**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

My rating is based on several factors, primarily the company, their team members, and their overall product. The team at ThoughtFarmer is kind, trustworthy, and provide extremely helpful professional services and support. They build carefully thought-out features and most importantly they listen and accept feedback.  ThoughtFarmer is a wise decision for any company looking to organize internal documentation and communication while saving time and frustration. I would still recommend it over other options.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

The team has been busy working on new integrations since my last review, and their new AI integration for a more natural search experience is a great example.  Improvements in FormFlow are always welcome, but I feel like forms have such a vast set of use-cases, it is hard to please every need.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our legacy intranet is not mobile friendly, it was designed with little oversight and has grown organically through the years.  It is more of an index page than a proper intranet.  Most people use it very little.  It adds very little value to our agency.

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

I am intrigued by Outlook calendar integration.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

More custom widgets and better user management for inactive profiles of former employees.

**Recommendations to others considering ThoughtFarmer:**

Take the time to review their demos and get to know the team responsible for your new site.  Take the review meetings seriously and make sure you have the right people in charge of this project on your end.  Let ThoughtFarmer guide you through the process as they have perfected things.  Ensure your project team has representation from every area of the company and let them be your ambassadors to the rest of the staff.  Everything will be so much more rewarding if your entire company buys into the new site.  Finally, limit the number of content editors and administrators to avoid "too many hands in the cookie jar."   We also established a steering committee that is responsible for overall decisions regarding the site.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Company-wide communication has improved by leaps and bounds since we switched over to the new modern intranet platform.  Also, the staff as a whole is more involved and taking an active role in the content.  We haven't fully embrassed the social media aspects of this site as much as other companies might have but the staff is very excited and I could see this happening down the rode (See above comment about our reservations).  Features such as following or bookmarking a page, shout outs to coworkers, news blasts and document retention have been embraced by the majority of our employees.  Finally, as mentioned above, their guidance allowed us to clean up a mess that was build and ignored over the course of twenty years.  They also taught us to link to content instead of putting it in multiple places.  This helps prevent the same content being updated in one location but out-of-date elsewhere.

I love how ThoughtFarmer has connected our teams across all locations. It allows us to support one another and stay informed about what’s happening in each of our communities.

I’d love to see more video capabilities and analytics tracking, but overall, we’re extremely happy with ThoughtFarmer.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ThoughtFarmer is helping us create a line of communication between each of our locations. Previously, it was hard to connect with each location. Our new Intranet has allowed us to connect with everyone, both bank and insurance. Whether that be through our news feed, shout-out's, photo galleries, or a silly poll question. I enjoy being able to interact with our employees across our company.

Having worked with ThoughtFarmer for a few years now, I can attest that the level of support is top tier.  Whether it is a small question or a bigger issue that requires looking into, there is a timely response as well as regular follow up communication when necessary.  I give them top marks for communication!

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

The app is still not nearly as user friendly as the desktop version. The search button works well, so this is a great option instead of using the menu.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accessibility to information for all staff - saves them having to ask me what the tool allowance policy is, for example
Company wide communication - everyone gets the same information at the same time
Collaboration - committees can add their own information to agendas instead of emailing
Builds community - the "people" section is helpful in providing a face and contact information

I highly recommend ThoughtFarmer for anyone looking to start an intranet. There are 3 big things to highlight: 
1. The product is simple and easy to use and you also get a wonderful team of experts who are always available to help. 
2. The ThoughtFarmer community is another great resource for administrators to ask questions and connect with others. 
3. The ThoughtFarmer analytics tool is useful, comprehensive and easy to use. This allows us to really see exactly what's working and what's not so that we don't waste time on content that is not useful.

We have been able to maximize telework by reaching colleagues who previously relied on in-person interactions to get info. We have also been able to extend our reach to our international colleagues!

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

I use ThoughtFarmer as an internal intranet site. It helped streamline and modernize our intranet. I like that it is customizable and user-friendly. The backend management is good. We were able to sync our Active Directory users, pull in contact cards for the employee directory, and overlay an internal SharePoint site for linking documents. The customization and syncing features were helpful. Also, it links to our internal Microsoft Dashboard, and the setup was easy once our team was on the same page.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

When embedding a document in ThoughtFarmer, the document views are not flexible. You sometimes need to scroll through a file within a view window, and the orientation cannot be changed.

