## STARLIMS Reviews
  ### 1. Experimental, Not as Well-Known, & Need a More Friendly User Interface

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2019

**What do you like best about STARLIMS?**

The graphs and analysis provided are extremely clean and easy to read. The graphics of it all are extremely pleasing to the eye.

**What do you dislike about STARLIMS?**

Not much information provided on "how to most effectively use the system". It seems like a lot more time needs to be spent on learning to use this product when laboratories are already familiar with many other pre-existing companies and services.

**What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Used STARLIMS for creating graphs & it's amazing how all the graphs that are needed can be seen on one page. However, the difficulty of learning the new program when there are inadequate instructions given deters the user from using the new system instead of sticking with the one he/she is more used to.

  ### 2. A complex system

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2019

**What do you like best about STARLIMS?**

What I like best about Starlims is that I can navigate to multiple pages without losing the page I am currently on. I feel that this type of functionality is important in order to operate the system

**What do you dislike about STARLIMS?**

As much as I like the fact that I can navigate to other pages easily, I feel that I have to navigate to other pages in order for me to get the information that I need to fulfill the current step that I'm on. It may or may not be a Starlims problem, but maybe this issue falls on our software development team.
However, I have witnessed some out of the box functionalities in Starlims that to me simply are simply not easy to follow.

An out of the box functionality that I feel is non-intuitive is the Work Order module. To me, any type of step by step process (such as work orders) needs to be dummy proof. In fact, that is ultimately how your LIMS should be in the first place. For this instance, when I submit work orders, I need to be guided to the next step. There are to many options for me to click on. Starlims needs to have a step by step process that guides me to the completion of the work orders. I need a set of work instructions in order for me to complete a work order, and I feel that this shouldn't be the case. As soon as I click on create a work order, there needs to be a dummy proof system in place that guides the user through the steps rather than having him/her navigate through trial and error.

**Recommendations to others considering STARLIMS:**

Need to have a strong engineering team if you want to implement STARLIMS in your lab. STARLIMS has their own programming language, which they do provide you training on, but it's a hard system to learn. I feel that they make it difficult so you hire their programming team to build out your custom usage.

**What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving our sample tracking problems. However, I do not believe we are using STARLIMS to it's fullest capacity in order for us to have a fully functional tracking system. I feel that STARLIMS does have a good tracking system, and a good analytics module.

  ### 3. Data tracking organization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2019

**What do you like best about STARLIMS?**

This tool is very helpful with improving data organization. It provides you with the useful storage of all data and helps with tracking your data

**What do you dislike about STARLIMS?**

The use of technology makes data organization easier although my familiarity with technology imposes a different type of challenge when using STARLIMS.

**What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me, data organization has been the most helpful part of STARLIMS.

  ### 4. Not flexible enough for pre-clinical studies, but good LIMS for clinical studies.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2019

**What do you like best about STARLIMS?**

Organization, ability to incorporate images (histology)
Tracking of changes
Ability to interface with equipment

**What do you dislike about STARLIMS?**

With the caveat that this LIMS is meant for clinical studies, the software was not setup for pre-clinical studies that we wanted to execute in mice where we have 100-200 mice at a time and the individual setup and entry of the many shared parameters was too unwieldy.

**Recommendations to others considering STARLIMS:**

I would not recommend it for mouse pre-clinical studies, but should be fine for primate or other species with fewer number of individuals.

**What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we chose not to use this LIMS and instead (gasp) validated excel sheets

  ### 5. STARLIMS is very useful, but not very user friendly, and very slow.

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2019

**What do you like best about STARLIMS?**

Lots of different uses for STARLIMS -- from biorepository to sample tracking to aliquotting and splitting samples.

**What do you dislike about STARLIMS?**

Very slow, not very user friendly interface. Does not communicate well with other programs such as Orchard LIS.

**What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cohesive tracking of sample locations. Different departments can access system for different reasons.

  ### 6. Too much pain when input experimental results

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2017

**What do you like best about STARLIMS?**

It can generate experiment report after you input information about what material and instrument you used and results. Help you tracking the material and supply inventory

**What do you dislike about STARLIMS?**

When input results, I cannot select multiple items to edit at the same time. I have to select an answer for each item one by one. Sometimes there could be more than 100+ items that I need to select an answer for it. For example, a value (pass or fail), b value (pass or fail), c value (pass or fail) and etc. I can not multi-choose a b c at the same time and choose pass/fail for the them at one time. I have to choose pass/fail for each single item. It takes long and my eyes feel uncomfortable staring those blanks for too long.

**What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

inventory management and documentation for experiment reports
I don't need to write a report manually.

  ### 7. starlims 2017

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2017

**What do you like best about STARLIMS?**

A comprehensive program to help multiple labs and sites coordinate data

**What do you dislike about STARLIMS?**

Previously extremely hard to get into due to system errors and sites not allowing the program

**Recommendations to others considering STARLIMS:**

Great work changing to login platform to make it easier to get to

**What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to share multi-site study data easily and pull information needed

  ### 8. Associate Lab Tech 2

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa P. | Laboratory Technician II, Pharmaceuticals, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2017

**What do you like best about STARLIMS?**

It's easy to record the moment and amount used of samples once you are trained.

**What do you dislike about STARLIMS?**

There are so many features, it can be hard to find stuff sometimes.

**What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the need for paper trails because it is all electronic.

  ### 9. Great database, but very cumbersome at times

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Masooma Z. | Research and Development, Consumer Goods, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 06, 2016

**What do you like best about STARLIMS?**

The ability to store a lot of information about a product as well as the tracking of sample from site to site.

**What do you dislike about STARLIMS?**

Not being able to customize reports. I wish that was an option

**Recommendations to others considering STARLIMS:**

It takes a while to get used to the whole software and know how to utilize it efficiently but once you do, it's great!

**What problems is STARLIMS solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am preparing reports for stability of food products and realize the tracking that Starlims provides is great for audits.
