Regarding the content age, I would recommend trying the Recency sort or Time filters to ensure you are seeing the newest content first.

Once your 30-day trial of the Professional Plan ends, you can downgrade to the free plan that allows you to create one topic that's free forever. As for the Professional Plan, we do offer a discount for those who pay once a year upfront ($100 annually, instead of $10/mo), giving you one free month. We hear you about sometimes the content source doesn't quite work as expected and we'll definitely take that information to Hootsuite and see what there is we can do.
