What surprised me most is how much it actually feels like being in the same office. I expected just another video call tool with a cute map on top, but the sense of presence is real. I can see who’s around, who’s focused and who’s free, and just walk my avatar over to ask a quick question. No scheduling, no “got a minute?” message followed by twenty minutes of waiting.

Our team is split between development, infrastructure and client support, and those quick hallway conversations were exactly what we lost working remotely. SoWork brought them back. Problems that used to turn into a meeting on the calendar now get solved in two minutes at someone’s “desk.”

I also love that the AI meeting notes are built in, so I don’t have to choose between paying attention and taking notes, and that we could design the office layout to match how our team actually works. Honestly, not much, and the things I’d point out are more growing pains than real problems. It took a little time for the whole team to adopt the habit of “showing up” in the office every day. A few people were used to working heads-down in Slack and needed a couple of weeks to get comfortable being visible and approachable. Once that clicked, it worked great.

I’d also love to see more native integrations with the tools we use daily. We still jump between SoWork and some other systems more than I’d like, and having more of that context inside the office would make it even better. So work is so easy in terms of having interactivity between remote working teammates, and also have privacy in a heartbeat. Being able to arrange the office as we like it allows us to have team sections and private sections suitable to any work style. Integrations with Google Calendar also help us see when one of us is busy, it's like being in the same office! It's also easy on the computer or Mac, not taking up any extra resources. We're a fully remote software team of 9, and the biggest thing SoWork fixed was the friction around small conversations. On Slack, a quick question meant either scheduling a call or writing three paragraphs. In SoWork you just walk over — proximity audio lets conversations start and end naturally, the way they do in a real office.

The interface is the reason adoption worked. Setup took under an hour and the whole team was in on day one with no training. Nobody needed a walkthrough; people just understood where they were and how to reach someone.

It also sits alongside our existing stack instead of replacing it. We still run async work in Slack, and SoWork integrating with it meant nobody had to abandon a tool they already depended on.

Performance has held up well — audio and video stay stable with the whole team in the space at once, which wasn't true of everything we tested.

The AI meeting summaries are the standout feature for us. Recorded calls come back as notes we can actually skim, so anyone who missed a call catches up in two minutes instead of sitting through a 40-minute recording.

The main gap for us is reporting. There's no built-in end-of-day check-in and no way to export a month of activity per person, so pulling together what each teammate worked on still happens manually outside the tool. I raised it with the team and it's apparently close to launching, but it's not there today.

On pricing: there is a free tier, but the audio-only limit and the 30-minute meeting cap mean it works better as a trial than as a real workspace, so most teams will end up on a paid plan fairly quickly.
