  ### 1. Vanta Not a Good Solution for a Solo-Person Software Company

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

It offers a checklist of things that need to be done in an easy-to-understand user interface.  This makes going through each item and crossing it off the list a straightforward process. They also provide directions on how to do each step properly which is critical for a small company like mine that doesn't have a lot of infrastructure experience.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

They are optimized to work best with medium to large sized companies and their automated processes are built with those expectations.  For a solopreneur company like mine, the entire process is time-consuming, burdensome and near impossible. They did not offer proper guidance to me about what it would take to get SOC2 compliance for a company my size and I felt misled by their salesperson about the "ease" with which it could be done.  Items like "every PR must be approved by someone else" isn't possible in a 1-person company.  Things like "you must commit a PR to your code every month" also doesn't apply when the product is mature and feature complete. There are numerous other examples of where a small or solo software company would not be able to meet Vanta's requirements.  This should have been disclosed better in my initial discussion with them. All in all it's been a huge headache to try to get certified, I doubt I'll ever be able to reach the endpoint, and I wish I had never signed up with Vanta.

**What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We wanted to be compliant with SOC-2 in order to try to land government contracts which would have required this compliance.  Vanta claimed to make this process easy with checklists and offered another company (Workstreet) to help us during this process.  I would not say we've benefitted from Vanta in any way however.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I appreciate that Vanta integrates with most applications like BambooHR, AWS, and MongoDB Atlas, which helps in tracking all kinds of compliance issues. I like how it automatically gets vulnerability details from AWS Inspector and tracks to resolve them within the SLA period. Using Vanta, we can track and shoot down vulnerability issues very quickly and effectively. Additionally, the integration was a very easy peasy process.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

It can be used for integration with self-hosted software like self-hosted Mongo or MySQL servers.

**What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Vanta for compliance tracking; it integrates with apps like BambooHR, AWS, and MongoDB Atlas, tracking compliance and resolving issues. It pulls vulnerability details from AWS Inspector and helps us quickly resolve vulnerabilities effectively.

I like how Vanta provides visibility into our weak areas in security and makes it easier to stay in compliance. As HR, I appreciate seeing all employees and their training/security issues in one place, saving me hours of manually going through a tracking sheet, which often has a larger margin of error due to outdated data.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

It can be hard to navigate with so many features. Just the amount to go through when you start using it at a company, there is a lot of self-learning.

**What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Vanta gives us visibility into weak security areas, streamlines compliance, manages offboarding, cybersecurity policies, HIPAA training, and consolidates employee and training data, saving hours on manual updates and reducing errors.

I use Vanta for audits and it helps streamline the audit review cycle. I like the easy-to-use UI and the clear directions it gives me if an error occurs. Vanta's remediate feature for severity findings is very valuable because it walks you through how to remediate those findings. The initial setup of Vanta was as simple as 1, 2, 3.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

I think the integrations into our assets need to be improved. When we deactivate or remove assets, Vanta does not always recognize this, and it could lead to exceptions from auditors or just more work as we have to describe how those assets are decommissioned.

Vanta streamlines the audit review cycle and helps identify out-of-scope SLAs.

I find Vanta to be incredibly helpful as a GRC platform, especially in making compliance standard achievements less painful and reducing manual work. I particularly appreciate the framework mapping and how it clearly outlines required tasks. It's great because it makes it easier for someone without a legal background to understand what controls we need to meet or tasks to complete and links them to the relevant standards and clauses. The initial setup was pretty straightforward, although the integration took some time.

I think having the automated tests are huge. We sort of would like something that truly enforces that we're not just having stuff in place, but are enforcing our policies and such as well operationally.

