What do you like best about Stoplight?

I love how the end product looks and the try it out functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stoplight?

It's a shame that we aren't hosting the docs ourselves, so we're missing out on any SEO data we could be gathering. This is also one of the most difficult tools I've ever used in terms of authoring experience in my 10+ years as a technical writer. If I have to change something that resides in an existing module, I have no way of knowing where it's being reused throughout the docs, so I have to click through every page to make sure that the change I just made isn't providing incorrect information on a different page. It takes a LOT of trial and error for a new user to figure out where the page components live (like where to change the title, etc.) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:

Do some research to figure out HOW your developers are using your docs before making a decision. We thought that the "try it out" functionality was the bees knees, when in reality, it's difficult for the developers to find, and they weren't really using it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?

I think our end users really like the look and feel of our API docs that we've created using stoplight. Doing our own research though, we've come to realize that our developers struggle to find the Try it out functionality and that 9/10 they're more likely to just copy/paste the code and run it on their own. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Anna Daugherty of Stoplight

Thank you for the excellent feedback. It's been a little while, so I wanted to update you about an exciting new open source documentation tool called Elements. Embed OpenAPI documentation wherever you want using web components.

Elements is currently in beta, but you're more than welcome to try it out now and see if it helps with some of your docs needs and pain points.

https://github.com/stoplightio/elements

If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to leave it on our roadmap!

Thanks again,

Anna Daugherty

What do you like best about Stoplight?

Awesome UI/UX when creating new documentation on StopLight. Very easy to learn the tool and you can master it within a week or two. I liked the run on the go UI for any API call. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stoplight?

I felt that the tool is lacking a feature of applying a particular Security/ Path parameters to multiple requests at once like you can select multiple requests at once to feed the values of Security/ Path parameters using point and click. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stoplight?

A single place for all definitions - data models, API Specification for both internal and external services, alongside a great authoring tool - allowing me to create compelling documentation for our internal developers and third-party developers using our APIs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stoplight?

There is nothing I dislike, but there are points for improvement. However, they continue to improve the product and I assume most of the needs will be addressed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?

Before using Stoplight, we had a manual process of defining the API to the R&D, and separate documentation process (for the use of external developers). Now we have a single source of truth - one set of definitions, which can be "wrapped" for internal and external purposes. A better way to communicate - internally and externally - saving us time and money. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stoplight?

I like that stoplight supports importing my API via swagger. It makes the early integration with the tool approachable. I also enjoy that the UI helps ensure I think of all parts of building a new endpoint and even provides tooling around mocking. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stoplight?

At times it can feel a bit overwhelming. If there was a basics UI, then it could rapidly prototype? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are trying to improve communications throughout the organization about API standards and documentation. We have built an API approval process using Stoplight. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stoplight?

Stoplight is becoming an essential tool for us as we develop our API's. Stoplight makes designing and creating Swagger / OAS definition files really easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stoplight?

The UI of "next" version is a bit hard to get used to. It would be nice if I could group endpoints together when I am designing them like was possible in the previous version. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?

Stoplight helps us design our API endpoints. We can then use the OAS definition file that it generates for code build automation, API documentation, and API testing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stoplight?

The way that we can easily design our rest API, declaring our ressources and models, and mock this API via prism Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stoplight?

Minor interfaces bug and refresh, we can't reorder scenario without going into scenario settings

Maybe an API to get the swagger with a trigger on a change, in order to automatize the generation of controller in our backend when a change is made on the stoplight

GraphQL implementation would be a big plus too

Prism crash randomly on certain linux distrib Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?

API can be modified by project manager and reviewed by developers

Scénario can be made by project manager

We, developers, save a lot of time and juste have to develop the API and run unit test only :) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stoplight?

How simple it is to navigate the interface. Able to quickly add documents and push to production. Stoplight allows me to reference a new document to replace existing content. This makes it particularly helpful with version control. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stoplight?

Hard to add media such as images. Often find it difficult to keep media organized in one location. Also difficult to update images without having to update it in various locations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:

Give it a try, it is relatively easy to get the hang of and has good resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?

External documentation, able to create a site specific to a product. We have realized that it allows a lot of tools for developer documentation as well as fulfilling the needs for our end users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stoplight?

You can design and test against the stoplight mock platform while changing the responses per web-service Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stoplight?

If I really need to complain, Sometimes hard to find the mocking endpoint (UI) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Stoplight:

a cleaner way of automating test cases after a deployment.

Yes this is extremely vague. I want to deploy a service and make sure this service's endpoints works as per the documentation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are much more agile.

- Developers starts with designing endpoints on stoplight, then start development.

- DevOps starts building the config and integration against the stoplight mock endpoints. Going live is simply swapping endpoints from stoplight to production.

Very little documentation is necessary afterwards if the endpoints are done right. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Stoplight?

Swagger made easy, finally - no excuses now not to fully document APIs. UI is intuitive, no tutorials necessary. Haven't found a case that Stoplight documentation couldn't cover Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stoplight?

There are some bugs with having to save a new definition before being able to update them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Stoplight solving and how is that benefiting you?

- Massively accelerates development, as it makes it so much faster for API developers to distribute work to frontend consumers.

- Able to upload Swagger definitions from APIs we ourselves consume Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
