I can use straight from my phone and it functions just as well as the normal site. The software features a comprehensive secondary sources database that lets you bookmark favorite publications and browse through publications in a streamlined user interface and Litigation Analytics lets you view insights from judges, courts, attorneys, and law firms to help guide your legal strategy.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

Westlaw seems better-suited for larger law firms or attorneys who need more comprehensive databases with access to secondary sources. Even that recommendation, of course, is based on the assumption that those larger firms and lawyers have a sizeable legal research budget. You will pay handsomely for Westlaw’s luxuries. You can speak with a representative, however, they can be pushy and will definitely put you on a series of marketing lists.
if one tries to find a source or a database, the results appear as “autopopulation.” I never thought of autopopulation as a “result,” but as merely something that tries to help the user get what he or she wants more quickly. Nothing in the training or documentation indicates this fact.
Another HUGE problem is that the natural language search in Westlaw Classic can quickly and easily find things that the new WLN search algorithm may never find. This means that the user is unlikely to find something in a footnote that may be exactly what one is looking for. (WLC natural language will put this at the top of the search results; WLN may NEVER have it show up as a result.)
WLN is the classic case of the programmers fixing something that was not broken. They Amazoned the search results–giving you all sorts of junk you don’t need to see. They Googled the search results–basing the results on the number of times someone else has tried to find something. But worst of all, they Microsofted the search results. They don’t let the user search the way he or she wants to; instead the user is FORCED to conduct the search the way that Westlaw Next allows you to do so. (This is exactly they way in which most Microsoft programs work; you are forced to do it the Microsoft way, not how you may want to do it.)
WLN will improve the research of lawyers who graduated from the blink monkey school of legal research. (Even a blind monkey can find a peanut every once in a while.)
For people who know what they are doing when they do legal research, WLN basically gets in the way rather than speeding up things.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

I would recommend really delving into the information during a trial period before you commit to the purchase. I know that I use it in the particular field that I am in now but in other areas I have been in before would have never used it.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Westlaw for briefs almost daily whether it is at work or at school.

 ### 14. westlaw

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Omar M. | Legal Intern, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I like that while I am searching for cases it will offer suggestions as to a better way to research.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

the filter search bar will sometimes not know what words are more important than others.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

It is optimal when using it to research cases.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving the problem of finding appropriate case law and applicable statutes as to cases I am handling.

 ### 15. Daily Necessity

**Reviewed by:** Maribel S. | Paralegal, Legal Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

 ### 16. Easy to use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laura G. | The McIntosh Law Firm, Law Practice, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

The search features on Westlaw are easy to understand and results are displayed clearly. It is easy to filter results within a search for a more refined subject group. I also appreciate the tools Westlaw has for use, including Peoplefinder.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

Search optimization terms are sometimes confusing. Otherwise, it is easy to understand the results of a search and filter content within a search.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

I would recommend Westlaw over other competitors; I've tried them and like Westlaw much more.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Westlaw to conduct legal research and stay abreast of current legal developments. Westlaw makes it easy to find cases and statutes that I need, and to connect those sources to other secondary sources for potential relations.

 ### 17. Best tool for new law students.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Libraries | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Ability to quickly search millions of records and sort through them efficiently.

Sometimes it’s a little slow and sometimes it can crash and cause you to lose your work

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Try it

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving research problems.

It is very nice to have a multitude of cases at the top of your finger.

 ### 19. Great platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

It is easy to navigate and has a wealth of information available.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

There isn’t a way to earn rewards currently for research like LexisNexis has.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Make sure you keep all your filters clear

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am learning how to research and find sources online in the database. It makes it easy to filter through relevant cases.

 ### 20. Number One Best Legal Research Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

The simplicity of this software. The homepage is easily understandable.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

The expense of this software. If in a firm, this is not of primary concern, but in private practice, the cost is a tad high.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Legal case research, international and national laws, and legislative analytics.

 ### 21. Use it for law school

I love the easy access and you can find any research or cases. It is wonderful! Great search engine for law students.

Consider westlaw programmes over other databases as they are consistently kept up to date and always evolving

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This website has allowed me to access updated nd accurate legislation which is not possible on legislation.gov

 ### 23. Best legal research platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Westlaw provides easy and intuitive access to secondary sources, case law, and templates

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

While there is a bit of a learning curve, they provide great training guides and resources

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Researching complex legal issues, shephardizing case law, and templates

 ### 24. Go-To Tool for Legal Research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Westlaw's legal research system is the perfect balance of structured and intuitive. I can switch between boolean search structures and natural language, can cast a wide net or drill down to something very specific. I like that Westlaw provides suggestions to direct your research; sometimes those tips have led to helpful new information!

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

Sometimes items Westlaw suggests are outside of the plan we've purchased, and it's frustrating to be unable to access the documents to see if they truly are helpful.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Westlaw does what it needs to do; it provides efficient access to legal precedent and other legal information. Because of the many ways you can sort and interpret research results in the Westlaw system, you can confidently use the platform to expand your knowledge in a particular area.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Westlaw is our starting point for legal research. The legal department uses it as a basis for providing legal advice.

