We have Kaseya VSA and UniView, which appear to do the same functions but are completely separate applications. **What problems is Unitrends Backup and Recovery solving and how is that benefiting you?** Unitrends is backing up our M365. Microsoft advertises that users need their own backups and Unitrends solves that issue in an efficient way. We can create new users in M365 and they are automatically added to our backups. ### 4. We can also very easily retrieve lost or deleted files. Unitrends is by far the easiest and most reliable backup product I have ever used. We also have their DRASS and its a great service and fulfills all of our off site disaster recovery requirements. I setup all of our schedules and the appliance, I receive emails every morning that are backups were successful with reports and we periodically test our backups. Support has been very responsive when needed and deployment was as simple as getting the agent installed and pairing to the appliance, then configuring the SLA and letting the automated processes take over from there. **What do you dislike about Unitrends Backup and Recovery?** At this time, there have been no real downsides apart from needing to make space in our racks for the appliances, which was mostly an issue with managing the transition from the existing solution and decommissioning the existing solution's hardware. **What problems is Unitrends Backup and Recovery solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our previous solution was based on both Tape library and NAS and required manually taking tapes off-site as well as managing archival libraries to maintain compliance. With the Unitrends system, offsite and archival processes are handled based on schedule and automatically performed by the scheduled jobs, eliminating extra steps and the potential for missed off-site transport or possible loss or damage of tape media during off-site transport and rotation. ### 8. We it comes to the information we receive from techs, it widely varies from tech to tech. VM backups also work very well. Jobs are easy to setup. Options for archaving are good as well with options like Wasabis S3 for low cost option. Support is very responsive as well **What do you dislike about Unitrends Backup and Recovery?** Pricing can be a bit tricky since it's based on the storage capacity instead of hardware specs so low storage models have fairly weak hardware specs. Backup resource requirements were double industry standards, resulting in a larger-than-expected footprint. Although the configuration GUI was functional, restoring a VM required the exact same OS on the host server, posing significant logistical and/or financial challenges for test environments or those with multiple OS editions. We never got WORM to operate correctly despite assistance from product support. The limitations led us to opt for an alternative product due to poor implementation and failed recovery tests. **What problems is Unitrends Backup and Recovery solving and how is that benefiting you?** Unitrends Backup & Recovery offerred a lower-cost comparable alternative to an industry leader, unfortunately it didn't operate as expected ultimately bringing us no benefit or value. **Official Response from Adam Marget:** > Hello there! Best practice for having an on-site backup is nice. The ability to export to eternal and/or cloud upload rounds out the whole best-practice scenario. I would prefer better pricing and additional 3rd-party integration for Cloud backup. The interface has been improving but still could be simplified/more intuitive for schedule configuration. The only competitor that I have used aside from Unitrends is Iperius which works, but Unitrends seems to provide a solution that scales acoss many devices. **What do you dislike about Unitrends Backup and Recovery?** I did have an instance in which a Microsoft Update completely "lost" the location of the server drives. The tech I worked with at Unitrends about a baremetal recovery didn't seem to be the most helpful. Not sure if he was a newby or not, but was a scenario in which he made me nervous about this proocess. Fortunately the issue was resolved after a couple days of work with M$crosoft. **What problems is Unitrends Backup and Recovery solving and how is that benefiting you?** Very automated system that seems to just run without a lot of tending to. Creating backups, checking if they peformed and recovery is intuitive. Unitrends does have some decent help articles just in case! Support from Unitrends is usually quick and gets the situation in order! Finally, and a huge thing to consider if you are not using it is cloud replication. Not only does this help protect you incase of appliance failure or worse, ransomware attack that they would be able to wipe all your backup data. But in case of a catastrophic failure, Unitrends can spin up critical servers in the cloud and get you back up and running! **What do you dislike about Unitrends Backup and Recovery?** The sales team can be very very agressive. If you are coming up for renewal, renew quickly otherwise expect daily calls requesting renewal. Note that while your backups will continue to run, you will no longer be able to update the appliance and possibly no longer get cloud backups. **What problems is Unitrends Backup and Recovery solving and how is that benefiting you?** Unitrends did help in recovering critical data a variaty of times. Some of it was user caused, some system outage and others due to outside forces. But Unitrends did come through. It would have been nice to have a little extra hand-holdings on some of the more critical recoveries, but I was able to resolve all issues thus far. ### 46. Features like deduplication are included and didn't require extra licensing. You have options for schedules and GFS backups or letting the appliance manage retention settings automatically. During the initial deployment or shortly after an issue required support to resolve which was handled in a relatively quick and professional manner to activate the licensing. **What do you dislike about Unitrends Backup and Recovery?** Acquired the application under a promotional license that I wasn't able to restore, despite contacting support. Migrated to another solution. Depending on the deployment, copying backups to removable media isn't an option without a workaround. In my case, I created a fixed VHD on the removable storage. UEB prefers to sync to a secondary backup appliance. **What problems is Unitrends Backup and Recovery solving and how is that benefiting you?** While there are several backup solutions available for SMBs, UEB provided a managed backup for endpoints under a single pain of glass. This solution worked well and the price was free up to a storage quota. ### 47. Also like the fact that it is running Linux which is still more secure than Windows OS. Finally, I like being able to contact support that I have no problem understanding. **What do you dislike about Unitrends Backup and Recovery?** There are a few things that need improvement. While Vmware is still king, they need to do better about the way they interface with Hyper-V. Another issue is recovery process can be a little cumbersome and take longer than it really should. I would also say they need to resolve issues with cleaning up space from expired backups. Every few months I have to manually go back and delete old backups that should be getting removed by the retension policy. Finally, while the support engineers speak english well and can help in a lot of things, there have been a number of issues I just simply never got resolutions for, and never heard back from the higher level support and engineers. **What problems is Unitrends Backup and Recovery solving and how is that benefiting you?** Simply backing up and restoring data is really all I'm using this system for at this time.
