Top Rated Vista Alternatives
I love that Vista encompasses all aspects of accounting into one system forcing AP, AR, Purchasing, Payroll, Service, Tool Tracking and more to all sync. I have seen both sides where one company changed Vista very little out of the box and used Vista to enforce standard processes and work flows that could be incorporated with ISO and LEAN very easily. Another company customized everything. They added all sorts of new fields, tabs, reports and more. Since all of the data is in one place you can virtually create any report needed. If the data is there you can report on it. It is detail oriented but you can do as much with it as you are willing to put into it. It also has great security if needed. You can lock one role from updating or even seeing other roles as needed. And you can limit what jobs or details you want a specific user to get access to. You can even turn on auditing and tell who did what as needed to look back and see who changed that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The more you want the software to do the more detail oriented it becomes. It becomes a training issue that you have to teach your people to enter things correctly if the process is to flow smoothly. Vista is adding new features all the time but it still is a bit bulky. It is become more user friendly but it can still be a bit hard for new users to pick up. Overall, solid product offering. Support is usually quick and open SQL DB makes customization or self-patching possible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
But, silly expensive and the ROI is not there. There are equivalent products for a fraction of the price. Discontinuation of concurrent licensing and on-premise support was the last straw. The price gouging of on-premise installations to force cloud adoption is a brutally unfair practice. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The system's layout is easy to use, and I feel the screens make sense that are in the different categories. You can also customize a tab with folders for the screens that you use the most frequently or create folders with screens that you only use for a certain task once a year. Everyone in the same company can make it their own. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are a lot of updates to do every year. A change was done recently that when you are in the AP Unapproved Invoice Items screen, if you enter an invoice that is over the purchase order amount or subcontract amount, the system will only change the status to **Ready** versus before it would give you a hard stop until it was fixed. Now it will take the invoice, allow it to be approved by the PM and then is not stopped until someone tries to post the invoice. It is a waste of everyone's time and still needs to be corrected. I would prefer the hard stop to come back, so you can correct this right away. Secondly, when the top half doesn't match the bottom half, it doesn't do a hard stop either. Vista has a great module based setup giving you an easy display of programs and reports. The modules cover many if not all areas construction companies would need. They consistantly are updating the software to mold the software to how users are utilizing it. They have webinars consistantly and are always keeping users informed. The core modules are very easy to utilize efficiently and effectively from the get go. Almost every part of my job is within Viewpoint. It's a complete Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It takes a lot of setup to get started (It's an ERP so I expected that). I'd recommend getting a consultant to assist. A few modules are out dated as a majority of the customer base do not utilize them (but they do still function quite well for being outdated). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Viewpoint is pretty much an all inclusive product. Once they bought Keystyle, that brought in a lot of the missing pieces. It's also extremely customizable. They're also in the process of rewriting Vista into a web version. I'd expect this to take 2-3 years to fully flesh out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We've had to write a few things to help the payroll department process payroll that were in our old software by default. Their reports also leave a lot to be desired, so we use Excel for most of that instead. Viewpoint is also extremely slow to implement valid customer suggestions. Vista has the flexability to do almost anything I need. Once you are familiar with the different modules, you can create custom reports for almost any need. Visa has so many features that it can seem overwhelming at first, but once you see the basic steps and how they are repeated in different modules it becomes much easier to use. Updates often cause disruption while the kinks are worked out, but the Vista team works hard to find work-a-rounds to help while issues are resolved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Vista has made our company thrive by allowing easy multi-department communication throughout our entire company. We are able to utilize reports and project information that has been input into the Vista system in which allows us to "Stay in Tune" with how each office/location is doing. Vista makes it easy to create your own reports with specific information to properly diagnose any issues; along with propoviding data on what is helping with our success. Our current use of Vista is utilized throught our entire company; therefore there are reports and data entered and revised by multiple people in multiple locations. This causes some issues to arise as the reports built for one busisness level don't always provide the informtion needed for another business level. This causes multiple reports with the same information to be made or reports to be over written". Having too many reports makes things "messy" and time consuming. Viewpoint lets you customize how it works but still is a working ERP out of the box. They also have excellent customer support via their clear view portal. I use the chat function and knowledge base articles whenever I have a question. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Releases seem to be rushed sometimes and can have bugs. I would recommend setting up a sandbox test environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Overall, the capabilities of Vista are very strong. It can handle just about everything you can throw at it. We've been able to add many customizations along the way to make it even more useful to our organization. They're also building out the software's web-based version, which adds flexibility and functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Customer support could use some improvement. They've also recently moved most of the payroll reporting to Aatrix, which used to be handled in-house. This adds additional expense and lessens the value of the package overall. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Vista payroll is highly adaptable and an excellent choice for construction payroll. We are able to job cost, manage equipment and update project projections right from payroll. This ensures the largest cost in any project, labor, is acurately reflected for all that need to mange. Vista payroll also integrates easily with most time capture software. Vista payroll reporting is limited. Many of our reports rely on customizations and/or database query. The Vista consultants are very helpful in creating the customizations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It works well with the GCPay program we are currently using for our construction needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are a few needs that we would like to have without paying more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
