## Vectorworks Architect Reviews
  ### 1. Vectorworks thinks like an Architect

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2024

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

I have used BIM software since the early 90s, and 3d and animation software; Architron (in the 90s), MiniCAD then Vectorworks, ArchiCAD, 3D studio Max, Lightwave, etc.
After a couple of years using ArchiCAD, I swapped back to Vectoworks because it was more intuitive, easier to use, had better graphics and OZCAD added features that adapted it well to the Australian building industry regulations.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

File sizes getting too large and uses too much memory to run well on an iMac.
The software would benefit from an overhaul so it runs more leanly.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

-

**Official Response from Tyler French:**

> Thank you for sharing your experience with Vectorworks Architect. We're glad to hear that you find it intuitive and well-adapted to the Australian building industry regulations.

  ### 2. Most versatile design software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ron K. | Architect, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Vectorworks is an all-in-one package that can be as 2d or 3d as you need. I never have to leave the software or use alternative packages to go between drafting 2d details and modeling entire buildings. Rendering and the ease of data management is also first class.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Because it is so versatile, it really is the wild west of software, so, you need to create your own systems for workflow and organization; but, they provide some really good examples to get you going.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of use, and quality of the deliverable.

**Official Response from Tyler French:**

> We're glad to hear that you find Vectorworks Architect to be a versatile solution that meets your design needs, especially regarding seamless 2D drafting and 3D modeling.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2024

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The VectorWorks interface is pretty intuitive. The 2d drawings look like an architectural drawing on the screen. It's easy to transition to 3d views.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

I haven't found a good way to insert a custom sink into a counter created with the countertop tool

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The annual updates to the program seem to keep me up on the current trends in BIM and renderings.

**Official Response from Tyler French:**

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Arts and Crafts | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2024

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Very intuitive and able to be very creative.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

While easy to learn to use at a basic level it takes time to understand in depth.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Can design and plan out the items I am going to create.

**Official Response from Tyler French:**

> We're glad to hear that you find Vectorworks Architect intuitive and creative. We recommend checking out Vectorworks University (university.vectorworks.net) as it is great for learning new tips and tricks, and much more.

  ### 12. Great software but less commonly used

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

As a designer I love the ability to make plans, elevations and details look graphically appealing and super easy to read. Other software cant combine images and colours in the same way Vectorworks can.
I've heard Vectorworks described as less accurate than other software but this is not the case, it all still works in millimetres (in the uk)

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Sadly its just not commonly used any more and seems to have been replaced with Revit now. Although Vectorworks has BIM capabilities I'm sad to say its fallen behind in this regard so is seen as somewhat obsolete now and i dont know of many practices still using it.
In terms of usability I have no complaints with it and find it user friendly.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

I would recommend Vectorworks for its flexibility to be great for designers showing plans or more visual diagrams but also its capacity to do technical detailing easily

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is an oddly worded question. The problems I have with the software is that its not used by the wider consultant team so there's little opportunity to see new updates or use it much any more.
The benefits are that it really works well for designers and can be used either for simple or more complicated details

  ### 13. Architect

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2020

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Learning Vectorworks Architect and the support from their people and the community are what puts Vectorworks above other BIM programs. The best program in the world won't help you if it is difficult to learn and use. Check out Vectorworks University. Vectorworks has the best approach in the business for taking in and implementing user suggestions. Ease of use and skill building are tops. Vectorworks has great 2D and graphics tools such as fonts, drop shadows, gradients, hatches and patterns, line weights etc, better than ArchiCAD and Revit in this regard. This helps you do more within the program to get the best graphics quality possible without resorting to translating and exporting to programs like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. Check out built viewport image effects for PS like effects.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

