## About VMware vSphere
VMware vSphere with VCF 9.1 is the enterprise workload engine that modernizes compute infrastructure with a future-ready, scalable infrastructure and simplified management that enables organizations to extract maximum value from their current server investments and hardware footprint, rather than requiring a total refresh. vSphere provides a powerful foundation for modern, AI and traditional workloads, while enabling intrinsic security out-of-the-box.

## VMware vSphere Reviews
  ### 1. Accessible and Supported

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian R. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2024

**What do you like best about VMware vSphere?**

I find it extremely accessible, specifically in the learning and support. The ease of access to upgrades and knowledge base helps extensively for new, intermediate and advanced users.

**What do you dislike about VMware vSphere?**

I feel like the network knowledge base could use some help with some more ease of access from the vSphere home. I remember having to go looking for it and resigned myself to accessing the ESXi host UI in order to manage my virtual switches and port groups.

**What problems is VMware vSphere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

vSphere houses all of our virtual machines and DRS also allows to easily provide redundancy for our hosts/VMs.

  ### 2. Establishing the Criteria

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian H. | Service Owner / Senior Administrator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2024

**What do you like best about VMware vSphere?**

Universability - All integrated into one single UI
Modern UI

**What do you dislike about VMware vSphere?**

Certificate Management - Often complexities or issues arise from third-party certificate creations
Permission control - Too complex / More permission groups causing issues
Refresh Issues of running / completed tasks in daily usage

**What problems is VMware vSphere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Centralized management of all virtual machines
Adopt different VDI infrastructures into one VDI
Build the basis for internal cost reports

**What do you like best about VMware vSphere?**

The best part is we can go through so much knowledge base globally through various support groups, forums, articles, web-sites to get help in case of any issue.

Good solid foundation of virtualization infra and keep on improving themself.

**What do you dislike about VMware vSphere?**

Cost of ownership is very much now a days.

Customer support needs to be more agile and flexible.

**What problems is VMware vSphere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating a virtual infra to build to serve the Prod, Dev, QA VM.

  ### 4. Virtualized Server Infrastructure

**What do you dislike about VMware vSphere?**

I miss the old perpetual license model, but that was bound to go away eventually.

**What problems is VMware vSphere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The cost of running multiple physical servers, from both a physical hardware requirement, and power usage standpoint, VMware virtualization is saving my customer money, while also making it easier and more secure to maintain.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civic & Social Organization | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2024

**What do you like best about VMware vSphere?**

As each version of vSphere has progressed, the product has just gone from strength-to-strength. Best features:
- VM vMotion
- Storage vMotion
- DRS
- vSphere upgrades are simple
- Cross vCenter vMotion is great addition in later releases

**What do you dislike about VMware vSphere?**

Licensing costs have risen since Broadcomm have taken over, we've had to drop the enterprise editions in favour of standard to keep it within budget.

**What problems is VMware vSphere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping us to manage some legacy SQL cluster instances on-premise, along with some VMs. Snapshots give us reassurance should anything go wrong with patching and upgrades.

  ### 7. Are you planning on using multiple nodes?

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Military | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2024

**What do you like best about VMware vSphere?**

Unless you're completely new to ESX or VMWare, you probably already understand or know what vSphere is; however, it's ok if that's not the case. If you are familiar with Bare Metal hypervisors then you're probably running ESX on any one, or more, drives on multiple devices to provide services to whatever organization you're in. In some cases, one "node" is all you need (situation dependant) but if you're doing anything that includes multiple nodes and clustering, then vSphere is a must. There are limited other products an competetors, but most everything is based off this sophtware; in fact, in cases where you may have as few as 4 hosts in a particular cluster, and you're not running a virtual distributed switch, it's necessary to be running vSphere if you're trying to cluster those hosts together and run your vSAN service.

The biggest takeaway, if that once you get things up and going, so long as you don't have to break down your setup and move (which, I hope is the general case, Data Centers are not designed, organically, to move locations on the cyclic rate, though, we in the Military do it often), you should never need to go back into the ESX on any individual Host, once you've pulled those hosts into your cluster - everything can be ran, and probably should be ran, from the vSphere. It is a robust piece of gear.

**What do you dislike about VMware vSphere?**

I know VMWare has recently come out with different products that can assist with fault tolerance and rebuilding of clusters, should you have a catestrophic failure; however, one of the drawbacks to vSphere is that if you're in an environment where you have to pick up and go - break down your physical equipment and move to a different location - things can go extremely wrong when powering your hosts back up.

It so happens that I work in an industry that has multiple 3 to 4 node clusters, or, in some cases, a 2 node cluster with a witness.

It's for this, that I would recommend not utilizing s vDS, as well. If you don't fire up those things at the right time/in the right order, you can break your vSAN and have to rebuild your vSphere, claim those disks and rebuild your vSphere. Don't start getting high and mighty on all the services it runs that should prevent this, it happens.

In regards to this, a lot of time, if you have thorogh knowledge os esxcli, you can repair a lot of things.. however, if you don't, you're going to have to rebuild and hopfully save all your data.. More I could say about this, but I'll leave it there for now.

**What problems is VMware vSphere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I mean.. what else are you going to use to take multiple disks across multiple hosts and make your virtual SAN out then all, clustering together all those resources? You're just not. If you're only using one host, then sure, vSphere probably isn't the best solution, even if your drive is a peda in size; why would you?

  ### 8. Nothing, and everything, changes in VMware vSphere

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2024

**What do you like best about VMware vSphere?**

The best thing about VMwarevSphere is simply that evn though new releases deliver new support and capabilities, the underlying product has not changed substantially over the years and those releases.
This ensures that significant retraining on the GUI and functionality doesn't need to happen constantly, your skills are maintained and incrementally improved, and confidence in the application is maintained.
Installation, upgrades, operations and maintenance are all improved and and familiar in their execution, and the actual capabilities of the product itself, along with the innovation happening (AVS for example) are unparalleled.

**What do you dislike about VMware vSphere?**

Licensing is an issue and we are seeing that with clients. Along with the free version being removed which allowed a test environment to be maintained.

**What problems is VMware vSphere solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Consolidation as well as migration to cloud through the use of Azure VMware SOlution
