I run a behavioural science lab at a major British university. We are a platform for research studies with human participants for all of the social science disciplines (e.g. economics, psychology, politics, language, etc) and many others (e.g. health, sports medicine, etc.).
Until Tremendous, we had been using cash for our research payments, which is a lot of work you have to collect it, you have to count it, you have to distribute it, you have to REcount it. The best thing about Tremendous is I will never have to fill our safe again. Participants like it because our entire university is already cash-less and they'd prefer to spend their money digitally.
This was an easy sell to our university, because the platform doesn't collect any payment details. No account creation. Just a name, email, and award amount.
On the backend, it also makes my admin dead-easy. Before, we lived in a world of manually entering counts, having my ops team manually entering their own counts and payment records, and collecting physical receipts. Now, I get one simple interface that I can filter by date, by researcher, by study, and get just what I need for our financial records.

Switiching to Tremendous has not been without its growing pains. One major sticking point for participants has been confusion over where digital VISAs can and cannot be used, with some reporting repeated declined transactions. This is despite our numerous warnings. That said, if you're in a position to enable PayPal as an option, many may choose to eat the 6% fee for the convenience.
Other issues relate to the changing and reissuing of rewards. We cannot help our participants once a reward has been claimed, and perhaps more irksome, we cannot change the email address it has been sent to once received. Our participants have multiple addresses (usually a personal and a uni address) and sometimes confuse things and mix and match them. It'd be nice to be able to correct this for them, but Tremendous support usually sorts them out quickly enough, so it's a minor issue in the bigger picture. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
