What do you like best about VidGrid?

VidGrid has a lot of basic tools that allow for quick and easy screen captures. VidGrid can also be integrated into multiple LMS and allow graded quizzes created on the videos. Adding closed captions (at a reasonable price) is very quick and easy to do as well. The Guest Recorder feature allows instructors to let students use VidGrid within the instructors account, which can keep all video recordings for a class organized and managed easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

There isn't multiple bitrate for video playback, but I'm pretty sure VidGrid is planning to add this in future versions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering VidGrid:

If you are looking for a video solution for hosting and creating screen captures (or uploading other video content directly) at least get a trial of VidGrid to see if VidGrid can work for you. I've been very pleased with the support (very quick responses) and I believe that VidGrid is going in a very good direction as they continue to add features and tools to their software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

Allowing our instructors to create screen captures, make minor edits, add captions and easily embed the video into our LMS without the help of any of our support people. Instructors can quickly add and create videos 24/7. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about VidGrid?

Simple tool for video capture and hosting, with some 'bare bones' editing capabilities. Easy to use, but... (see below) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

The university where I work recently launched an inquiry to replace VidGrid. I have attended presentations by two different vendors, and found both their proposals to be far superior to what VidGrid offers.

Both of the products/services offered include advanced video editing tools, automatic captioning with the possibility to edit them manually, advanced hosting services, in-video quizzes and other interactice tools, close integration with LMS, etc.

In view of these alternatives, I find it difficult to justify the use of VidGrid, unless it was offered for free (as there are similar online services that can be used free of charge). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering VidGrid:

Practice recording a few times, and keep videos relatively short. There's nothing as frustrating as finding a problem after a one hour lecture, and then having to start from scratch...

(Update: other vendors provide good tools to edit videos, which makes this particular headache a non-issue). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

Whether teaching online or blended courses, I can use VidGrid to rapidly prepare new content to update or enhance the support I give students. Specifically, I don't much update lectures, but I do new solved problems, technical guides, and sometimes even Zoom meetings that I upload as virtual "office hours" to answer student questions. It makes the course seem less "canned" and more customized to students every semester. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about VidGrid?

VidGrid has been very useful for screen recording in our College, and the UI is intuitive and easy to explain to others. It's also been simple to troubleshoot issues with VidGrid. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

I'd really like if there was a desktop app version of VidGrid, rather than just the in-browser site. It can be cumbersome for many of our users to login through a browser and then have to open the screen recorder separately on the desktop. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

Faculty and staff in our College use VidGrid daily for recording lectures and classes. Students also are able to use it seamlessly for projects and other group work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about VidGrid?

I love that VidGrid has so many features in one place that take the place of what used to require many separate tools: video recording, editing, hosting, captioning, LMS integration, and quizzing are just a few of the features available all in one platform.

Their support is amazing...enter a question on the chat screen, and someone is answering your question within minutes! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

There are few downsides, but if I have to choose, I would say that it would be nice to have more robust video editing features, such as the ability to record over a portion of the video when information needs to be added at a later date or to edit audio. That being said, part of the beauty of VidGrid is that it is user-friendly to faculty. Adding too many features may make it less so.

I would like to see videos that are embedded in Blackboard copy from one section to another. I am not sure whether this is a Blackboard or a VidGrid problem, though.

I wish it had a screenshot tool with a place to host photos, not just video Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering VidGrid:

You will be hard-pressed to find a company with better features and support for the price! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

It started with Closed Captioning videos. That was the biggest problem we set out to solve with VidGrid, and it has been the most reasonably priced solution for that we could find. The added benefits, however, have been that it is user-friendly, so faculty don't mind using it, video is easily edited, they host the videos for us, and it integrates with Blackboard. Perhaps the biggest benefits have been that faculty know they can hold students accountable for viewing the videos by adding questions about the videos that the students are required to answer before viewing to the end and that these quizzes automatically transfer to the Blackboard grade center. Response from Glenn Oslin of VidGrid

Thanks for the awesome review, Heather! I am happy to say the few downsides you mentioned will be addressed in 2020 (aside from screenshot tool, sorry! Will add to our feature requests). We can't wait to show what we have been working on. Thanks for being an awesome customer.

What do you like best about VidGrid?

I love the closed captions, trim tool, quizzes, and chapters. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

I wish I could more easily add content in the middle of a video instead of having to split a video, create a new video, and merge the three. More advanced editing would be helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering VidGrid:

For video creation and basic editing, VidGrid is a great tool. I think it is a great tool for creating micro-lectures and even doing a flipped classroom model. Students can engage with the video through chapters and questions so you know they are going to get more out of it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

Accessibility for multimedia with closed captions. Providing students meaningful feedback with the screen recording view. Better online interaction with students. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about VidGrid?