ThoughtFarmer helped streamline and modernize our intranet, allowing us to sync AD users and connect with an internal SharePoint site, improving customization and backend management.

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

I like that ThoughtFarmer works really well with what we needed and has similar functionality to what we were accustomed to. The forms function is one of the best aspects for us, as it allows us to handle internal requests efficiently. The ability to design and lay out the site to our preferences made it pretty easy for us. The design flexibility is valuable as we can customize different sections of the platform as we like. The search function also works pretty well, and I'm excited about the upcoming AI functionality.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

I'd like ThoughtFarmer to function more like Myspace where we could embed music or videos directly from YouTube, instead of linking externally. There are areas where you can use GIFs, but it's just not used across the site as much as I'd like.

ThoughtFarmer helps us engage employees, store documents, enhance communication, and manage information effectively. We switched for better functionality, ease of use, and reliable customer service.

As expected, the content review feature is proving to be very helpful in maintaining accurate information for our staff.

The app is still less functional than the desktop site but again, not a deal breaker in usability thanks to the search bar!

Solving problems of communication, siloed/outdated information. Our employees now have access to current news and information at their fingertips.

The user-friendly features for creating content, along with the overall ease of use for end users, are excellent!

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

There are a few social features that could use improvement such as emoji's or gifs in comments. It would also be nice to have the glossary feature available on all pages that "might" be able to use that feature. Right now we can only use it on the Client page.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our biggest concern for switching was security and customer service. Both of which were immediately fixed by switching to Thought Farmer.

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

I love that ThoughtFarmer is really easy to use and intuitive. The client services team is also great, they are friendly and responsive whenever I need help. The ease of use means I don't have to spend much time training people, which supports faster adoption by employees and increases usage. It also saves me time, allowing me to focus on other tasks. The client services team helped me effectively implement the intranet with a very small team—just myself. They were incredibly useful, proactive, and responsive throughout the process.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

They are based in Canada, so they aren't in the European time zone for customer service. So that's not ideal, but hasn't been a challenge so far.

I use ThoughtFarmer to share information in an engaging way, helping employees understand organizational happenings better and supporting better employee engagement.

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

I appreciate how ThoughtFarmer stands out as a user-friendly product, making it accessible for end users without technical backgrounds to create, edit, and distribute content effortlessly. This ease of use eliminates the need for day-to-day IT support, avoiding bottlenecks in information publishing and allowing anyone in the organization to contribute effectively. The calendaring and search features are very helpful, along with multimedia support, which enhances content engagement. I find the active directory integration seamless as it removes the necessity for separate accounts, and the version control history along with the content management capabilities are exceptional. These features support my organization by solving communication challenges, allowing many-to-many communications with robust security controls for information dissemination. The setup of ThoughtFarmer is straightforward and easy, highlighting its efficiency as a product that empowers users to manage the system independently.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

I dislike that ThoughtFarmer has made a business decision to move exclusively to cloud-based offerings. As an on-premise customer, the shift to a subscription cost model from our existing licensing cost coupled with an optional annual maintenance fee, is not preferable. I believe ThoughtFarmer should reconsider continuing to offer an on-premise solution, acknowledging the industry's current trajectory towards cloud solutions, even though it might not align with the trends expected by 2025.

I use ThoughtFarmer for corporate intranet to facilitate many-to-many communication, solve publishing bottlenecks with security controls, and enable simple content creation without technical expertise.

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

From an administrator's perspective, I love that each resource has a home, content reviews and content owners can keep us on track, and there are so many customizable features.

The launch and implementation team were amazing!!! They set a timeline with us, kept us on track, and gave us all the tools and training to be effective administrators. They had so many good ideas that we used for our migration and launch. 

Now that we're launched, it shows how important and successful our pre-launch work was - many users are in our new intranet daily.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

I want to start by mentioning that all of this feedback has already been shared with ThoughtFarmer, and it may be considered for future feature updates. The company has been very responsive and attentive to our suggestions whenever possible. That being said, here are my dislikes:

External links are not searchable or easily maintained. This is a big deal because as a credit union we have many external links. 

