## Trados Reviews
  ### 1. Trados is a great tool to work with, simple for one and one project without further education.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Guðrún C. E. | Translator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Trados?**

It is simple to use when doing one and one projects. You don't need to learn much to get started. When you get more experienced with Trados, then you see how the memories can be helpful. The view you are working in is straightforward, and you can work with each sentence step by step.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

I'm not sure I dislike anything, but I would recommend new users to look at the webinars. I have not yet done that myself, but I'm always on my way to do it in order to improve my skills with Trados. I'm sure I could use Trados more efficiently if I knew how to do it, for example, when using terms in different fields.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I think the use of memories is the most significant benefit for me—also, the possibility of using different formats and import into the program. And when I
have finished the translation, to export again into the same format, as I imported it from.

  ### 2. SDL Trados Studio Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 24, 2021

**What do you like best about Trados?**

It is an all-around computer-assisted translation tool with many features. It provides consistency and pace, especially in big translation/localization projects.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

SLD Trados' interface can be quite complicated, even overwhelming at some points. The translation screen is accompanied by many other side windows that sometimes hinder doing your task.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SDL Trados' termbase is one of a kind. Depending on the project, you can manually change the termbase preferences and tell the program what to do or what not do with repetitions, fuzzy matches etc.

  ### 3. Convenience for translators

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Trados?**

The wording database and translation memory are helpful and make translation quicker than ever. Especially for technical documents where wordings and phases are similar.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Design and UI are not user-friendly. It will take some time to learn how to use this software. However, for the free version, it will take long time to build the database.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Translation is faster with high consistency and accuracy. The phases are broken down smaller, and Trados suggested translation and percentage of matching among phases, which will make translation faster.

  ### 4. مترجم من الإنجليزية إلى العربية

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tasneem H. | Freelance Translator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2021

**What do you like best about Trados?**

From my experience with SDL tools, I like how it makes big projects easier while it has features to work on different file formats.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

I think the most annoying thing is Tags and how they affect the text.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

I recommend using SDL Trados GroupShare to increase productivity and quality of projects.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Restaurar archivos largos y antiguos, también crear bases de términos para mantener la consistencia.

  ### 5. The most user-friendly translation tool that I have been using for over 7 years.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2021

**What do you like best about Trados?**

Efficient Searching, Easy access to TMs, Changing segment status helping to understand whether there must be work done on the segment, very very user-friendly program. I have worked on my apps and tools (including online ones), but Trados is the best.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Sometimes it is difficult to find the initially saved segment in the concordance search. And the 70% saved segments are not very helpful.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

Enter the official website to find tips and treicks on how to use SDL Trados.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The information saved in Trados and the return packages created after the work is done are extremely helpful for submitting a full and complete work so that the client is satisfied and has all the details needed. That's for the whole description. As for my business, Trados is a tool that most companies work with, so having Trados and knowing how to use it, brings more and more clients.

  ### 6. Translation for beginers

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 25, 2022

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I liked first of all its interface, nice and ease to use.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

I didn't like the cost, I found it quite expensive.

I can work from my laptop, my phone or my tablet.

  ### 7. A must-have for any serious linguists

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 07, 2021

**What do you like best about Trados?**

Comprehensive solutions for translators. It's a must if you want to work with great customers.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Interfaces can be a little clunky. There are times when you can't find what you need and you have to dig deep in their plethora of menus.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

You cannot go wrong with SDL Trados Studio. Alternatively, you might consider memoQ instead.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

You can accept tasks from serious customers and get great income. It also improves your productivity by their TMs and Termbases.

  ### 8. A translation challenge facilitated by Trados

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer & Network Security | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Trados?**

What I liked about TRADOS was the parallel interface in which there could be a live realisation, correction of the texts translated to improve efficiency and accuracy

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

What I disliked about Trados was the necessity to convert documents in limited formats before starting and the fact that no support was given in terms of translation, but only human input needed. This characteristic is positive for mother tongue language experts but challenging for who is not native.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Thanks to SDL Trados I was able to translate long and complex technical documents having all the words there in one place, so to never lose the focus, allowing to completey work faster

  ### 9. One of the best CAT tools out there

I used to tool to provide translations for my clients

  ### 10. Great software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marko M. | Translator/Supervisor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2021

**What do you like best about Trados?**

Fast translation of terms and structures.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

The interface is too complicated for beginners.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

It will help with uniformity and consistency. Translators have more time to think about more creative/correct solutions when the software does the automatic translations for them.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Consistent terminology and uniform translations.