 ### 25. Greatest legal research platform available

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

It has a simple interface and returns great results based on search terms.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

Could have simpler “advanced search terms” (I’m aware that’s oxymoronic). For example, could have better defined connecting and Boolean terms.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

If you have the funds to afford it, this is the best legal research platform

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All of my day is spent on westlaw researching questions. The keynotes and key numbers makes things much more efficient.

 ### 26. Westlaw user, Lexis preferred

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Government Administration | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I like the KeyCite system best, allowing the user to view topics in a hierarchy. I also like that it is possible to receive news and legal publications via Reuter's.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

I dislike the layout of the information. It is more complex to connect cases without a tool like Shepard's to distinguish later court rulings involving the case. Lexis does a better job of tying information together and I feel that it is easier to use search terms in order to find answers. Tools such as Ravel view allows an easy comparison between jurisdictions at all levels (state and Federal).

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Westlaw should develop a rewards system similar to Lexis in order to incentivize new users.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Westlaw is used to facilitate legal research in our office. As a governmental office, we have a contract with Westlaw and do not have the choice between legal research providers. While I am required to use it in the office, I find myself consistently returning to my student subscription with Lexis because it is easier to use and I find results much faster than I do with Westlaw.

 ### 27. Excellent Layout; Key Number System is Great

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I really like the "History" feature when viewing cases. Visualizations are particularly helpful to me, and I like how the case history is laid on under this tab.

Secondly, I really appreciate how the index of each material is listed. This makes seeing "the big picture" really easy when navigating encyclopedias, treatises, and other secondary materials.

Thirdly, Westlaw's infamous Key Number System is absolutely incredible. Westlaw tags each case with different key numbers which can then be used to find specific topics. I love using Westlaw for this reason. The Key System makes it so much easier to hone in your search and quickly find relevant material.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

Functionally, there's really nothing I would change about Westlaw. However, to be quite frank, my colleagues and I often use Lexis because of the rewards programs they offer. I think Westlaw would benefit from starting some sort of rewards program to encourage users to utilize their services.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

You really can't go wrong be choosing Westlaw. It's Key Number System truly is one of a kind, and it will be well worth the investment.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Westlaw is an incredible tool for conducting legal research on any topic within United States law. It is far superior to Google Scholar because of how specific the searches can be. My colleagues and I have saved so much time by using Westlaw instead of generic search engines.

 ### 28. Westlaw

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Westlaw is a legal research platform with thousands of case reviews and judgments and academic commentaries and books available for those researching the law for a case to rely upon. What I like best about the platform is its vast array of materials accessible to all. This really makes the job much easier.

I also really like the search engine tools, if used properly, they can lead to very specific results, which is best. Users are able to search for specific types of laws and practice areas related to what they seek, and they are even able to research for specific legal issues and specific terminology within judgments.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

Although its vast array of material is great, it can also be seen as the opposite simply due to the shear volume of content on the platform. This makes specific researching a more difficult task as the search engine ends up providing users often with hundreds of irrelevant materials.

Its research tool does need improvement. Westlaw often provides users with irrelevant material which they have to sift and sort through to find what they are looking for. Fixing this issue would help westlaw a lot.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

It is a great legal research engine, probably the best, use it. Doing so will make you work more efficient and effective and it will make you task of searching for relevant legal provisions hundrends of hours shorter.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The use of westlaw is to advise clients and draft thesis. I personally have used it in work, and in school. I have used it to write case summaries for my colleagues to rely on in practice, and I have used it to research legal issues and judgments which I then rely on to advise my clients, and I have used it to research academic and practical arguments about legal issues which I then cite in my thesis'.

I this Westlaw is the best option for legal research because it has the most updated information and advanced search options to narrow down exactly what you need

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

I think sometimes if you don’t know exactly what to look for, it has so many different options (as far as categories, groups, etc) that it can be a tad overwhelming.

Take advantage of the advanced search options

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristy G. | Paralegal, Law Practice, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

You can connect your current calendaring system with West's so that all of your calendaring is done in one place. West calendar will suggest deadline to you based on the court circuit you are working in for any specific case.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

It took me a few days to integrate and get used to a new calendaring system but the payoff is worth it!

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to rely on Wests system to help me make sure I am meeting deadlines.

 ### 34. Nothing better than Lexis

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

 ### 35. Great Product - Bad Pricing

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

WestLaw is hands down, for me, the best for legal research. I can run the same search on Lexis and get less results.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

Westlaw needs to adapt to the market. Ten years ago, there weren't other startups undercutting them. Now there are and it is only a matter of time before someone does it as good as Westlaw for better prices. I hate how the contract increases every year, the outrageous secrecy on pricing, and the contract terms. WestLaw needs to come into 2019.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Negotiate that ridiculous pricing down.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Effective research for clients

 ### 36. Calendaring

**Reviewed by:** Laura L. | Investigative Analyst, Financial Litigation, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

 ### 37. Useful platform for legal research

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Estefano M. | Student, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

The key system is great for tracking down relevant statutes, citations, etc. Broad applications, up-to-date insights beyond legal research.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

Search process can be daunting at times, especially when searching for a commonly used word or phrase. Mobile application can be very slow and difficult to navigate.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

The practical law section is great to learn more about legal research - quick and easy-to-read tips.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Expedites the legal research process.