I wish there was a role for editing content but not publishing content, to have dual control over the content. Someone else would need to publish it.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of our major organizational goals was eliminating mass emails to all staff. The news feature in ThoughtFarmer is very customizable and should help us make good progress with the goal - now it's just giving staff time to adjust to the change.

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

The best part of ThoughtFarmer was the smooth implementation process!  We had a small timeframe to get this product launched and fully transition all of our internal information over on top of training our employees to do so.  We had several meetings a week to ensure our employees had the resources available.  Alina was also quick to respond to any questions we came across outside of the meetings as well.  Additionally, the system is very user friendly!

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

I do wish there were more options of cards to be available to give it more fun personalization for different topics.  But the selection itself as it really covers a lot already!

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We do not have any current problems.  ThoughtFarmer was able to walk us through the limited hiccups along the way within the implementation process.  We do have a minor enhancement suggestion that we have submitted, but it is not an issue to our database at all.

I honestly do not dislike anything. There’s a small learning curve for first-time users, especially those less comfortable with technology—but the onboarding tools and support team make it much easier to get everyone comfortable quickly.

ThoughtFarmer was a fantastic company to work with. Their team was professional, friendly, and responsive from start to finish. Everyone we worked with throughout the project was helpful and made the process seamless.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

A couple of the functions could be more flexible, several enhancements require an add-on cost, and reports could be a bit more built out.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ThoughtFarmer has solved our issues with outdated documents, no centralized news hub, searching, and easy navigation by having a platform that is both modern and user-friendly.  The features that ThoughtFarmer has developed actually work and help us stay on top on our intranet.

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

Not only is this an out-of-the-box intranet, but very customizable too. With each version upgrade, comes new bells & whistles. It's intuitive and straight-forward to learn so that you can manage your own content in a quick, cost-effective manner vs waiting for a company to make changes for you!

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

Administrative rights still need to be more granular even though there have been improvements. Most have requested their content be more locked down in draft or restricted to specific eyes.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Last year, I opened 17 tickets with ThoughtFarmer with various questions, customizations or assistance. All tickets were resolved promptly.
Recently, they ensured us that AI Create and AI Enhance met all our security requirements before we could proceed with Beta testing.
I am now looking forward to Beta testing AI Assistant too.

Ticketing system could use some work. Would like for the system to know the approval process based on how we set up the workflow instead of sometimes having to assign the person the ticket goes to next.

There isn't much I dislike, but there were a few areas that had a slight learning curve at first. Once I became familiar with the system, it was smooth.

The other standout for me with ThoughtFarmer is the ability to take and keep meeting minutes in a place that is easily accessible and can be followed up on. Overall it has been a great tool!

I did run into a few problems creating forms as some of them are complicated and require an extremely long form even with the exceptions active. If there was a way to import forms and create without so many manual processes that would have been helpful.

Everything we were promised was delivered—and then some. The product is extremely easy to use and thoughtfully designed. The team consistently goes above and beyond to find solutions when challenges arise. Even after the initial setup, one of the implementation team members has stayed involved to offer continued support, which is something you don’t see very often.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

It’s hard to come up with any real downsides, more-so just small features that would be an improvement if they were implemented. The only minor inconvenience is needing to adjust formatting when bringing in content from a Word document. It would be fantastic to have an AI feature that could automatically build web pages based on the structure and style of a Word file. It would also be nice to have a full integration with our phone system. While we can easily click on an employee in the intranet directory and call them  on our desk phones right through our intranet, we cannot view their availability status on Thought Farmer. I would love to have that feature.

We were looking for a way to enhance internal communication and boost employee engagement and recognition across several locations. We also needed a more organized, accessible space to store important documents. **What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

We've been live with ThoughtFarmer for a couple of months now.  I use the platform daily as a user and administrator.  Our new ThoughtFarmer intranet is so much better than our old intranet.  Having it hosted saves us from the server maintenance and patching.  The search option on the site saves our users so much time in searching for forms, pages, and other content.  The implementation team made the onboarding process easy and digestible.