  ### 11. Cutting-Edge Integrated Translation Solutions with Learning Curve and Legacy Compatibility Issues

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katya R. | Voice User Interface Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Trados?**

SDL Trados Studio 2021 integrates neural machine learning, term base management, translation memory, source document format retainment and excellent review tools. My favorite part of Studio is the comprehensive review process with the ability to export a side-by-side document for bilingual review for colleagues who don't have the software, and the easy-to-understand system of translation draft, confirmed translation, corrections and review tools including spellcheck and a QA suite that checks for translation consistency, punctuation, and grammar. As a translator of 14 years, I love that modern translation management software, including Trados, retains all formatting and allows you to save the target translation in the format of your choice while retaining source document formatting.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

As a first-time translation software user, I didn't have my own term bases, so I tried to add public term bases from the Trados app store to SDL Trados 2021. They were not compatible. I've conducted informal polls of colleagues, and it appears that some users have been able to make this work, but I haven't seen any proof, and have heard that other users have had similar problems using legacy files in the 2021 version. These colleagues opted to revert to earlier versions, but this isn't an option for someone like me for whom this is their first. Also, I find it a bit ridiculous that the support contract costs extra. The basic installation support available with the $375 yearly subscription is impersonal, riddled with sales pitches and not terribly helpful.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SDL Trados allows me to save time by pre-translating previously translated segments, offering suggestions with neural machine translation and SDL Language Cloud (texts previously translated by others) predictive translations, allowing me to easily send a bilingual file for review to a colleague who doesn't have the same software and allowing me to retain the same format. It also allows for effective auto-organization of source and target translation and review files on my computer.

  ### 12. I use to work with Trados while translating, I recommend it.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

I actually like the program, including the graphical interface

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

I recommend this program in order to solve translation problems and improve the translation

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I solved translation problems in finding full or fuzzy matches while translating

  ### 13. It was a pleasant experience using Trados which eases my translation tasks

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

The app being a subscription-based app is stopping many from using

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

It is indeed highly recommended

Retranslating is so much solved. The benefits are much to explain

  ### 14. SDL opinion

grammatical santance

  ### 16. Very helpful tool for translation.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 03, 2021

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I like the translation memory. It is beneficial for the translators.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Tags Placing should be fixed. It isn't enjoyable sometimes.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am not sure.

  ### 17. Use It When Needed Only

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Artyom R. | Editor-in-chief, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2020

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I like that the most translation agencies use this software. You can master this software and forget about others, as you will be receiving orders mostly in Trados SDL packages. It has a lot of functions, including auto-suggest, translation memory management, and glossary management.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Its interface is bulky and not very user-friendly. It crashes sometimes. Don't forget to save, so not to lose your data. It is also very expensive. You can find cheaper options on the market, especially if you are not going to use all of its features.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

SDL Trados Studio is the most powerful tool you have for translation. No other can compete with it in terms of function. Still, it has some technical issues and bulky interface, but it is a great option for professional translators.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use SDL Trados for Trados packages that are sent by my clients. They appreciate working with Trados, and sometimes we use server databases for translation memories and glossaries, that are only accesed via trados.

  ### 18. Industry-leading Translation and Terminology Software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sébastien Heyward B. | Translation Services Supervisor and Multilingual Translator, Fr.-Eng.-Spa., Sports, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

After getting used to the complicated interface and jargon, the software is very efficient, customizable, and a remarkable translation and terminology resource. By all accounts the industry standard. The company has a multitude of helpful apps, and launches interesting products and updates quite regularly. Visually, the website layout is very appealing.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Trados is complex to get used to and requires a significant amount of training. Less computer-savvy translators may find the learning curb steep. The interface can be small and too cluttered. The corporate training sessions we purchased were clear, but a lot of information to ingest all at once. Furthermore, Trados uses a lot of jargon (Termbase, Multiterm, TU, TM, etc.). I had several issues with activating the licence, and had to request technical help (quickly solved issue). The website can be hard to navigate, given the amount of apps and information.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

Be prepared to spend a long time getting used to the interface. Ask many questions if you get the introductory sessions. Mastering the system takes a while. Take time to master the basics (translation and alignment), and then move to the more complex operations (glossary importation). The explanation videos, support team and online resources are very helpful. Allow for plenty of RAM for the system to work at full capacity.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My department is implementing Trados to automatize our processes, accelerate the translations of template documents, archive translations and improve terminological consistency. Benefits will include time and cost savings, when implementation is completed.