From its history as a 2D program there are weird legacy workflows between 2D and 3D. For example the attributes palette is awkward and others have done better and faster in easing editing object attributes.
I wish VWA had clearer 3D modeling tools. in some case you need to convert 3D objects to other types for 3D commands to work yielding too many steps. However, the modeling kernel is fantastic and this is a trade-off. You can retain the modeling history of 3D object modifications down to several levels. The other issue is there are too many clicks required in dialogue boxes down to too many layers of interaction. This could, and is being simplified. VWA needs a good iPad companion program like ArchiCAD's BIMx. Managing licenses in Vectorworks is more difficult than in ArchiCAD. I wish that allowed you to manage which CPU is using which license on the fly through the website. I often need to call and have them reset my license when I need to switch from home desktop to laptop, and back to work desktop.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Take a good look, download and use the trial version.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have use VWA to model and document complex projects such as a 700-seat theater. The benefits have been IFC export to consultants with other BIM programs. Getting rendering and construction documents done in the same program is a huge time saver. A

  ### 14. Good Basic Software

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

It’s simple to use, you can find what you are looking for quickly

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

It very basic and for more complicated design I am not sure whether it is suitable

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Good software to use

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Plans and basic render

  ### 15. Intuitive Architectural Design BIM & CAD Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rick H. | Owner, Managing Member, Designer and Supervisor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

VW seems easier to learn and put to use quickly than any other software of this type that I've tried. I downloaded around six different trials including Revit, ArchiCad, ActCad and Sketchup but none of them seemed to be as intuitive for me as Vectorworks Architect. I've barely scratched the surface of what it can do, but I've completed floor plans and 3d models for my clients that are much better and more impressive than anything else I've tried. I especially like the fact that there are 2d/3d symbols for doors, windows, toilets, sinks, cabinets, plumbing and many other things that I can place in top/plan view. When I go to a 3d view, they are there without any modifications. It's easy to edit and create variations of door, window and cabinet symbols on the fly. Drawing in 2d and extruding to 3d is very simple as well. For counter tops, you can draw a polygon in Top/Plan view, then extrude it to 1 1/2" and set the bottom to 36" in three simple steps. Go to any 3d view and there it is.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Maybe I'm not deep enough into it at this point, but I haven't found anything that I really dislike yet. Sometimes it can be difficult to find the right BIM object or 2d/3d symbol for specific name brand appliances, sinks, faucets, etc. But I'm usually able to find something that works for the purpose fairly quickly. This should get easier the more I use it and save things that I use repeatedly.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

3d modeling really enables my clients to visualize what their home, remodel or addition will look like. It helps all of those people that "can't visualize" spacially. Also, it's very easy to import a PDF or image file and modify it to scale without doing a single calculation. You simply draw a line along a known dimension on the image and then input the length of the line you drew and the length that you need it to be according to what is stated on the image and click OK and the whole image or the selected part of the image will be to exact scale - Flawless. Also, there are various ways of creating walls and the easiest way for me is a hybrid of click/drag and keyboard input: Click and start dragging, hit tab, input the length (and angle if necessary), hit return, then continue in another direction. Repeat until you close the walls or finish the section and hit return twice and it closes on the last dimension/angle. Preset all wall/layer/story heights and when you're done drawing in Top/Plan mode, you'll have a 3d view that you can spin, rotate, flyover/under and look at from any vantage point.

  ### 16. The unwanted child of Autocad and Illustrator. An almost Reddit.

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2019

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Simplicity of controlling line weights and colors.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

(For MAC) The program does not work well for large files. It is okay for small and simple projects. Having classes and layers makes it difficult to manage lines and objects are being shown correctly albeit this can be fixed by office standards. Referenced files don't work well and you can not copy viewports from one file to another. Making coordination difficult.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Make in program excel sheet work more cleanly, be able to import interactive excel sheets from other programs.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It takes double the amount of time than other programs can do.

  ### 17. Architectural designer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emily K. | Technical Coordinator, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

I like how architectural objects are ready to use, unlike revit, vectorworks gives more design freedom and less constraints. Also the rendering built-in works great! Other programs or plug-ins are not needed when using vectorworks to render.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

There are some bugs that we are communicating right with Vectorworks development team. Small bugs mostly.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Project sharing can be tricky at times.

