I have used SuperAnnotate for half a year now (after testing a couple of other platforms) for annotation of images.

Compared to the other platforms I have tried, SuperAnnotate has an intuitive interface. It was straightforward to get familiar with the different functions and tools that the platform provides.

In annotation mode, keyboard shortcuts make the annotation process more efficient, and image adjustment tools (like brightness and contrast) are helpful when annotating images of varying quality. The different image statuses are useful for an internal workflow between me and my colleagues.

It is easy to navigate amongst the thousands of images in our dataset - both in annotation mode and outside. This has been very useful in situations where I have had to find specific images to make some changes to the dataset. I was looking for a tool to annotate biological images. After trying many tools, I found two of the best platforms for myself. One of them is Superannotate. We are a data labeling workforce provider and have a team of 100+ annotators across projects. We started working on SuperAnnotate about a year ago, and since then have been increasing the number of projects we do on the platform, due to its ease of use, reliability, and rich feature set and capabilities.

However, to us, the most useful is the workforce and management functionalities Superannotate puts at our fingertips. We can manage multiple projects, with different teams at the same time with ease.

Superannotate offers an Explore Page, which allows you to easily query a sub-set of your data in any way imaginable, significantly reducing rework efforts, and making spot checks and changes due to updated instructions a breeze.

They also offer an analytics feature, that allows us to measure performance on both a per annotator and per class level, which further aids in our workforce management-related needs.

Finally, the adoption of the Superannotate platform within my team has been relatively seamless. From Annotators and QCers to Project Managers, the intuitive feature set of the platform makes onboarding new team members a breeze. And in-case of any problems, we can contact the SuperAnnotate team, who are quick to help us find a solution or provide an alternative method to solve our problems! While our overall experience with Superannotate has been very positive, we have had some issues with custom workflows that the team implemented for specific projects on their platform. However, this is understandable, and the team was quick to resolve any issues.

SuperAnnotate offers well-structured documentation, making it easy to navigate and utilize the platform effectively. I am a physician-scientist and my research applies computer vision techniques to biomedical imaging projects. The SuperAnnotate platform solves a common problem that computer vision researchers encounter, which is the rapid curation of expert annotations. Given the limited training data in medical imaging datasets, I often start with image segmentation based on expert annotations. Previously, I cobbled together several different tools for annotation, quality control, and neural network training but it was cumbersome to switch between different software and intermediate annotation masks. My favorite aspect of SuperAnnotate is the integrated, streamlined workflow AI-augmented annotation, quality control, and neural network training. I'm still using SuperAnnotate and it has been crucial to make progress on several projects. They have continued to innovate developing new annotation features such as MagicSelect and Magic polygon. The shortcuts for annotating images are intuitive and speed up my workflow. Their annotation teams have been timely and efficient, following detailed instructions. My initial concern was that I could not upload annotation masks that were generated manually or on other platforms. However, the team rapidly introduced a feature to upload annotation masks for use in the platform, which meant I could leverage existing annotations from previous projects. The team is responsive to feedback and I am very pleased with my experience.

While their work quality stays superior as agreed upon by many others in the industry, the best traits are customer support and communication. Anytime I had a question, they were ready to answer and if SuperAnnotate needed information, the questions were clear and to the point. I been using SuperAnnotate for around 6 months now for image annotation and I really like it. The platform is very easy and intuitive to use. The user interface is friendly and everything is easy to find.