  ### 19. Lack of free support doesn't helps

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2020

**What do you like best about Trados?**

This tool has great attributes that helps to translate everywhere.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Lack of free support gives a less confidence.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Documents translation

  ### 20. A disaster

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 07, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

From one hand, the software is useful. Translation memories and glossaries work as intended. Most of the times, at least. If your PM sends you a package, chances are good that you're not going to have too much of headaches.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Trados creates more problems than what it is useful for. A lot of times there is something that doesn't work. Or when you did your whole task and when you try and export your file, it gives an error. Error messages most of the times serve no purposes. Some of the procedures are the same from the early 00s, thus severely outdated. Moreover, the software is terribly expansive. Nowadays software tends to cost much less and/or come with a monthly subscription. It would be much better for the final user to have a €9,99 monthly subscription.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

If you can, use another CAT Tool. Moreover, it's terribly expansive.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The TM and glossaries work rather well, it helped me in many translation tasks. However, there are better tools and I generally advise against the use of Trados.

  ### 21. Great platform to help speed up the process and improve the quality of translation work!

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Religious Institutions | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2019

**Describe the project or task Trados helped with:**

It has helped our teams be more consistent with terminology. It has also helped in that there are very little resources / dictionaries in the Micronesian languages. This has helped us begin to create that for us.

**What do you like best about Trados?**

The ease of use and implementation within our teams.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Occasionally there are times the program runs a little slower.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have improved our effectiveness and consistency with repeated translations.

  ### 22. Good but not the best

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2019

**Describe the project or task Trados helped with:**

It's a helpful tool for sending translations for the localization team.

**What do you like best about Trados?**

It's intuitive. You can insert all your requests in one, even with the required deadline. The latest version need a XML file.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

You can't know where the work prorogress is while you're are waiting. And I don't like working with excel file if you have a lot of texts and translations.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Is a good way to organize the work for translations.

  ### 23. THE industry standard, fully featured, some stability issues

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

Best glossary tool I've used thus far with auto-insertion of matching terms. Strong QA function with spell check, punctuation check, numbers check and terminology check. Extremely powerful conversion and auto-import of PDF files. Interface to web servers with cloud-based TMs and glossaries. Quick project set-up and very powerful project configuration options.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Some stability problems: Studio will crash if you use the wrong combination of keystrokes (return followed by a quick delete). Also, Studio sometimes refuses to generate new files due to obscure errors that require deep IT knowledge to understand, so it's necessary to have a back-up CAT tool for these situations.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

It opens up the largest number of doors with agency clients. However, it's best to have another CAT tool as a backup solution in case Studio doesn't generate a final document.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fast turnaround of projects. Cost savings for clients. Terminology and translation consistency. Pre-delivery quality assurance. Glossary development and building to retain valuable subject-matter knowledge.

  ### 24. Trados saves you time

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caner K. | Content Producer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 21, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

When the text you're translating has repeating phrases or if you translate similar texts all the time, SDL Trados can save you time by offering exact or similar matches from translation memories. It makes collaborating easier when you share your translation memory with a fellow translator and the results are more cohesive.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

I usually like the features of the program but the menus can be more streamlined and elevated to a look that is relevant in 2018. Sometimes it's a little slow to work with depending on your computer specs. The price of the program for freelance translators can be a little lower as well.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

SDL Trados Studio makes translating tedious texts and projects easier and better. If you are translating texts with repeating words, phrases, and sentences and would like to collaborate on translations with other translators SDL Trados Studio is the product for you. It's an investment to save time and money in the long run.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Most technical translations have repeating phrases and Trados makes it easier to translate these. So you save time by skipping translating the same words and sentences. It also makes collaborating on a long translation easier with a fellow translator. You can constantly share your translation memory with a colleague and make translating even more easier. The target text is usually more cohesive when two translators work on one text and the same translation memory.

