I like the split screen option (2 or more files open side by side).

UltraEdit deftly handles different character encoding and line endings from files across platforms. Column editing mode, and multiple cursor mode, are unique and powerful ways to edit blocky code. UltraEdit takes about 2 to 3 seconds to load after launch. Not bad, though I wish it was faster. Also, occassionally it will not open, and I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL and find it in my task manager to end an invisible instance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Over fifteen years ago, when I was just starting my career, I found out about UltraEdit. I had been looking for something that easily functioned in Column Mode. It does, and it has so many other features I have been relying upon for fifteen years. I purchased an unlimited license (it hurt early on) and I still don't regret it. Also, it blows away all the other Mac text editors out there (I know because I tried them before UE was on a Mac). It's one of the pieces of software that I have to have for work and play.