I think it can do a better job of truly enforcing that we're following things. Instead of just a policy exists, but here are examples where the policy was enforced, incident reports etc.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I appreciate Vanta's ability to help us with the SOC2 certification process. The biggest selling point for me is its integration capabilities. Vanta integrates seamlessly with our main vendors and helps assess their setups. It's also great at detecting new and incoming vendors and vetting them as we move forward. The Google Cloud Platform and GitHub integrations have been instrumental in keeping us compliant and aware of any gaps. Additionally, we use the Slack integration to receive notifications about issues, which I find very useful. Setting up Vanta was surprisingly easy, thanks to the provided Terraform script, which I could refactor for our setup.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

A minor issue I've found with the security vulnerabilities component is the availability of a fix. Sometimes a dependency will have a fix, but the nature of the software we have makes those dependencies be transitive instead of direct dependencies. That means that we can't really fix the issue although the offending dependency has a fix. We end up monitoring those dependencies manually instead of relying on Vanta to tell us.

**What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Vanta for the SOC2 certification process. It maps changes needed for certification with its integrations, monitors security vulnerabilities and infrastructure drift, keeping us compliant. Google Cloud and GitHub integrations help maintain compliance and identify gaps.

No real dislikes to be honest, I can say that this works well for us.

Again as mentioned earlier, we do ISO compliance on a regular basis and Vanta makes sure that we are where we need to be and the best would be on how to remediate certain aspects of our infrastructure.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I like how Vanta helps us see the steps needed to ensure compliance, like which documents should be on file and actions for onboarding and offboarding. Their dashboard is very intuitive and easy to use. I appreciate the daily email reminders for tasks, which help me stay on top of compliance. The initial setup was extremely easy with Vanta, as they did most of the work and I just had to follow the online instructions.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

The login feature is clumsy. I can only log in using a magic link and have never been able to use credentials or know how to set them up. Also, even though the dashboard is easy to use, it's hard to search for things if you don't know where they are. Sometimes I struggle to find a document or report when I need to update it.

Vanta helps us get SOC 2 compliant by clarifying compliance steps and managing documents for onboarding and offboarding. The intuitive dashboard and daily task emails keep me organized.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I really appreciate how simple Vanta is. It automatically gathers evidence or identifies failures and gaps in our security stance, which was always a pain in the past. This automation saves us a ton of time and money compared to doing it manually. The initial setup was dead simple, with no complexity other than the SOC 2 process itself. Vanta makes the entire SOC 2 process much easier and more affordable than anything we've done before.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

It's very minor, but sometimes when connecting to external systems, it could have a little bit more intelligence. It could just go put the tickets inside of our bug tracking system automatically. It has a button, but you end up manually configuring some stuff it already knows, which is not a huge headache but a nuisance. I think they could improve their product by connecting it fully end-to-end. They could notice a security problem and file that in our bug tracking system, and an agent would automatically pick it up, propose a solution, and alert us to review and merge.

I use Vanta to automate our SOC 2 process, reducing the administrative burden significantly. It simplifies the process by automatically gathering evidence and identifying security gaps, saving us time and money.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I like Vanta because it helps with monitoring and reporting, especially for compliance with HIPAA and SOC 2. As a monitoring user, I appreciate that the monitoring application is all-inclusive. As an admin, I like having clear action items and a list of tasks to take care of. It's helpful that Vanta automatically runs tests on our infrastructure, monitoring our workers' computers so we can track everything through one dashboard. This setup provides action items for the team to handle quickly.

I think finding tests in the results list is hard sometimes. It takes some minutes to find them, and it's hard to sync that with the linear ticket. So that takes some time.

I wish the API wasn't only read-only, makes me waste a ton of time doing things myself Claude could be doing.

I use Vanta to gather all the evidence pre-audit for GDPR and SOC 2 compliance. It's easy to use with a clear trust center for sharing with customers. The support is nice, but the read-only API limits efficiency, requiring manual input Claude could automate.