  ### 25. Very good, but there's still room for improvement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ekaterina B. | Certified Translator and Interpreter, Translation and Localization, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

Trados is an essential tool for this business. It increases productivity and is a door opener when doing business with big clients.
The new UpLift capability is wonderful. Fragment matches have saved me so much time!

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

I believe some of the new changes introduced by SDL to Trados 2017/2019 don't work quite as expected or desired, perhaps. SDL needs to consider those of us who have extremely big (1,500,000+ TUs) translation memories. Also, I think that 16 GB of RAM memory being considered "optimal" is a bit ludicrous.
- While UpLift is great, updating extremely large translation memories takes DAYS, during which the software is completely at a standstill (luckily, I have 2 licenses, so I can use my other computer). My computer has 16 GB of RAM memory and Trados is set as a priority, so I know my computer is not what is causing this.
- MatchRepair takes so long to bring back a result that I had to turn it off. It's faster for me to edit that one word by hand. I didn't use it enough to know whether the results were accurate or not.
- Lookahead seems like a great idea, but it certainly does not work. While its purpose was to save time, when there are 2 segments and the newest one is a better match, it recalls the oldest one anyway. A complete waste of time, since I can't even find the newest one.
- Automatic alignment also takes too long. I have it turned off.
- Your priority right now should be a good translation memory EDITOR! It's ridiculous that we have to manually delete duplicated entries.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

Learn how to work the settings in your favor. The default settings don't work for everyone, so don't be discouraged if at the beginning it doesn't seem to help an awful lot. It will.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Terminology consistency is a must in our business. Trados helps me verify that all my terms are consistent in different translations for the same provider. Customizable QA checks are an important benefit as well! I am not satisfied with any less than perfect.

  ### 26. Great software for long term recurring projects

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Philip J. | Technical Japanese Interpreter/Translator, Automotive, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

Auto-suggest is a life-saver. Easily cuts my workload in half, as much of my work has recurring terms and expressions. Also does a great job exporting back into Office formats while maintaining the original formatting.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Sometimes a bit sluggish when dealing with massive termbases, and there are occasional bugs, like freezing when you lock in a segment. I also wish there were more flexibility with the interface, as I'd like to have more control over what elements are displayed where.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

Try out some freeware solutions and be sure to take advantage of the trial period before buying. Some people on forums report issues with freezing, etc., that seem to be still unresolved, so hopefully your system configuration allows everything to work without incident.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Translation of Japanese>English engineering documents, and technical reports. Great for ensuring consistency across team of internal translators and outside language service vendors. We are also able to use different project templates to optimize our workflow for the different departments that we serve, such as accounting or manufacturing.

  ### 27. SDL Trados reviewI

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I like the fact that it makes it easy to translate efficiently and quickly. The fact that is it presented like a bitext It also makes it easy to not skip a line and follow the text.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

I dislike the fact that is it complicated to use.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has allowed me to increase my daily productivity and my focus.

  ### 28. Interface difficult to learn but invaluable for translation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

The translation memories are the most useful and the way the source texts are divided.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

The user interface takes a long time to get used to.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

Looks for offers online before purchasing to save money. The direct offers for students and graduates are very good.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I translated for years just using Microsoft Word and Trados Studio has saved me so much time. Billingual review is much easier.

  ### 29. An Industry Giant That Could Use A Few UI Improvements

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebecca G. | MA Candidate — Localization, Translation and Localization, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

As one of the premier translation services out there, as well as one of the most longstanding, Trados has secured its longterm relevancy on the market. Knowing how to use Trados is a big step into branching out to other tools, and its UI has been a starting point for many services that have followed after it.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

My main issue with Trados is its maze-like UI. Navigating its interface can be a trial-and-error nightmare, and many of its most useful tools are buried behind menu after menu.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With my instructor's guidance to help navigate the frustrating UI, Trados has still proven itself to be a good starting ground for me to learn CAT tool functionalities that will better prepare me for future job opportunities.

  ### 30. Powerful software, could be more user-friendly

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eva B. | Traductrice Anglais-Français, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 17, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

SDL Trados Studio has many powerful features that help me to work more efficiently as a translator. It is easy to create a project and use translation memories and term bases. I like that I can estimate the length of a project with the analysis tool.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

The interface is anything but user-friendly, and it takes long internet researches to learn how to do anything new on the software. It is sometimes unnecessarily complex.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SDL Trados Studio allows me to translate faster and more efficiently. As many agencies see the use of this software as a sign of professionalism, it has also enabled me to start new collaborations.