  ### 18. Great software for presentation drawings

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Being able to see true representation of line weights/images etc as you designs. Also compatible with Mac and PC, I prefer the default short keys with this cad software over other options

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Exportation/importation of DWG files is not always 100% accurate

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Makes designing for presentations much faster easier as you can see line weights/hatches etc in real time

  ### 19. Great software with learning curve

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The user interface is very clean, simple, and easy to navigate.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

The learning curve to get use to the program is tough, but once you get use to the program it's fairly easy to use

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

There is a fully functional version of this software available for free to students. Learning on this makes using the real thing easier

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using vectorworks designer, I am able to get more precise measurements for designs that needs to be constructed

  ### 20. Depends what you are looking for

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The software is great, and has a tremendous potential in design aspect for his free modeling, but is lack in organitation and documentation

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

His organitation and documentation process, is to arcaic and make lose time

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Dont learn this software on your own

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

scenography and architectural design and planning

  ### 21. Great Program for Architects

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Very easy to use and learn. The graphics are crisp and great. Really is suited to architects who are graphic learners. I enjoy working in 3D.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

I dislike the fact that the the program user interface has not been updated in some time. There are too many dialog boxes to click through at times

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Run a trial for 30 days and use the vast library of learning videos on youtube

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Best benefit is time and being able to use BIM resources from the internet

  ### 22. Greatest Program I have used

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Architecture & Planning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

It is very easy to transition from cad or revit. The Bim software is excellent and growing. I like to compare vectorworks to a more sophisticated illustrator that has cad/revit built in. I am able to work in a 3d format as well as 2D just like illustrator, just in case I need to urgently create a design with lines and polygons. The best part is how easy it is to export in a PDF/Image or DWG I am able to instantly export each sheet/design in its proper format to share with clients/ collaborators, I highly recommend vectorworks for new users who want to have control over their whole drawing. the hotkeys and commands are very easy to learn but are not required to complete a project.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

I dislike how you have to pin some of the tools onto you're drawing page. Considering there are hundreds of tools in this program I dont think working on a single screen is as fusible as a duel. I can also say that I am not a fan of the story setting. The one thing I appreciate about other programs compared to vectorworks is how easy they are at working in a vertical position compared to vectoworks

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Take advantage of their software training and webinars. its free and its very in depth

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am solving the problem of designing on the go. I can render, Detail, do a schematic design or a complete bim project all within the project. The dimension tool also allows to collect data very quickly about the project

  ### 23. Best All-around CAD/3 software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel K. | Senior Project Architect, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2018

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Great integration of 2 d and 3d. Wide variety of extremely useful Plug-In objects that make drawing and modeling quick, easy and versatile for design studies.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

The more recent version of their Resouce Browser is quite slow when trying to access items. I did not have this problem in v 2014 but it is very apparent in v2018.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One program can han handle many aspects of pulling together presentations. No need for a separate modeling and rendering program. Use various fills, patterns, gradients and my new fave “drop shadows” make for great graphics without having to bring drawings into Photoshop. Easy importing of graphics, photos, etc. combined with veiwporting gives InDesign like features for producing booklets and other types of presentations. Easy to use worksheets for generating schedules and managing data without having to go into Excel. While these type of features are not as robust and sophisticated as these other specialized programs, the convenience of being able to execute such a myriad of tasks in one software is really terrific.

  ### 24. My happy place

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jakob Z. | Draftsperson, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

From BIM to IFCs, Vectorworks is where I go to get things done.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Can be a bit buggy on new updates but probably as much my machine as anything.
Nomad is not very functional for me.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I dont have to use paper and a pen as much.

  ### 25. Crippling problems ruin otherwise great software

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The software at an initial level is pretty user friendly, good layers and classes system for drawing on. Rendering has improved a lot in recent years.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

The software advertises itself as being suitable for BIM workflows, and it frankly isn't. Bugs are prevalent throughout the software, and new implementations are added with each edition year after year which are half finished and never revisited.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Use Revit instead.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vectorworks is fine for 2D drawing. Now that we have moved into 3D modelling and BIM, Vectorworks simply does not cut it. If you are planning to use Vectorworks for any BIM process, avoid it and go instead for Revit.

