I tried setting the values in appsettings but it doesnt seem to work. The upside is that i'm a Student and i didn't hear about Umbraco till i started my Internship in a company. So the advertising for Students could be better. **What do you dislike about Umbraco?** The learning curve is a little bit hard at the beginning. When i started to learn Umbraco at my own it seemed impossible at the beginning, but i hold on :) Maybe the tutorial videos should get more shown in Umbraco because i didnt know them at the beginning **What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?** When you know how to work with Umbraco it is very simple to change something in the backend fast. I've found Umbraco to be the best, most user-friendly CMS on the market. Built on Microsoft technologies, Umbraco is the perfect choice for any ASP.NET developer. Setting up an Umbraco project is easy. It's possible to get going with a blank installation in as little as five minutes. As a developer, setting up templates, document types, and data types couldn't be easier. It's this aspect of Umbraco that I like the most. Umbraco gives you access to various customisable data types, such as text boxes, rich (WYSIWYG) text editors, media pickers, and nested content editors. These can all be used in a single document type to create a rich, intuitive editing experience for your client or marketing team. From a coding perspective, document templates are entirely painless to set up. You insert your document properties into your HTML/Razor code wherever you want them to appear, as you would with model data in any other ASP.NET project. It's possible to build up complex but user-friendly editing experiences quickly. In my experience, every single editor I have worked with has found the Umbraco CMS easy to use and has picked it up quickly. Umbraco offers handy, built-in tools for localisation, amongst other things, so it's always my first choice for any new project. I always take the time to assess whether I can use Umbraco when taking on a new project. It's not fit for everything. In my experience, it's not an excellent choice for particularly data-heavy and content-light websites. Some websites will always require a fully-bespoke solution. However, when Umbraco is the right fit, there's no tool better. As an editor, Umbraco is highly user-friendly and has only improved over the years since I first used Umbraco 6, years ago. My project partner, who has no experience in website development or publishing, finds Umbraco very easy to use and requires very little hand-holding from me. I actively use Umbraco for several projects, both in and out of work, including one in development. I run everything from a letting agency website to a webcomic on Umbraco, and for content-focused websites, it has never once let me down. **What do you dislike about Umbraco?** As someone who prefers to learn through reading rather than asking questions on community forums, I have found Umbraco's documentation lacking sometimes. Without logging onto the forums and asking questions, finding out how to do things in Umbraco can be difficult. Googling for help results in forum posts that are at least five years and many Umbraco versions out of date. Accessible online tutorials/training for Umbraco are harder to come by than for other content management systems. Whilst I'm comfortable with it now, learning how to use Umbraco for some of my more complex requirements has been an exercise in trial and error. With that said, Umbraco's documentation covers the basics (including how to use the various properties within the page templates) exceptionally well. I have found in the past, upon the release of new versions, that it can take the documentation a little time to catch up, but this is always rectified eventually. I only have limited experience with Umbraco Cloud - a work client opted to use it for two of their websites, which we built and maintained for a while - but I did not find this fit for purpose. The websites used to go offline frequently, even though nobody was working on them. We had to log in to the client's Umbraco Cloud account and initiate an environment restart to get them back online. I strongly recommend the open-source, self-hosted approach, for which Umbraco is fantastic. **What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Umbraco to provide my clients/editors with easy-to-use, intuitive editing experiences that provide as much flexibility over every page as possible. I've yet to find a tool that does this better than Umbraco. As an ASP.NET developer, Umbraco slots perfectly into my workflow, and it's always my first choice when working with content-heavy websites. ### 4. The free/open-source licencing makes it extremely accessible while the additional licenced offerings offer value for money. The backoffice is user-friendly & fast for content editors which the Settings are simple and flexible for Developers. **What do you dislike about Umbraco?** Load balancing infrastructure recommendations could use some modernisation- having a dedicated "frontend" & "backoffice" deployment feels unnecessary when cloud hosts offer autoscaling. In the past, I thought Umbraco was slower to adopt than other platforms. Support for .net core & linux too patience. There was also a tendency to use obscure/less universal dependencies like LightInject, PetaPoco, ClientDependency etc. Thankfully recent releases have adopted Microsoft.Extensions for DI, Logging etc. **What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?** Umbraco offers a broad range of capabilities out of the box with fantastic multilingual support, solid user authentication and management and easy to manage content. ### 9. I felt in love with Umbraco back in 2009 when I helped a team to build a website CMS based, and Umbraco was in its firsts stages. I had to work with XSLT, and I felt it was so easy, as it had all the parts splitted: Programming, design, content management, admin. Today, Umbraco is a full .NET Core application, state of art, with a modern design, still friendly and easy to use. **What do you dislike about Umbraco?** As a mature platform, it would be nice to have more add-ons. Also training / certification is too expensive. **What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?** As I said before, there is a clear separation of roles in Umbraco, and you can give these roles to users. Also the fact that the platform is free to use, helps a lot. I worked with several other CMS platforms and they were either expensive or very hard to use. I already left a Job because of their CMS system, which was very expensive and the customer support was bad. Having used Kentico and Wordpress in the past, this is by far the least complex. Best community too! **What do you dislike about Umbraco?** I'd love to be more part of the community by attending Codegarden. But due to the location and ticket prices, unless you've got a wealthy company backing there's no chance to getting to the largest Umbraco event of the year. Local meet ups and Umbraco Together is the best I can afford. **What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?** It helps for a quick turnaround time and creates consistency throughout projects. I've built websites for large corporations with country sites across the world. I've made tools that allow content users to upload csv files of data, and create articles with charts using that data. Really, there's nothing I can't do with Umbraco. **What do you dislike about Umbraco?** I haven't found one yet. I'm not so sure the block grid editor is going to be that useful. I think it'll add too much complexity, and confuse content users. It also means there's more edge cases to test for. But it's not like you have to use it. **What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?** For me, the block lists editor has been a major improvement, and moving to .net core has been great. Anything that makes Umbraco faster to load has been welcomed, plus small things like improved logs, usync is a brilliant. ### 24. The back office experience can be very tailored to suit the client's requirements. This means that there is no confusion that can exist in the more generic cms like WordPress. **What do you dislike about Umbraco?** Up until now it's been the upgraded path but I understand this has become a lot easier since version 9. Organizing the image library is convenient because I get to control image crops, file names, and alt text all on one page. I also like that SEO descriptions, meta tags, keywords are easy to view when building pages. **What do you dislike about Umbraco?** The big idea is there but it falls short with the design details. Attempting to tweak code is more difficult than other CMS platforms I've used in the past. I wasn't able to figure out how to wrap text against an image. It took me a while to figure out how to use the copy and paste clipboard, and the correct order to format text to an anchor link. I don't like that I have to manually guess the dimensions for images when I place them in a two-column WYSIWYG block. The dimensions I choose would look great on the desktop, but horribly larger than the screen on mobile. **What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?** It gives us more tools to build exciting pages. ### 29. I have been using their software for over 4 years nows. **What do you dislike about Umbraco?** With it being fully customizable compared with other CMSs, it can be a little difficult to figure out how to use from the beginning. Sometimes I still have issues figure out how to set up and add certain features we would like to have on our website. It being open and fully customizable has made the opportunities endless on how custom you would like your website to be.