  ### 31. I am a freelance translator and occasionally use SDL Trados Studio 2014 SP2.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lilach C. | Contract Translator - Freelance Hebrew/Spanish/English, Non-Profit Organization Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 01, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I tried other CAT tools like MemoQ and found them useful, though each platform was slightly different. I decided to go with SDL Trados Studio 2014 SP2 since it had a good interface, editing, terminology and project management tools and was user-friendly. It has good translation memory (TM) which makes translations smoother when I work on similar files. There are newer versions available for purchase.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

There were some issues with certain file types and there were errors that popped up while opening this CAT tool at first. Installation and operation took longer than expected and there were some glitches though it worked out fine.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a freelance translator I work on multiple projects and deadlines. The SDL Trados Studio project management tool helps me keep track and work efficiently and meet deadlines. I save my work in dedicated folders instead of default folders to keep track until delivery date.

  ### 32. Excellent product overall for translation professionals

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 27, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I appreciate the speed and customisability - compared with an alternative programme that I have used, Trados is much more flexible and gives the translator much more freedom to decide how they want to approach the job at hand. Terminology and translation memories are easy to integrate, which makes life easier for the translator.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Trados seems to periodically suffer from bugs which cause the programme to shut down unexpectedly. I have mitigated this by enabling auto-save more frequently, but ideally this would not happen at all. I used to enjoy the fact that the target file preview was generated in Microsoft Word, but it now comes out in the user-unfriendly WordPad which cannot be uninstalled from Windows 10 - meaning, as a result, that time is wasted manually saving and opening each preview to grammar-check and proof-read in Word. SDL could improve this by allowing the user to decide the default preview file format in the Options menu.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

If you have not previously used CAT tools, SDL Trados will make your life as a professional translator significantly easier by saving time and allowing you to build memories and termbases that will come in useful for future projects, ensuring greater consistency. If you have previously used CAT tools, Trados may offer more flexibility, greater ease of use and a wider range of customisation options via apps, settings and features -- as well as being more widely used, in general, by translation agencies which is a business plus-point in and of itself.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The business advantages of Trados are that it saves time, makes omissions much less unlikely compared with working directly in a word processor, means formatting is rarely if ever a worry, and can be easily packaged for review by another professional.

  ### 33. Not worth the high price

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

You don't miss any sentences, and you get the occasional matches.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

It's not straightforward, their previous way not so expensive version worked just fine. It does not really speed up my translations as the previous version did. Their icons are minuscule. You need a magnifying glass to decipher what to click to exit, save, etc. I had complained about this but they did nothing of course.... Their online training seminars were lame, and I did not get much out of them....

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

Nothing to recommend except that the prior versions were very easy and helpful. Not Studio.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No problems solved. Can't think of any benefits. Just paid a lot of money because clients are using it. I am a freelance translator and work for several translation agencies in Europe and the US. I am not an in-house translator working for only one company.

  ### 34. Great software

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

It is a great and fast software, I have used it in my job as translator.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

The fact that sometimes it is impossibile to charge files. Also every year comes out a different edition, always more pricey than the year before

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

It is very useful

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allowed me to translate very fast

  ### 35. CAT Tool Trados Studio

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jennifer W. | Social Media Content Editor (part-time), Translation and Localization, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

Trados Studio is easy to use and can deal with a lot of different file types, which speeds up the entire process tremendously.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

It does have some bugs; when the program freezes for some reason, the percentage display (amount of text translated) may never update to the correct number again.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

It is the market leader for good reason. Even though it is expensive to purchase, it is very much worth it. And the purchased version can be used for many years, so you do not have to buy the newest version every year.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for my day-to-day translation work and it speeds up my process, also thanks to the Translation Memory.