I like that Vanta simplifies our HR Security workflows by automating onboarding requirements like background checks and training, and it tracks offboarding tasks to maintain a clean security posture. It's great for simplifying our hiring process, especially with quick background check services that work well for international employees. I appreciate how easy it is to centralize policy documentation and configure custom SLAs, ensuring every new hire signs off on time, which helps during security audits. **What do you like best about Vanta?**

I use Vanta for SOC 2 compliance management, and it's amazing how it simplifies everything. Having one place to keep track of everything makes managing compliance so much easier. It's so simple to learn, and I went in as an untrained user last year and was able to learn the software easily. The fact that anyone on our security team can learn the software quickly and help with compliance is so helpful. The initial setup was super straightforward. Our sysadmin had no issues with the process, and it was easy to get it set up. Adding new vendors is easy, and when we had connection issues with a vendor, it was easy to solve. We've integrated it with Slack, GitLab, AWS, Gmail, Figma, and Sentry.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

I don't like that there are filters preset when you look at controls and tests. It would be nicer if nothing were filtered so when you check your tests/controls percentages you had an accurate count based on all data.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I use Vanta to automate our compliance controls, and I really like its centralized nature and automation because it saves us a lot of time and makes checking our controls much less confusing. The trust center is another great addition since it provides customers with information on our security and compliance without us having to manually send that info or answer their questions every time. The integration process is easy, especially with Google, AWS, and Namely. The initial setup was extremely easy. I would rate my likelihood of recommending Vanta to a friend or colleague as a 9.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

Some of the tests for the controls seem arbitrary, also occasionally it has issues syncing data from other tools but those bugs are usually resolved fairly quickly.

**What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Vanta to automate compliance controls, making tracking much easier by centralizing them across our tools. It saves time, reduces confusion, and the trust center provides customers info on security and compliance. Integration with tools like Google and AWS is easy.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I use Vanta for certification compliance for SOC2, HIPAA, and more. I appreciate knowing all the controls I need to have in place and the ease of managing multiple frameworks. The automated tests make it so much easier than doing it manually. I like that it covers multiple compliance frameworks and is relatively easy to use. Starting with SOC2, I was able to progress significantly with HIPAA, GDPR, and ISO27001, completing HIPAA quickly and making a huge step forward with GDPR. The initial setup was relatively easy, and I got it running quickly.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

The percentage of completion on new frameworks does not really show accurately until the framework is actually activated. They do mention this. The percentage complete on new frameworks should be the same before and after the frameworks are turned on/off.

**What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Vanta to manage compliance for SOC2, HIPAA, and more. It helps me know all the necessary controls, manage multiple frameworks easily, and share overlapping evidence. The automated tests simplify the process compared to manual work.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I really like how Vanta simplifies the traditionally complex process of managing security and compliance programs. The strong integrations and clear visibility into compliance status save our team a lot of time. There's a bit of a learning curve early on, especially when configuring controls and integrations for the first time. Some workflows could be a bit more customizable to better match internal processes, and more flexibility in reporting would be helpful.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I like Vanta mostly for its easy-to-use interface. The vendor management piece is particularly noteworthy as it allows us to track vendors in a centralized area and conduct security reviews as part of our procurement process. Setting up Vanta and working on the framework is easy, especially with the ability to manage controls via the 'test' area, which makes starting our compliance journey straightforward.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

Security questionnaires still need improvement - there are times where it doesn't understand question context. E.g., OpenAI is different to ChatGPT but it doesn't understand the difference. The interface is still a little clunky and you can't bulk approve easily - I would suggest a shift + down to select multiple questions and approve. Another issue is the universal search in the questionnaire Knowledge Base - you need to be VERY specific on what you want. If you don't write it how the search wants you will not find what you are looking for.

Vanta helps manage all controls for frameworks like SOC 2 in one place, with features like easy vendor management and an intuitive interface that aids in security reviews during procurement.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I really like the AI integrated into Vanta because it helps review my policies and compliance. I also appreciate the tracking the tool provides me. Another important aspect is being able to see the progress of our objectives to maintain the system. The guidance that helps me detect GAPS within my policies is also something I value greatly. Additionally, the initial setup was quite easy and intuitive. I would definitely give it a 10 and recommend it to a friend or colleague.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

Sometimes I find it difficult to clearly understand which controls I am dealing with, especially with SoC 2. When I receive a notification, I find it a bit complicated to find it or associate it with any available control. I think it could be improved, in the end I find it, but sometimes it takes me a bit to reach the controls.

