What do you like best about Webswing Software?

The ability to use older applications that are still functional in today's browser-based environment is very useful and saves a lot of time due to the simplification of software distribution and updating. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Webswing Software?

The only weakness we have identified so far is when the desktop app has functionnalities like "opening a web browser to display a specific webpage". It needs a rewriting of the code as the app is not running anymore "within the use desktop environment". Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Webswing Software solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are maintaining a 2011 java app connected to a MySQL database running on a server, but more and more issues are arising with the passing years: installation of the software can be complicated for more and more cases (no access to some protected directories, multiple Java versions installed, security checks of modern OSes, etc), database connections (e.g. some people are connected to WIFI networks that don’t have access to university servers) and regular updates that users have to download and install (today people are more used to web apps that are “silently” updated). Having a web-based solution would have solved all those issues, but the development cost of reimplementing the whole system is far too great for us. In our search for a better solution, we stumbled across Webswing (webswing.org) and to our great surprise, it only took a few hours to get the client-side running as a web-delivered application. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Webswing Software?

Webswing is an easy and fast way to deploy java swing applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Webswing Software?

We currently have not identified any weaknesses compared to deploying the full client. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Webswing Software solving and how is that benefiting you?

We were in a situation where we had found a product suite we liked.

However, one of the applications within the product suite was a Java swing application.

Deploying the Java swing application was considered a time-consuming and complex task.

Therefore we looked for alternatives way to distribute the Java swing application,

and this is where we found the Webswing Software that simplifies the deployment process for us tremendously.

We can warmly recommend others in similar situations to consider using Webswing Software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Webswing Software?

We are very pleasantly surprised at how simple and effective it is to use Webswing technology in a web environment. The application works without problems. There is an immediate response to all events triggered by user interaction. From the perspective of the user's comfort of work, there is no difference whether he works on an application launched as standard in the operating system or in a web browser. What's more, it works for tablet, chromebook or smart tv as well as iOS/Safari. Webswing detects the type of device and allows you to operate the operating mode (touch or pointer) in the interface according to the user's preferences. This is very useful when the application requires precise indication of a component that is closely adjacent to others.

Together with the Webswing system, the way of software distribution changes. Updates can be applied in one place. There is no need to check and adjust the runtime environment on the workstation. It is enough to properly prepare the environment on the server. We also get an extensive ability to manage access to the application by individual users. We can specify which applications the user has access to, how many simultaneous sessions he can run, whether sessions can be monitored and logged, the length of time of inactivity after which he is logged out. The logs also record various parameters of the user's session, such as start and end times, and the IP address from which the connection was made. It is possible to view the resources used by the application, e.g. the amount of memory, CPU load, network bandwidth, transmission delays.

In conclusion, the ability to use older applications that are still functional in today's browser-based environment is very useful and saves a lot of time due to the simplification of software distribution and updating. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Webswing Software?

Not many disadvantages we found during using this software. In future releases we would like to get more integrations with directory service like LDAP to manage users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Webswing Software solving and how is that benefiting you?

Thanks to Webswing we eliminate manage software updates on users workstations. This give us ability to save time to deploy our software to the clients. We can use saved time to get more producivity on our software development. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Webswing Software?

Weswing made it straightforward to get a really old Java/Swing application up and running in any browser. This works much better than it ever did in its original incarnation as a Java Applet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Webswing Software?

The shift from open source to commercial app was a bit of a surprise. Fortunately they have excellent solutions for small non-profits like our group. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Webswing Software solving and how is that benefiting you?

We had an old but still very usefull application written in Java and Swing. Unfortunately this is more or less impossible to deploy in 2023. Webswing solved this perfectly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