  ### 36. It's a business standard of the language service industry, but there's room for improvement

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cheng-Hao Y. | Translation/Localization Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

SDL Trados is like the mother of all the CAT tools out there in the market. If you can learn how to use Trados properly, then that means that you're not likely going to run into any other problems when learning other CAT tools out there. Plus, it's what everyone uses in the industry, it would be beneficial if you can have the common skills in this industry.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Since there're so many features on the interface, it can be really hard to understand how to make use of each feature for beginners. In my opinion, Trados can use some improvements to simplifying some of its features or at least make those features simple and self-explanatory for the users like MemoQ.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Like I said before, Trados is the origin of all CAT tools out there. After getting through the growing pain of learning it, you're going to become a master of the other CAT tools out there because more often than not, they're like the simplified or perhaps improved version of Trados. When working with different LSPs, you might need to work with different CAT tools as well. Some people without the solid training with Trados might need to start from the beginning of learning how to use it, but for most Trados users, it's just the same tools with a tiny difference in most occasions.
As my professor put it, "If you can master Trados, you basically conquer every CAT tools out there."

  ### 37. Very reliable productivity and terminology management tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marta A. | Freelance Spanish/English Translator; Spanish Writer; Multilingual DTP, Translation and Localization, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

With Trados, our translation team was able to achieve the highest level of consistency in terminology with the lowest level of time invested in other means to accomplish it. We were able to get rid of endless hours and meetings for terminology review and discussion. Instead we were able to translate and increase our output. Our number of request increases exponentially while our turnaround time was reduced. We went from being able to send our translations in three weeks to reliably meeting our requester needs in 2-3 days. That way we were able to free resources for other organizational neeeds like interpretation and translation in other languages.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Lack of compatibility with MS Piblisher and google documents. It added time and steps to the translation process when we had to convert those format to Trados compatible formats.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

After adding Trados as a tool for our team, were able to improve the work flow among same language team members and external agency translators and reduce the use of "zombie" documents in the organization (different translated versions of the same document and older translated versions of updated English versions). We stablished practices that required requesters of translation to always send documents to us before publishing. By checking against our TMs we were able to caught small edits to English documents that the "owners" of the English were not always aware that had happened. In the past, the use of those documents had created legal and compliance issues. We were able to almost completely eliminate those occurrences and reduce the amount of time dedicated to problem solve those issues.

  ### 38. It is a good program but a frustrating experience

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I love features like the option to align documents, the pre-translate option and the tools I can create for myself as well as the many customization options. I also like the language cloud option because it helps me think and work even though the results are far from being satisfactory.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

It takes forever to learn the program and when technical problems arise (happens frequently!) you are left to deal with it on your own, or you are forced to pay a hefty price for the technical support. It is an investment that translators need to make, but the price for additional features can add up quickly. Some formats do not work properly. I have to take additional steps to prepare documents before I can use them with SDL or otherwise content is lost. Customer service and the website require improvement. I would like to use some more of the plugins but learning how to do that costs time.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

Just investing in the purchase of this program is not enough. You also have to invest a lot of time to learn all its features and deal with bugs and issues by yourself. Once you have mastered the program, it is a very useful tool. I would recommend to anyone who thinks about purchasing a license to compare SDL to other programs, too. Other CAT tools offer some of the same features but are more user-friendly and cheaper. Yes, SDL is the industry standard but you have to ask yourself if you really need it.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to work on my translations. SDL Trados Studio has many advantages and features that other CAT tools do not offer. Knowing how to use it can set you apart from the crowd and attract new customers. I like the customization options, which are important for terminology management (here in connection with MultiTerm).

  ### 39. Useful but takes time to master

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

The program offers a bevy of options that prove useful for large-scale translations. Major projects can be managed more easily thanks to this. Once you get the hang of the program, it is great for multi-tasking several projects at a time and keeping tracking of them all in one place.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

The file types that are unique to the program may prove to be confusing at first for beginners. The program is also rather expensive for first-time freelancers and the initial cost may prove intimidating to someone trying to break into the translation business.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

Take the time to study the program in and out. Don't hesitate to contact support if you have any questions. Be careful with where you store your files as you'll usually be working with a variety of them when using Trados and it can get confusing whenever you return to a project you're in the middle of.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing large-scale projects. I can easily check and edit very specific segments of documents. It also keeps track of the percentage completed, giving you an idea of just how long you may spend on a project. This is crucial for when you have deadlines to meet.