Vanta helps me a lot in the monitoring and maintenance of the frameworks and detects gaps in my policies and tools, continuously improving.

Yes, the part of policy management currently in the formula that we configured is by uploading the policy to the application, but we thought that having a system with established policies, we could add them there, that it would handle the versioning part, but it's not like that, we have to download the policy, update the version manually, upload it, and once there, approve it again. So the in-band approval process is a second step that doesn't end up being very useful, it's doing the work twice.

I like the overview Vanta provides, especially the fact that it monitors compliance all the time. This is really helpful for reporting to the boards as a quick snapshot without getting into too much detail. The way it handles policy reapproval and conducts our security awareness training is great because I basically don’t have to chase anyone. It's nice to have a short but useful video for those who want to see it, ensuring that baseline compliance for all staff is taken care of without wasting my time. We use the Trust Center, which is really good for getting sales prospects up to speed and giving us a professional kind of front door for security. It also reduces my workload since I have to answer fewer questions because people can get the documents themselves. Having Trust Center access approval integrated with Slack is really useful for our globally distributed team as it allows someone on the sales team to quickly approve access in Slack rather than waiting for me.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

We don't use a lot of the add-ons in Vanta, like the Vanta AI agents, because we have another product for security questionnaire automation (SecurityPal). When we started, the risk and vendor management systems were underpowered. They've since relaunched as add-ons, but they're probably a bit out of our price range. We handle this in Notion databases where we have full control over metadata and filtering. Vanta's integrations with our hosting provider Heroku are not great (probably due to limitations of the Heroku API), so we have to do a lot manually in that area.

The initial setup was incredibly easy, just involved receiving an email and signing in. One thing that's annoying is that almost every day, new vulnerabilities pop up that are not fixable, and Vanta still flags them. Even our engineers, with their more technical focus, can easily use the same tool with minimal training. **What do you like best about Vanta?**

I really value the alerting and monitoring features of Vanta, which are essential for knowing what we need to do. The clear dashboards and tasking are a big plus, giving us confidence that we'll have everything we need in place. These aspects make it very easy for us to monitor and track our program. Additionally, the integration with our cloud and software environments is beneficial. The initial setup was straightforward and seamless, making it easy to get policies and system descriptions in place.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I enjoy how easy Vanta is to use, how seamless things are, and how easy it is to navigate. Vanta makes things seem a lot more streamlined and quicker. Everything is in one place, and it's a lot easier to navigate and manage a bunch of things simultaneously.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

Currently, a lot of the integrations have difficulty, especially with our GitLab, AWS, and Sentinel One integrations. There's some issues around data accuracy and reporting. I've raised this to Vanta many times, and there is no fix yet.

**What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Vanta because it streamlines our GRC work in cybersecurity, making everything quicker and easier to manage by having it all in one place.

**What do you like best about Vanta?**

I find Vanta's GUI really easy to work through. It's pretty easy to understand and integrate. It makes going through audit items much easier, compared to other auditing products where it's just text and framework definitions.

**What do you dislike about Vanta?**

I find the comment section a little difficult to get to. It's not too bad, but it would be easier if comments were more easily visible and easier to get through. Right now, it takes like two or three clicks to get to the right comment if you're going through the GUI. It would be faster if we could access it a lot quicker, maybe by having a section for updated comments and treating those as a task list.

**What problems is Vanta solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Vanta to track what's needed during audits and make sure everything is kept on the same page. It also helps track vulnerabilities, ensuring our tools leverage the same telemetry effectively.

Some links in between modules are still weak, and some info you enter will never be fully used, like the owners in the Inventory. A few main integrations are not working great when it comes to scoping resources,