  ### 26. THE complete BIM package for architects

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter E. | Faculty Director - Career Development Outreach, Higher Education, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 15, 2015

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Our office has been using Vectorworks in some incarnation since 1994, and personally since 1992. Since those early releases (and continuing to this day), it has distinguished itself for its ease of use as a 3D modeling program, enabling us to generate sophisticated, integrated, complete visualizations and documentation of our projects. No other software package has been able to offer such capabilities at such an accessible price point. In short, Vectorworks is a spectacular design tool.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

The primary regret with Vectorworks is its lack of penetration in the US market in architecture. New associates in our practice rarely have experience with the program. However, once using it on our projects they too are evangelized.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Get the trial version - engage with the tutorial, and see how straightforward it is to generate an intelligent data-laden 3D model.
Version 2018 is a major upgrade - the multi-window view is finally here.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Architecture Is Fun utilizes Vectorworks for quick design sketches and modeling, for generating out to 3D printers, and as our BIM software. Having a single program have such range and ease of use, with support and upgrades that keep ahead of competing products has proven a wise investment over the life of our practice. It works equally well on our Mac platform, and on platforms used by colleagues. Invisibly, and with great ease it imports and exports to all of our consultants and collaborators platforms - realizing great efficiency.

  ### 27. User friendly design software

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bob S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

It's a simpler version of Autocad, and easy to learn from Youtube. Straight forward program. If you know how to use Autocad, Vectorworks is a piece of cake. It's like PC vs. Mac.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Not all firms and architects use this program, therefore it's not easy to format or export/import files in from Autocad.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Easier to use than Autocad.
You can customize VW like Cad too.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No business problems. We draft, and it gets the work done. The files aren't as big as Autocad, so it's easy to run on Mac.

  ### 28. Beginner User

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephanie Y. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2018

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

This is a pretty intuitive program. The first time I used Vectorworks, I had never heard of it before, but I had previous experience in Revit and Sketch up and was able to easily apply that knowledge to Vectorworks.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Coming from a Revit / Sketch up background the editing capabilities seemed somewhat reduced.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

It's always helpful to search some tutorials when using a software for the first time.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used Vectorworks to create basic floor plans, elevations, and sometimes renderings.

  ### 29. USER FOR OVER 10 YRS.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samuel C. | Adjunct Professor-Architecture, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The capacity to integrate design features between architecture, landscape architecture. mechanical engineering and urban design, not to forget the rendering capabilities of rendtrworks. The capacity to share big information with my consultants is also very important

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

There are a couple of things I dislike: when you upgrade from one version to the next, sometimes you loose information and programed preference or standards. That should not happen. The other thing is having to put so much time to input data to make the application possibilities a useful toll.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

I have recommended others to buy it. Most professionals in our area use Autocad or Revit. We are a minority here. that is the worst limitation as well as the difficulty in getting training at a reasonable price (traveling for training becomes an additional burden, and is not a continuous support)

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm an Architect, landscape architect, and urban design. I use it for all my design projects in all the phases. I use the the rendering capabilities of renderworks for presentations, I they work fine. .

  ### 30. Vectorworks just keeps getting better and better!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Judith R. | Architect, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

BIM capabilities combined with almost infinite flexibility in the look of output. Whenever I need a specific technique or took, I can invariably find it and marvel at how
I ever lived without it!

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Sometimes I cannot figure out how I have done a really awesome thing in the past. But that is me, not Vectorworks. Usually after some traipsing through the software I can find the elusive technique.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am looking forward to getting more into Marionnette. In general, Vectorworks is excellent at 'keeping track of' and compiling building components.