  ### 40. The most useful program for a translation agency

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kyle M. | Retail Sales, Apparel & Fashion, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 29, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

On a normal day to day basis, I employ this at my international marketing company as a program manager and is one of the programs on Windows which has made organising my tasks and project management more productive . As a program manager, I am able to use and control the program simply by employing glossaries, which is also useable by all my teammates. We frequently use this for translation, editing, proof-checking projects and SDL Studios have boosted this by giving access to terminology and self-learning translation programming. An instance as an example is that the Studios can store large volumes of content. The quality of voice and brand is able to stay steady over changing and a heap of dialects and ventures through word references, glossaries and quality controls. Other than that, our Translation team has able to reduce the time required to wrap up interpretation ventures with advantage collaboration and assignment administration. Modern terms can moreover be arranged as our squad can add to them and be shared along other individuals.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

In spite of that the program offers numerous valuable highlights and is one of the finest programs utilized on each single day in our company, the cost is as well costly indeed for a company of our estimate even with huge to medium clients. As often as possible we have restricted licenses not to be cost efficient, but since it is actually the most effective of what able to deliver. Aside from the costs incurred when utilizing Studios over the company, it is additionally almost required to buy the newer programs as it certain highlights and capacities are included in them. Modern features are gradually presented today which are accessible in other competing softwares.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

The commerce issues that have been unraveled while using SDL Trados Studio is that our entire group has already overcame out unproductive issues. Nowadays, we are competent to overcome them much faster with the utilization of this program. Over time, as we get more licenses, our approach to the studio has been more prominent as well as our effectiveness. This appears that utilizing SDL Trados Studio has moved forward our productivity as a company and boost our group producitivity.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Strongly encourage to keep hold of previous versions to save costs.

  ### 41. Very productive for translations

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kai W. | Deloitte Intern, Management Consulting, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I practice and use this daily at my translation agency as a project manager and is one of the software I use primarily which makes my tasks and project management more comfortable. As a project manager, I am able to access the program easily by tapping into glossaries, which is also accessible by all my teammates. We frequently use this for translation and proof-checking projects and SDL Trados Studios have benefited this by giving access to memories, terminology and self-learning translation machines. An example that could be mentioned is that the Studios is able to store large volumes of content. The quality of voice and brand is able to remain consistent across varying and a myriad languages and projects through the usage of dictionaries, glossaries and quality controls. Besides, our team has able to lessen the time required to finish translation projects with features that benefit collaboration and task management. New terms can also be prepared as our squad members can add to them and be shared along other members.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Despite that the program offers many useful features and is one of the best programs used on every single day in our company, the price is too expensive even for a company of our size with large to medium clients. Very frequently we have limited licenses not only to optimize costs, but because it is actually the most cost efficient of what we can give. Aside from the high costs occurred when using Studios across the company, it is also encouraged to purchase the professional versions as only certain features and functions are included in them. New features are slowly introduced into the program which are available in other competing softwares.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

Strongly recommended keeping hold of previous versions to optimise saving costs.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The business problems that have been solved using SDL Trados Studio is that our team has previously faced inefficiency. Today, we are capable to complete them much quicker with the usage of this program. Over time, as we get more licenses from older and newer variations, our approach to the studio has been greater as well as our efficiency. This shows that using SDL Trados Studio has improved our efficiency as a company and project management team.

  ### 42. Often frustrating, but ultimately useful

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

When they work well, translation memories make my work a lot easier and quicker. This means I get more work done in less time and am able to make more money.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

The tool is not intuitive and must be taught. The newer versions are designed to look like Microsoft Word in an effort to make using them easier, but instead they have made it harder, as while it looks like Word, it doesn't function like Word. In addition, even when you know how to use it, it still kicks out errors frequently. Customer service is a joke; it mainly falls to the customers themselves to help one another instead.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

Instead of focusing on adding new features, focus on fixing the ones you've already created. Since the tool has frequent errors, real and prompt customer service would be nice rather than relying on your customers to help one another.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Increased accuracy, decreased translation time

  ### 43. TermBase in MultiTerm

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

It suggests the words or phrases that match the TermBase.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

TermBase reports issues with matches without regard to tense.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping the text consistent across several large groups of translators is difficult. With MultiTerm we have the ability to share the terminology across the board.