The customer support and helpdesk team at ThoughtFarmer is attentive and helpful.  They have even put a couple development items that we suggested in the queue for future releases.

An important feature that ThoughtFarmer provides is integration with Active Directory.  This allows us to maintain our users in one system, as opposed to updating AD and our intranet.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

1) Some of the training during the onboarding process was canned and wasn't customized for us
2) Can't search for links in the search menu
3) Users can't save custom page views with sections expanded or collapsed

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our old intranet was built on an in-house WordPress.  The product was becoming less and less usable and more difficult to maintain.  We started to look for a replacement that was hosted by the software provider.  Additionally, we wanted a vendor who had experience with financial institutions.  In doing our search, ThoughtFarmer quickly separated itself.  During the onboarding process, ThoughtFarmer helped us take an audit of our current intranet and design a new build on their platform.  Our new ThoughtFarmer intranet provides a place where departments can store and manage their own content (forms, policies, links, etc.).  This saves the IT group from managing everything on their own.  Additionally, the content is much more accessible.  Users can search for content instead of needing to drill down through each page to find it.  The employee directory syncs with Active Directory - giving us accurate information that only needs updating in one place.

ThoughtFarmer has been a great company to work with.  They've developed an intranet platform that is incredibly easy to administer and manage.  From creating a platform that has helped us organize all of our documents and forms to improving communication across our entire team.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

Forms - It would be helpful to have the ability for a submitter to send a form to a specific person or group of their choosing.  Currently, forms can only be routed to a predetermined individual who receives the notification. W hil others can access and view the form, they do not receive any alerts.
Additionally, forms must be completed and submitted in one sitting.  There is no option to save progress and return later, which can be limiting for more complex or time-consuming submissions.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ThoughtFarmer is helping to solve a disorganized process of compiling and updating internal forms and documents.  We are able to place forms in one spot and link to any additional pages we choose.  When updating the form we are able to "replace" the current form and all of the links are updated as well. 
ThoughtFarmer is also helping with employee communication.  We are able to update and notify our employees through ThoughtFarmer News Reels and News Articles.  We are also able to manage a bulk following of articles and procedures for our employees.

It is easy to use and understand. Because of this, setup is a breeze, and once you're launched you can easily teach others how to use the tool. 

The software makes sense. As you build the site you'll find you're able to see and understand how everything works. This makes setup a breeze.

Their staff is awesome. Oscar in support was always available if things broke. Ben and Alina with the weekly check ins kept me on pace and were extremely knowledgeable. If they didn't know the answer they always got back to me in a timely fashion. I truly felt like they cared.

Outlook doesn't integrate with their calendar, but ThoughtFarmer has told me this will be updated within the year.

Great team to work with: super responsive, open to feedback & suggestions, timely responses.  Great platform that is easy to use for both the user and the admin.  If we ever had issues, they would work to resolve them as quickly as possible!  They provide a perfect balance of helping & guiding us, but also empowering us to create the pages on our own.
It was a great experience overall.  I provided feedback and suggestions for improvements along the way and the team was always open & receptive and also happy to hear.  They were great to work with, had easy to follow meeting notes and action items, always responded quickly and effectively when we had issues, they always seek to find the best solutions.  I am really so happy that we found this company!  It is a fantastic platform and a company filled with kind and helpful people.  If I had to do it all over again, I would choose Thoughtfarmer in a heartbeat!

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

I would have liked to see more info up front before our sessions to maximize the efficiency of the session.  Most of my team members had not ever had an intranet before, so it was very new to them.  
Also, it would have been good to have met with the ThoughtFarmer team after the content inventory to discuss how the content would actually be set up.  We wanted documents in a document library and not have a separate page for each piece of content.  We did not spend enough time discussing the different content types: a page, a group, a section, etc.  I think we would have made progress faster if our sessions were working sessions vs learning sessions.  Just send us the overview, the powerpoint and a video, then we can do the creating together during our meeting.
Also, sometimes the meetings started 1-5 minutes late.  I know that ThoughtFarmer books back to back meetings, but I think it's important to start meetings on time.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We desperately needed a central location for storing our documents, for sharing documents and for communicating to our employees and our ThoughtFarmer intranet is helping us to meet ALL of these goals!   We are thrilled with this easy-to-use platform.  Although this was a very new thing for our firm, everyone took to it so easily!