  ### 31. Architect long time user

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dov H. | Owner, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Initial set setup, ease of design and 3d presentation

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Some features do not get better with time, Occasionally it feels as if they get worse
For instance: Stair tool have become more and more difficult to manipulate
Dormer tool- extremely frustrating
Roof tool unrealistic
Floors, Slabs and Stories MUST have Wall Section GRAPHICS , just as in Real Architecture
Need better manipulation of wall layers
Slab creation should have options for controlling components gross area or individual spaces (not separate spaces) Wood be nice to have a floor joist creation and direction within slabs
Wall joints tend to open during work, would be nice to have a 'Wall Lock' feature that will allow insertion of doors/windows without breaking joint. Not easy to create UN-conventional terminus.
Schedules: doors, windows need upgrading for ease of use and graphics.
In general there needs to be better coordination with practicing Architect in the US

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

It's a good product, but may not be the best in the markey

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As an Architect I find it easier to show a client a 3D project, quick sketching

**Official Response from Lauren Burke Meyer:**

> Thanks for reviewing Architect, we always appreciate customer feedback, and we’re happy to hear you enjoy the ability to quickly show your clients 3D presentations with Vectorworks.

If you have any specific requests for the features you listed you can always submit them for consideration for future updates here: https://forum.vectorworks.net/index.php?/forum/19-wishlist-feature-and-content-requests/.

  ### 32. I use Vectorworks because it combines 2D graphics and 3D modelling in a very intuitive way

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thomas G. | Sagsarkitekt og projektleder, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The best thing about Vectorworks is that it combines both 2D and 3D. It has great tools for drafting, and I especially like the graphic tools in 2D. It's easy for me to create good drawings, because I can control the graphic output in a very intuitive way (much like Adobe).
I don't need Illustrator or Indesign to create presentations. This saves me a lot of time.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

It tends to crash often, which can be annoying from time to time.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Buy the program if your desire is designing. It´s easy to learn and I enjoy to work with Vectorworks every day.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's time saving, easy to learn, easy to use. And it's much cheaper than Revit.

  ### 33. A great, flexible tool for everything from initial concept to project completion

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Neil B. | Vectorworks Productivity & Workflow Advisor, Software Trainer & Tech Support Specialist, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The flexibility that the software allows for my entire design process from start to finish, plus the ability to create looking drawings and renderings all within one application.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

It's difficult to say because anything I've found in the software that I feel needs addressing, the company addresses. The company clearly cares about and stands behind their application. If anything is needed, it's perhaps more versatile options for window/door configurations.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Download the trial version, review the Getting Started Guides at Vectorworks.net and communicate with over users at the Vectorworks Community Forum.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I no longer need several different applications (with all of their individual costs and learning curves). Vectorworks does everything I need for 3D modelling, 2D drawing creation and visualization.

  ### 34. Lets me work how I wish to work

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rob N. | Building Design & Construction Technologist, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Vectorworks allows me to work the way I wish to work. Provides me with all the tools I need and some I didn't know I need. Its a very powerful all in one solution to handle the smallest of projects to large team collaboration projects.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

I honestly cannot say I dislike anything. Any issues I have had have been able to be addressed to the Vectorworks team. They would acknowledge my concerns and either provide a solution or have updated me on progress of things being fixed. Their active communication on their forum lets clients know they are indeed listening.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Watch the tutorials provided by Vectorworks. Becoming an advanced user is doable through bite sized pieces of implementation.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allowed me to show clients how their projects will look in a way they can understand. Allows me to coordinate with consultant team to show where conflicts may have occurred.

  ### 35. Why Ive been using Vectorworks for 11 years

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laura D T. | Design Consultant, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 22, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Vectorworks has kept the same interface year after year - improving each tool with the new versions. Other software seems to have fun changing the interface and icons so you have to re-learn software every time you upgrade instead of getting better at software. Also - I know the technicians by name and never have to be on hold for support. When I thought about switching to Autodesk product - just the wait time to talk to sales person turned me off. They have great incentives for student upgrades and reasonably priced subscriptions.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Cross over between platforms is never as smooth as I hope. Since they do not have monopoly in US- it can be a challenge to coordinate drawings (exporting/importing). For the small scale projects I'm working on, this is not such an issue.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Great software for smaller scale projects

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to design and draft quickly is a huge asset to my business.