  ### 44. Translation memory and termbase are time savers!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I don't have to type the same thing over and over again, nor search previous documents to copy and paste into new translations. Ease of creating packages for review, and the translator can then see what changes were suggested and accept or deny each one.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

The exorbitant price of the product, plus another exorbitant price added yearly if you want support. Also, if you don't pay for tutorials, it takes a very long time to learn how to set it up and get it to work for you, especially if it is the first CAT tool you've ever used. Also, if you turn on Concordance Search, it goes there first and you have to purposefully click on Translation Results for each segment, which is rather frustrating. I would think it would bring up the concordance only if there is no existing translation unit.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

It's great, but there is at least one other CAT (MemoQ) that does the same at a much more affordable price, and with more useful features that makes your work go more quickly than with Trados. I do like the way coworkers can share packages in Trados, which you can't in MemoQ. In MemoQ, "packages" are only between the freelancer and agency (but you CAN share files by importing, exporting, and e-mailing files directly from your computer).

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Because of the leverage of previously-translated sentences, as well as already-researched terms in my term base, I can produce accurate translations of new documents that include information from other documents I have already translated, at a speed that is very necessary for the onslaught of translation requests.

  ### 45. My experience with SDL Trados Studio 2019

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I like the importing/exporting features where I need to import or export TBs and TMs. The best is that you can ignore duplicates or override old strings. This is not available with memoQ, so working locally with other translators is more smooth with Trados.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

I hate Trado's layout. It's horrible, confusing and not user-friendly (compared to memoQ, for example).

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

I think memoQ is better. Especially when it comes to its layout and UI. I find it more pleasing to work with, it is more straight forward and it is easier to sep up and use.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I mostly use memoQ and use Trados for the features that memoQ does not have: especially terminology management.

  ### 46. Great but has some limitations for localization

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

It is the market standard in the US for technical, medical and legal translation, TMs, Termbases, file formats are all very consistent, stable and standard.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

Support for WordPress is non-existent; other options like MemSource or MemoQ actually support these files and do not require programming of hundreds of tags for you to get started translating. Plugin support also is not great. Studio is great if you are working with InDesign, Illustrator, Word docs, etc., but for WordPress in particular it is not a viable option. It is a shame because WordPress is the biggest text generating engine out there.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

You have to explore other options if you publish using WordPress; if you use other publishing suites you may have more success using Studio.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Worked well to process Madcap Flare files prepped in Lingo and allowed us to start converting files into a more open TM/database instead of being locked into the Madcap Lingo system. Allowed for us to send work packages to vendors in more standard file formats in that technical publishing environment.

  ### 47. Studio is the market leader for a reason

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Karen T. | French into English Independent Translation Professional, Translation and Localization, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

Studio has served me well since it's inception. The single most valuable feature is one-click access to the concordance, closely followed by the function of the 'Display Filer' on the 'Review' ribbon.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

They way Studio automates the translation of numbers, dates and times can sometimes be annoying. It turns 1.10 into 1:10 pm too often when this was a piece of data in my source text, not a time.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use SDL Studio for all of my translation work.

  ### 48. SDL Studio for professional translators

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simona S. | Translator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Trados?**

SDL Studio helps me translate faster and meet tight deadlines in my work as a translator.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

It is a sophisticated translation tool and you need to keep up with all the updates, but the time and effort invested are worth it.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to deliver high quality translations while meeting the client's deadline.

  ### 49. SDL Trados Studio Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carol J. | T&I/Localization, Project Management, Translation and Localization, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

Its translation memory feature, where identical or similar text already translated before is automatically displayed in the segment from the translation memory. It also integrates glossaries into the translation as well as machine translation. This speeds up the translation process and make it more accurate..

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

The fact that you can't interactively see the final translation displayed in its final format.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It increases productivity and accuracy.

  ### 50. Trados makes my life easier.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2018

**What do you like best about Trados?**

I like all the functions and all the possibilities: working with source and target side-by-side, easily updating termbases, the possibility to work with a machine translation platform built-in, text alignment, etc.

**What do you dislike about Trados?**

The interface has improved, but it could be a little more user-friendly and self-explanatory.
I would like it to be easier to convert excel glossaries into SLD termbases.

**Recommendations to others considering Trados:**

I recommend Trados to people who at ease ease with new technologies. Otherwise I recommend that they use a simpler tool.

**What problems is Trados solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Short turnaround times
easily looked over mistakes
consistency within a file and among different files,
