## SugarSync Reviews
  ### 1. Flexible Folder Sync Without a “Magic” Folder—Keeps Files Organized Your Way

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joseph W. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2026

**What do you like best about SugarSync?**

I like that SugarSync lets me sync any folder on my PC without forcing me to move everything into a specific “magic” folder. That kind of flexibility makes it much easier to keep my files organized the way I prefer, and it’s a feature many other cloud services simply don’t offer.

**What do you dislike about SugarSync?**

Cost: It is significantly more expensive than competitors like Dropbox or Google Drive, and it lacks a permanent free tier.
Performance: Users often report high CPU and memory usage, which can slow down computers, along with sluggish upload speeds for large files.
Technical Issues: Common bugs include file duplication, folders getting "stuck" during synchronization, and difficulties syncing across multiple devices.
Support & Interface: The web interface is widely considered outdated and "clunky," while customer support is often described as slow or non-responsive.

**What problems is SugarSync solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By allowing me to synchronize my various documents across many different operating systems

  ### 2. Real-Time Sync and Backup Solution with Room for Speed Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fidela Y. | Senior Video Editor, Media Production, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 17, 2026

**What do you like best about SugarSync?**

I like SugarSync's reliable, real-time sync across all my devices and its worry-free automatic backup, which is essential for our media production work. The seamless cross-device syncing keeps my video projects, raw footage, and editing files up to date between my desktop workstation, laptop, and on-location equipment, so I don't have to manually transfer files or deal with conflicting versions. The continuous, automatic backup protects our large, irreplaceable media files without any extra effort, which means I never fear losing critical footage or edits. Its secure file sharing feature allows me to send high-resolution clips and rough cuts to clients and team members quickly and safely, bypassing email restrictions. The platform is intuitive and requires little maintenance, allowing our team to focus on production rather than file management. The initial setup of SugarSync was straightforward and hassle-free for our team.

**What do you dislike about SugarSync?**

While SugarSync meets our core media production needs, there are a few areas that don’t perform as well as we’d like and could use improvement. First, upload and sync speeds noticeably slow down with large video files, such as raw 4K footage and high-resolution project assets, which are central to our work. This delays access to files when moving between studio and on-location setups. Second, the desktop sync client occasionally freezes or lags when handling massive media folders, requiring manual restarts that disrupt our editing workflow. Third, file versioning is limited and doesn’t retain enough historical copies for long-term video projects, making it difficult to recover earlier edits when needed.

**What problems is SugarSync solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SugarSync reliably syncs large media files across my devices in real time, provides automatic backup, and facilitates secure file sharing. It reduces errors, saves time on file management, ensures secure backup, and streamlines collaboration in our media production workflow.

  ### 3. Excellent Compatibility, Synchronization Details Could Be Improved

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sebastián M. | Salesforce Consultant, Consulting, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2026

**What do you like best about SugarSync?**

I like the compatibility of SugarSync between operating systems. I use a desktop computer with Windows and a laptop with macOS, and this compatibility saves me the work of manually transferring files using flash drives or paying extra for other applications. Additionally, I find the initial setup relatively simple despite the first synchronization being slow due to the number of files. For these reasons, I consider SugarSync to be a very good, almost perfect application.

**What do you dislike about SugarSync?**

Sometimes data synchronization doesn't work very well with mobile data. I understand that when you're not connected by cable to the internet, but rather the connection is via wifi or mobile, it's not the best... But it leaves much to be desired sometimes that with limited data, file synchronization is not optimal.

**What problems is SugarSync solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use SugarSync to back up my important files and access them across different devices. I like its compatibility between operating systems, which saves me from using USB drives.

  ### 4. Streamlined File Syncing with Minor Delays

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samuel L. | Project Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about SugarSync?**

I appreciate how easy it is to set a template structure in SugarSync so that different reps can upload files to the right folder without having to navigate too much. This feature ensures that the right file is uploaded to the right folder, which minimizes errors. Additionally, the initial setup was straightforward for me and the team I work with.

**What do you dislike about SugarSync?**

Sometimes the lag for synching the files means our internal team have to wait a bit longer, even though the rep says the file should be there

**What problems is SugarSync solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use SugarSync to sync files, especially photos of signatures on contracts from mobile phones. It ensures reps can capture signatures quickly, with easy template structures that prevent misplacing files, streamlining access for our settlements team.

  ### 5. Unmatched “Sync-in-Place” Flexibility That Keeps SugarSync Worth It

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alwin K A. | Verifications Specialist , Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 02, 2026

**What do you like best about SugarSync?**

What makes SugarSync stand out—and, honestly, what keeps people paying its premium—is its unmatched flexibility in folder selection.

Unlike most cloud services that force you to move everything into one “Magic Folder” (like Dropbox or Google Drive), SugarSync lets you right-click any existing folder on your computer and start syncing it immediately. That means you don’t have to reorganize your entire digital life just to get it backed up.

Beyond that, there are a few other highlights worth calling out. Continuous Sync updates files in real time across unlimited devices. Remote Wipe is a real lifesaver for security if a device is lost or stolen. Version Recovery keeps the last five versions of your files, which makes it much easier to roll back those accidental “oops” moments.

Yes, it’s pricier than competitors, but that “sync-in-place” capability is a huge time-saver for power users.

**What do you dislike about SugarSync?**

While SugarSync’s flexibility is a real plus, it also comes with several “deal-breaker” drawbacks for many users.

First, the value is hard to justify. It’s arguably one of the most expensive services per GB: you’ll pay about $7.50/month for 100GB, while competitors like IDrive or pCloud offer 2TB (2,000GB) for a similar price.

Privacy is another concern because there’s no zero-knowledge option. SugarSync holds the decryption keys to your data, so if they’re hacked or subpoenaed, your files could be accessible. Many modern alternatives offer “zero-knowledge” encryption where only you have the key.

Performance also feels dated. It lacks block-level sync, so if you change even one word in a large file, it re-uploads the entire file. That can make it significantly slower than services like Dropbox or Box.

On top of that, there’s still no Linux support, and the web and desktop apps feel clunky and “stuck in 2015.”

**What problems is SugarSync solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SugarSync primarily solves the problem of fragmented data across multiple machines. While many cloud services force you to change how you work, SugarSync adapts to your existing workflow.

One major issue it addresses is rigid file structures. Instead of making you move everything into a single “sync folder,” it lets you keep your desktop, documents, and project folders exactly where they already are. It also helps reduce version conflicts by automatically saving up to five previous versions of every file, which can prevent you from losing work when something gets overwritten. On the security side, the “Remote Wipe” feature helps close a common gap by reducing the risk of data exposure if a laptop or phone is stolen.

For me, the biggest benefit is operational efficiency. I save time because there’s no manual uploading or reorganization required. Since it syncs in real time, I can start a document at the office and find the updated version waiting on my home Mac almost immediately, keeping my digital life “mirrored” with minimal effort.

  ### 6. Keeps Files in Sync Effortlessly, Needs More Collaboration Tools