  ### 36. Very simple program to teach employees.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Craig S. | Owner/CEO, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

This software is for architects. It was developed by architects and is used by architects. Other CAD systems were hard to learn, or it took much longer to teach and apply. Another positive aspect is the fact that you can model (go 3d) very easily. This is large in both design and production.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Would like to see more advanced, or updated rendering interface software that could be utilized in conjunction with Vectorworks.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Just try it. It's very addictive and very simple in application. Recommend you start on a smaller project, but utilize ALL aspects of the system. It is also easy to "form" and apply personal touches with relevant applications. Whats really cool, it how you can go back and forth on a design solution once in 3d to evaluate. That will sell you....

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cut-to-the-chase problem solving. When you utilize the full capacity of the software, it takes much less time to develop a design solution then expected. Plus you can apply alternatives in as short a period of time, as well.

  ### 37. Usable, but Needs to Evolve

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

I purchase Vectorworks many years ago, when options for professional drafting on Macintosh were limited. There are more options today, including AutoCAD, but Vectorworks is still quite capable. 2D drafting tools are good. Page layout, formatting, a composition tools are also good, but not entirely intuitive. 3D modeling tools are basic, but functional. Renderworks and product good results, if your expectations are simple.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

The user interface is outdated and convoluted. The learning curve is steep and can be frustrating. BIM capabilities are limited and inflexible. Tools seems half-baked and are often awkward to use quickly and efficiently. User are forced to adapt to oddities of the software, rather than the other way around. BIM capabilities are very limited, and setting up a model in a clear, logical way is extremely difficult.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

I would recommend Vectorworks, but with caveats. 2D drafting tools are quite good. 3D tools are emerging. Rending is fairly simple, but inflexible. BIM capabilities are very limited.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vectorworks is great at combining 2D, 3D, and page layout and it's a great option for Macintosh-based offices.

  ### 38. The best Software for designers.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gil C. | Professor of Architecture, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The interphase let you do too many things, you can design almost everything in few steps. I like the interest of the developers to introduce new resources and tools.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Sometimes I feel the program doesn't advance as the same way of the designers. They try to include too many things and don't resolve old problems. I think they have to improve the export cad files and sharing options

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

If you want to do more with less use Vectorworks Designer.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As architect and designer I can do any project and handle difficult structure and collaborate with different disciplines

  ### 39. John's Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John C. | President, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

3D architectural and landscape design features.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Cost of programs and training, amount of time it takes to "catch up" after lapse between use.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

If you work in VectorWorks Architect regularly, its great. If you go long periods time without drawing, it can take awhile to get back up to speed.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It permits me to study existing buildings and present my findings with clarity and accuracy. While I continue to do this, it is no longer a business, it is a contribution of my skills to various non-profits engaged in historic preservation, and training less experienced historic preservation professionals.

  ### 40. Complete and versatile program

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bill F. | Architect, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

I like what Nemetschek has embraced in the way architectural drawing software needs to work. It is a nimble and intuitive three dimensional software program that surpasses its locomotive sized nemisis, Revit, in its lightness, agility and speed.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Unlike the larger lumbering and powerful, program Revit, Vectorworks falls a notch behind in total work group solutions and document integration.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Ask Nemetcheck to share more about other users in other cities, so users can fluidly communicate with each other and in fact know who is using the program

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using Vectorworks as my total visualization and architectural documentation too.