 ### 38. Established, sterling reputation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Westlaw is reputable. It is taken seriously in the industry. Great search functionality, confidence in results. Ease of use in organizing and saving items.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

It frequently times-out and logs the user out. This makes long-term, on-going searching a nightmare.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Used for class and in a legal aid clinic which takes civil and criminal cases for low-income clients.

 ### 39. Calendaring system that makes it easy to keep in contact

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

Keeps everyone on the same page about the meetings and upcoming events

 ### 40. Westlaw--helpful, but not modernized

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I like that it is easy to maneuver. Searching cases is simple and advanced searches are clear.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

It is simply just not modern enough. It is not visually appealing. It does not offer points to redeem like competitors. Even its color platform is just not exciting. Competitors definitely have an edge on Westlaw.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Consider recommending to organizations that partner with Westlaw to consider suggesting Rewards. Competitors like Lexisnexis will definitely overtake Westlaw.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Westlaw helps with legal research. The only distinguishable benefits are the ability to place Westlaw cases and holdings into PDF form.

 ### 41. Review for Westlaw database

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

A wide variety of limiters to help narrow down your search, to make your results more specific.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

A knowledge of legal jargon and case law is often valuable when searching for specific results.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

As there are many options when searching, be as specific as possible in limiting your search results.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Westlaw is useful when searching for possible legal issues related to research being conducted at our facility.

Westlaw provides comprehensive legal research from cases and laws to briefings and articles.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

The search function isn't the easiest to use. It's a bit cumbersome.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows me to do my job efficiently and effectively.

 ### 43. Best in the market!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

The best out there. Though our firm still prefers Clio over Westlaw, given its new developments it has turned into a great asset for the firm.
Love their interface, calender layout, general ease of adding or taking out meetings and conferences, and adding up billing.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

It is not Clio. So, naturally a lot of billings we are able to do on Clio makes usage of Westlaw calendering less.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Great way to start! Covers a lot of aspects that are not their with other legal calendering apps.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scheduling, billing information, reminders and other functions.

 ### 44. Excellent for Legal Practitioners on a Tight Schedule

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

When you don't have time to keep up with current events on specific law changes, Westlaw will send you a reminder.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

The platform for Westlaw is rather outdated. It is not visually appealing and rather hard to maneuver.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You are given litigation rules are available for hundreds of jurisdictions, intellectual property rules, and calendar entries. You are simply keeping up to date and accessing resources for legal practicing.

 ### 45. Thank goodness it's free at the law library

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Westlaw now makes it so easy to conduct a search. Gone are the days when you had to know Boolean terminology. You can literally type anything into the search area and Westlaw knows what you're looking for. The algorithms really are that good.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

It's cost-prohibitive for solo practitioners like me. I am fortunate to be able to use it for free at my local law library.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You really can't do legal research without Westlaw or Lexis, but I was taught using Westlaw and have stuck with it ever since. There are now other products available, like Casemaker, which my bar association offers for free, but it absolutely does not compare to Westlaw.

 ### 46. Great User Friendly Service

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I like the ability to read the key headings at the top, click on one, then easily be redirected to where that topic is discussed within a document.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

I feel that the product is a bit expensive.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We do all of our law firm's legal research on westlaw.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 29, 2019

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

Good calendar tool, especially compared to Outlook or Google Calendar. Can set up reminders and schedule all types of events

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

User interface could be more intuitive and simple

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Makes it easier to manage scheduling and time management

 ### 48. Very intuitive to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 06, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I like the fact that it is just like using google, very easy to understand, and if you need help you get an attorney to help you 24/7. I also really like the overall layout of Westlaw much better than other legal research engines.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

I wish the "forms" section of Westlaw was more outdated with sample templates of current pleadings - organized by different legal professions.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Very easy to use - makes learning the law enjoyable.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Most of my research for work comes from Westlaw. Thanks to Westlaw it is so easy to learn the law!

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Legal and compliance searches

 ### 50. Necessary

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Law Practice | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Westlaw?**

I like the Drafting Assistant tool that comes with Westlaw.

**What do you dislike about Westlaw?**

I dislike that when I type in search terms for types of cases that I am looking for, what I type in is never actually in the search results. I also dislike that when I type in the case name, I can only look at the "dropdown" search results. If i actually click "search," the results are not even remotely similar to the case name I typed in.

**Recommendations to others considering Westlaw:**

Westlaw can be a bit difficult to navigate, but it has the important tools necessary for legal work.

**What problems is Westlaw solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Drafting Assistant tool saves an immense amount of time when creating the Table of Authorities and also helps to double check if cites are incorrect.
