While there are a few competitors on the market that provide documentation hosting based on OpenAPI specifications (some of which look slightly nicer), we have yet to find a platform that does as well with the initial editing and spec'ing out of new endpoints. We're an API company, and so having a visual editor to allow product managers to come up with drafts for new API endpoints, and then commit these back into git repositories to collaborate on them with complete version control is the most helpful feature. As much as we like the editing feature conceptually, there are still a lot of usability and reliability issues. The most notable one is that frequently changes in git to an OpenAPI document don't sync back to the browser correctly, leading to merge conflicts that can't be resolved from within Stoplight, which often results in wasted time.

Another thing that has improved recently but is still a bit of an issue is the reliability of the documentation site hosting. These are an essential part of our product, and we've often noticed downtime and failures before the Stoplight team did, which made it look like they didn't have the same monitoring and alerting set up for their own services that we had for this third-party service. There is increased promotion of designing strategies across the company. It enables teams to work in harmony and come up with suitable solutions. I like it so powerful yet to simple to design not only one API, but a whole set of API, with predefiend models and mock server, we can quickly create a mock API for proof of concept and share with team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Stoplight provides a clean user interface and enables an engineering team to develop a compliant API with minimal difficulty. Other tools don't provide the same details, guard rails, and error validation that Stoplight provides. I can feel that Stoplight is made by API developers for API developers as opposed to either an experienced PM fresh out of college, or a hyper-detailed API wonk for whom working in the flat file itself would be more ideal.