  ### 41. An horrible case of bloatware

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Don't like it at all, and would like to replace it with alternatives

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

I started using this architectural software when it was minicad 2.5. At that time it was mac only, elegant, intuitive and great to use. A forerunner in its field. Vectorworks is a horrible piece of software that has remained in the 1980s. To do anything one has to open multiple dialogue boxes which are all unintuitive and confusing. It is a case of software engineers being given control of the user interface. Someone, with proper user interface expericen, has to take it back to the basic and rewrite the software from the grounds up.
Also the pricing structure sucks. To be forced to pay $600 every year for a something that does not add anything is unacceptable.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Renovation projects in London

  ### 42. Simple tools that are so powerful. .

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael R. | Owner, Management Consulting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2016

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Making pallets of only the tools I use everyday.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

If anything it would have to be the overall cost. However less than AutoCad

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

If you want to be able to work with other companies and people using different software this is the software that will be the most compatible.
Even the Mac and Windows files are compatible with each other without conversion or save as.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The befit of using VectorWorks is that I can use graphics and engineering drawings and output files to AutoCad and my colleagues don't even know I don't use AutoCad.

  ### 43. I've been using Vectorworks as a part of my daily workflow for twenty years.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The all in one integrated platform for 2d, 3d and rendering has significantly increased my productivity and reliance on other applications

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

The releases often feel a little rushed - I'd rather a new version every two years that was rock solid than working through all of the bugs which are almost always a part of their annual releases.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Speed and productivity have been greatly increased and it has made it easier to work with clients from afar without as much face to face time (which is still preferred but often too costly).

  ### 44. The long and short of using Vectorworks.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Craig S. | Senior Project Mgr, Displays & Exhibits, Construction, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 05, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Since the majority of what I do in Vectorworks now involves importing 3-d models from our Engineering job files and creating assembly instructions for the millwork our facility produces, the increased ease with which VW imports and translates ACAD files for me is one of the best features. What I like the best is that I can use layers as they were intended, i.e., working on small sections of a larger structure that can be correctly and easily aligned and assembled when finished with all the smaller sections, or as I most often use it where each layer is a separate page and at whatever scale works best for the item on that page.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

I have been working with this program since the late 1980's early 1990's when it was still MiniCAD. The yearly changes have been, at times, difficult to assimilate since I have been self-taught the entire time in which I have used this program. That being said, the fact that I was able to "catch myself up" so to speak says a lot about the user friendly interface and incredible detail in the hard copy manuals and on-line Help function which I admit to using quite thoroughly at times. The fact that I am a MAC user and MiniCAD and Vectorworks appear to be the best available option for Mac users is nothing to sneeze at and maybe that why it’s so easy to use.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Ease of use, relatively low-cost, certainly value-added, Mac based version availability all play a part in my satisfaction and willingness to recommend this product.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the past I have used MiniCAD and then Vectorworks to create complete sets of drawings for residential remodeling, and for new construction. These projects were "side-jobs" while during my normal business hours at a Full-service Exhibit House in Northeast Wisconsin. I provided the Concept Sketches for use by our Design staff to use as the basis for the color renderings which at that time were nearly all done with colored pencils and air-brush painting techniques. That was at a time when digital graphic renderings were unavailable unless you had access to a Cray computer. We also used VW for the Approval Drawings required to get clients to sign off on a project with a nearly complete and accurate conception of what we intended to build for them. From there Vectorworks enabled me to provide our Carpenters the shop drawings required to turn concept into reality. Last but not least, since Trade Show exhibits are designed, by necessity, to assemble and disassemble quickly at a trade show event, fit into crates designed to hold each component safely during transit and storage, and be ready to re-assemble at the next show, we used the program to provide a set of instructions for the various trades involved, to set up and then dismantle the booths as quickly and safely as possible.