Its easy to learn and teach others. I also like how easy you can move their pages around when  making new areas on the site. The collaboration and drafting tools make setup so easy. I can invite the entire team to help or approve the setup before launching it.

The news articles could use samples that pop up before you post them to help everyone match the theme of the companys intranet. IE have an image requirement etc.

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

We are a small organization, and recognize that we’re probably only using ThoughtFarmer at a small percentage of its actual power. Knowing this, ThoughtFarmer has been very patient in helping our org understand what tools and features would be a great fit for our office to implement from this tool. 
 
The implementation was a breeze. Our client rep was very organized in our meetings, never missing a single item she had committed to following up on. I felt heard, valued and checked in on at every step in the process. Staff appreciates how easy the software is to use. Their ThoughtFarmer community page and comprehensive YouTube videos have been invaluable.
 
I would recommend ThoughtFarmer to anyone looking for a great Intranet software tool.

Updated: August 2024. We're still using ThoughtFarmer, and I love the features they've added over the past few years to make it even easier to navigate and use as both an employee, and as the site admin.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

It could be a little more intuitive on the best practice for navigation development, but our client rep held our hand through creating it just fine.  Overall I don't have any dislikes.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a org we relied on just emails and the reply all function to share news or support culture, which wasn't effective for culture building at all. We have seen an increase in positive small story sharing, and that really has had a big impact on the mood of staff.

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

The Thought Farmer customer service is great. They work with you from beginning to end by providing training, best practices, and support on layout. With the site now launched, monthly check-ins with the team help answer any questions and address challenges. When a question can't be addressed in the meeting, it gets escalated to the tech support team who are really fast in their responses.

Setting up the intranet is pretty intuitive. The layout is engaging and simple for users. Pages can be easily moved around and reconfigured.

The intranet has been a great way to bring employees together across the company.

Thought Farmer is always updating and improving the platform and there have been some helpful upgrades over the two years since we launched.

Overall, I've enjoyed working with the Thought Farmer team.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

Customization is challenging with Thought Farmer - it either can't be done or has a fairly high hourly fee. Make sure that you're happy with the out of the box features.

The analytics tool (not developed by Thought Farmer) is kind of hard to understand but they did mention they're working on a in-house one that will be more customized to user needs.

I'm happy with the product in general.

Thought Farmer's platform is solving communication challenges within a dispersed workforce. It's allowing the company to share updates and news across the company.

The other thing we're using it for is as a knowledge sharing database: important documents, technical tips, and technical discussions are housed on the platform so that others can learn.

**What do you like best about ThoughtFarmer?**

I like the no-code element of Thought Farmer. It is so easy and intuatiuve to use. However, if you want to get technical there are many options to do this including custom CSS. The no-code element is one of the best I have seen. Thought farmer professional services team were also really helpful and guided us the whole way through the process.

Edit after 2 years: Thought Farmer continues to be a really useful platform for us. We continue to upload critical documentation to our intranet as well as foster a collaborative culture with interesting team updates. Thought Farmer also continues to provide really well designed product updates with exciting functionality. We would recommend Thought Farmer to anyone currently considering an intranet solution.

**What do you dislike about ThoughtFarmer?**

There is not much to dislike here. Thought Farmer works very well for our company. Perhaps a company with more specific intranet requirements might not like the page and card layout system (i.e you create pages and then place cards on those pages) but it worked really well for us.

**What problems is ThoughtFarmer solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to centralise our company communcations easily. Since we are now a global company this was a real issue for us before hand. We have also been able to shift a lot of communciation away from email chains which easily get lost or ignored. We have also added loads of features which allow for better information sharing as well as fun spaces to share off topic discussions. This has made employees mch more productive, happy and motivated. This wasn't a problem for us previously but definitely a good thing to imporve.

There are some features I have seen in other intranet providers that I'd love to see in TF.

In the latest version of TF, the content review process has been greatly  improved. Addtionally, there are a good amount of page layout options and overall, the look and feel is fresh.