I like VidGrid because it has been extremely satisfying to coordinate a sustainable remote connection, it has definitely taken it for granted that I can make a video call without the connectivity going down. All the tools are well executed and functional. Very good program, I like it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

I don't like that the software is slow sometimes, maybe it is because of the constant updates that the program makes and the hardware is falling behind in performance capacity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering VidGrid:

It is not difficult to use it, I consider VidGrid a very well elaborated program, with solid execution flashes. You can have your company in constant communication through its documents or files. I like it and I know you might like it too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have simply increased communication and team collaboration to clarify doubts, suggestions or improve projects through ideas. It integrates with many of our devices, making most of them use it as internal support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about VidGrid?

As a site admin, the best thing about VidGrid is that it is easy to use and requires almost no end-user support. When there is a need for support at the admin level, the VidGrid team is responsive to requests. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

I do wish the analytics piece was a little more robust and that we could create more fine-grained permissioning, but honestly, if I had to choose, I'd prefer they continue to devote development resources toward the recorder/playback platform over these administrative details. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering VidGrid:

VidGrid doesn't do EVERYTHING some other vendors in this space do, but what they do they do very well. We went with VidGrid for this reason and that it was very ease to get up-and-running, which has probably been the biggest factor for adoption. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

We were able to retire an old out-dated MMS server that required students and faculty to download additional media players and enable flash in their browsers. Also, our department was having to be the central repository for all video and faculty were using a wide variety of tools we weren't able to support. Now we have a unified platform that we can support and recommend; we can provide high-quality closed captioning without use of 3rd-party service; the tool is integrated with the LMS so all students and faculty have direct access to it when they need it without having to go looking for it. What do you like best about VidGrid?

My favorite feature of VidGrid is their customer support system. Chat is almost always available and live. Just yesterday, I had a query that was not only discussed and solved in real time with one of their support personal, but a question I had was answered with a very helpful screen recording video that was recorded as an immediate response. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

Sometimes my organization's needs require smaller, non-essential features that aren't always available. But this is a stretch to call it a dislike. I understand that startups have limited resources and must prioritize their modifications. So really, I'm reaching here for a dislike. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering VidGrid:

If your video platform needs require a level up from larger providers, consider checking out VidGrid. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

Educational media requires quite a bit of customization and accessibility to features. There's a certain flexibility and that VidGrid provides that allows to expansion and organization capabilities that are not often found in other platforms. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about VidGrid?

As with many smaller operations, the best thing about Vidgrid is their responsiveness to requests. Actually, the whole process from describing our use-case scenario, through a trial/demo from them, through making our purchasing decision was really easy and smooth. And then, as we used the product more and more, and thought of additional helpful features we wanted, they were quick to respond and (usually) add those features for us. Their team has been a pleasure to work with. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

At this point, there's nothing we've requested that hasn't been provided by them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

We needed a smaller and more affordable platform to host videos for learners and customers. We needed something that would allow us to segment our user base into groups, based on their provider or working group. We needed something that was simple and easy to use, and fit into the previously described parameters. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about VidGrid?

I love how simple and easy it is to just start recording an audio or video with VidGrid. It took me minimal effort to get started but I do highly recommend the training videos first. Then follow along with them (at least that was helped me learn faster). Probably my favorite thing about VidGrid is after you do a recording you can simply just share this with someone else and quickly. I've recorded and uploaded it to and on YouTube before and VidGrid is faster and cleaner by far. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

I do appreciate how simple VidGrid is but in some regards it feels a bit too simplistic. I guess I'd like MyGrid to be laid out with more options. It sounds like I'm not satisfied, its more that I feel like something is missing. Like more editing options to the videos themselves. For instance: If I uploaded a video from a source like Camtasia but then I wanted to make some small edits to the video that would be fantastic. Does this make sense? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering VidGrid:

As I mentioned before in my review watch the Tutorials they are very helpful. Don't hesitate to reach out for help from the staff at VidGrid. They are quick to respond and the few times I needed help they were very supportive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

So far I'm still working on my first project but I love how VidGrid has enabled me to show my progress to my co-workers and Supervisor. I've received very helpful feedback which has lengthened the project but they are necessary changes so this was good. VidGrid made it possible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about VidGrid?

VidGrid is a quick and easy way for me to create and upload videos for my students. Anytime that they are having trouble with a concept, or I just want to review instructions for using a graphing calculator, I can make a video within minutes to assist them. With distance learning such a large part of what I do now, being able to make videos quickly and efficiently is important. With prior methods, it seemed like it would take an hour just to create a 10 minute video! Once my college adopted VidGrid, and linked it with our SSO process, I definitely started creating more videos for my students because the process was made so much easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about VidGrid?

There is nothing that I dislike about VidGrid. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is VidGrid solving and how is that benefiting you?

With teaching math, I can make a video one time to show students steps of doing something on a graphing calculator. If they don't master it the first time, then all they have to do is re-watch the video, or the part of the video where they missed a step. It cuts down on a lot of e-mails trying to explain similar steps. Besides calculator steps, I use my Surface Pro like a "high-tech overhead projector," and VidGrid also allows me to easily create videos where I can show students, and explain, how to solve a problem. They find this method much easier to understand than just reading steps on a piece of paper or out of a textbook. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