  ### 45. User of Vectorworks for 4+ years

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexander D. | Job Captain, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

At our firm we hand sketches at the beginning of every project. Vectorwork lets us import these early on and by adjusting the line styling we can create hybrid drawings of hand and cad details which clients respond very well to. This is most likely the biggest plus for us as we can have a stream line process from sketch to final construction document set. In general we are able to work very quickly and efficiently.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Some of the 3d modeling tools are a little cumbersome. I have experience in Rhino which gives excellent control of 3d objects in general I miss that in Vectorworks. However I understand that they are completely different softwares.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

The software works best when you use solid shapes as opposed to line work only. I have experience in Adobe Illustrator and many features are similar in Vectorworks.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The basic BIM features for schedules in the file help speed up the drawings and allow for changes to occur fairly seamlessly

  ### 46. Versatile design software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Danny M. | Project Manager, Construction, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

I've used Vectorworks for about 13 years for everything from renders to sell jobs, permit sets, shop drawings, and output for digital manufacturing. I've even been able to use the BIM functions to keep track of parts and BOM for product design.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

I have had trouble with exporting colored lines requested by my laser cutter, I believe this has been solved in recent versions.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I like that I can turn to a single piece of software for pretty much any design task coming across my desk.

  ### 47. Have been using Vectorworks and it predecessors since 1992

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 21, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The interface is fairly straightforward.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

Vectorworks contains more bugs that it should. It will also get in a mode where it will not perform the command, but will after several tries.

There are some obvious functions it does not support, such as a cut command for 3D objects that preserves both parts.

3D features not as robust as the leaders AC, SW, ProE.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Is good for the price. VW does not place the same value on Designers as it does on Architectural. I would call it a top runner for the second tier Mechanical Engineering CAD. You have to spend much more to get better.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Have designed parts and systems in solar engineering, microscopy, ophthalmology, and 3D printing.

  ### 48. Full featured C.A.D. program for a realistic price equals tremendous value.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** randy c. | Architectural Designer, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 24, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

Veiwports are the bomb. Assembling sheets with drawings created on design layers using viewports keeps everything synced and systematic.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

The 2016 version takes too long to boot up.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Just go get this software. Nothing compares for the price. Easy to use and powerful. It will make you a beast.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Design Development drawings for client communication.

Client presentations combining Vectorworks Architect 3D modeling capabilities with Renderworks.

Construction Documents sets for permit submittals and fabrication.

Code analysis and egress diagrams

  ### 49. Great Software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jessica T. | Designer, Architecture & Planning, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 04, 2017

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

The 2D aspect of the software is great for seeing what your drawing is going to look like before printing. Our firm does not primarily use the 3D side but from what I've used, I have been thrilled with the easy navigation of the tools that the software provides.

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

I think the 3D aspect of the software should be able to automatically update 2D drawings when a change is made in the 3D side.

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

I would highly recommend this product to others because of the ease of use and instant quality of the drawings on the screen before printing.

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are trying to solve the drawing quality of the 3D side that the 2D side allows you to make. Example, line thickness of a drawing should be added into the 3D side with the same ease and simplicity as that of the 2D side.

  ### 50. very frustrating-- full of unacknowledged bugs

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** gary o. | principal, Architecture & Planning, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Vectorworks Architect?**

When it works, it's pretty good.
seems easier to use and more intuitive than auto cad, particularly in WYSIWYG, and organization of layers and classes. Though admittedly, that's just my perception, as I really have very little experience with other programs, except for Sketchup

**What do you dislike about Vectorworks Architect?**

It is FULL of bugs. They claim that all the problems I'm having are unreported by anyone else and may be specific to my setup. I'm on a top of the line Macbook pro from 2015 running yosemite-- not the best, but should be good enough.
A few of the Biggest:
-Actively used files are degrading-- spontaneously losing substantial information
-Doesn't update pallets unless i save, and sometimes not even then
-Doesn't autosave consistently
-Often gets into streaks when an undo takes me back many (10?, 100?) steps and cannot accept a re-do
-Doesn't recognize which of multiple windows are active (e.g. I try to add a layer to the active file, and it adds it instead to a different, open but not active file.

Also, tech support is incredibly available, but incredibly useless for anything other than routine issues

**Recommendations to others considering Vectorworks Architect:**

Be prepared for bugs you would have expected in 2002

**What problems is Vectorworks Architect solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Architectural 2d construction documents and 3d modeling

Have produced CD drawings and fairly detailed models for presentation and study
