As a BI and Reporting Practice Director in the Dynamics channel, I have full confidence that the products offered by Solver work for out clients and therefore work for the practice and company. Whether it is Reporting or Budgeting or the Data Warehouse each module delivers value for clients with high adoption rates. When problems do occur, and that is inevitable based on the use cases in the market, the Solver team works tirelessly to resolve each issue in a professional manner. With extremely powerful Reporting and Budgeting tools, my hope is that Solver can leverage the visualization and analytic capabilities of Microsoft Power BI with the toolset and environment. The dashboard piece of the solution set is ok but sufficient for larger or more distributed organizations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

As a report creator for our organization, I have been able to use my Excel skills paired with Solver's robust functionality to create dream come true reports with ease. For other users looking for on demand data pulling, Solver's Ad Hoc Reporting allows for folks to slice and dice the data to get what they need. During our annual budgeting process, Solver's writeback templates and assignments has made creating, reviewing, editing, and finalizing our budget a seamless process. Staff at Solver have a wealth of knowledge and are easily accessible to help provide service when needed. The connection with our ERP is automated and seamless. When migrating to the cloud platform, a few functions were no longer available in the cloud that existed in the on-premises environment. While they are working on building some back, there are a few that have not been rebuilt. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
*I can rely on Solver as a tool to get financial reporting done.
*The API to powerBI has worked flawlessly so far.
*User's ability to load their forecasts and budgets directly into the scenario.
*Security is easy to implement
*Security settings staying constant throughout all the different modules e.g., reporting archive, input template, etc.
*I like the role that was created in Solver for more technical customer support without having to escalate questions/needs e.g., Steve Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
*Data Explorer's load time is slow. I'd like the initial view limited to 100 records to speed it up.
*Unable to control the report archive for my users. I want to be able to delete reports in their archive, similar to being an admin in a workspace.
*Parameter naming is inflexible. I had an issue where a previous report creator was using 'periods' and I was using 'period'. This created a confusing extra period filter in the report archive for users. To fix this, I had to delete the old parameter out of every report and setup a new paramter. Then I had to publish the report to the report archive and now my users have 2x the report because I can't control their archive space.
*Default LID entry in input templates. My users think it's clunky and they constantly make mistakes while using it e.g., leaving the last column cell blank & somehow breaking it by putting a value in the main line (even though I thought that wasn't supposed to be possible... they found a way to break it). I then have to clear out everything, save, and re-enter in the LID section.
*Solver is very slow sometimes or has issues fetching drill-down data or it fails. I'd like to have an indication of when Solver is experiencing a slowdown or issues.
*Customizing a drill-down in a report is cumbersome.
*No way to 'view as' a role. In many programs I admin, I can 'view as' a role so I can interact with the program the way the user is enabled to.
*Auto-save feature for input templates. I had 2 users enter their budgets and not his save this cycle.
*Overhaul the look and UI experience of input templates. I had some users complain that it wasn't "slick looking"... I get that it's Excel, so maybe at least Learning Academy courses on beautifying a report template and best practices for the user experience.
*Maybe I missed this option, but there is no way (?) to get a summary of my publisher jobs for the day so I can see what ran or did not run easily.
*Lack of user community. With many other software programs, users can respond and try to help others, and then an official representative of the software responds occasionally. The Solver community forum is a borderline ghost town.
*Need the ability to lock roles in the planning security section instead of having to lock the entire scenario down
*Metrics on how often reports are viewed and by what users Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love that this syncs to our accounting software daily and we are able to pull and create reports for all our communities in one report/file that would otherwise take us several hours to create. I also appreciate that once we have taken time to create a report, we can pull that for every month, community, etc. that we need! We are in Solver daily to pull the items that we need. This is also a huge component for our budget. The ease of use for budgeting is terrific! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The linking of spreadsheets can be difficut sometimes due to the nature of how solver works. We are usually able to figure it out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We can create almost any report, no matter how users prefer to slice and dice the data. Integrates easily with many of our systems including Business Central. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Takes some time to setup and get right, but works great once ready. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Solver’s user-friendly interface and customizable reporting features are the most helpful aspects for me. The ability to easily create, modify, and distribute reports allows for more efficient data analysis and decision-making. Additionally, Solver’s integration with various data sources streamlines the process, making it easier to consolidate information and gain insights quickly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One of the least helpful aspects of Solver is its occasional complexity in setup and configuration. While it offers powerful features, getting everything optimized and customized to fit specific business needs can sometimes be time-consuming, especially for users without technical expertise. Additionally, some of the advanced features require a steeper learning curve to fully utilize.
The main downsides of using Solver include the initial implementation effort and the occasional difficulty in troubleshooting issues. Integrations with other systems, while valuable, can sometimes lead to compatibility challenges or slowdowns. Additionally, depending on the version or package, certain advanced features might come with higher costs, which could limit accessibility for smaller teams or organizations with tighter budgets. Solver has helped us completely transform our budgeting process. Once we understood how report and input forms are created and managed it has pretty much allowed us to see the information we need to see quickly and gave us the ability to share those reports with those who need them the most. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It definitely has its quirks. If we are using two different input forms and they are not programmed to save in the exact same way we end up with a lot of duplicated data. Lesson learned on our end. Also, when working with Solver employees to help us figure out why a form isn't working the way we think it should be, they are not always the most responsive. Ease of report customization, Excel based reports.
Integration setup is simple to modify when adding/modifying accounts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
When having to print to distribute I would like to stack my reports and send to PDF in a packet instead of having to save each individually.
I would like data updated to run faster or have live data link.
Delay in support from our BC partner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Solver has helped to streamline reporting. Data can be organized quickly and easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The most challenging part of Solver is getting started. The sky is the limit once you become comfortable with the software! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is a lot of customization. We have an incredibily difficult report that has routinely been created manually. The Solver team has worked hard to integrate our ERP system with Solver to customize and create this report automatically. This is a significant enhancement for us and improves efficiency. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The implementation process has been very slow. The work has been challenging, but we have been paying for a tool that we have not been able to fully use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love the data warehouse functionality coupled with the ease of use of the Excel interface. I was already proficient in Excel so I didn't need to learn a whole new program to build reports with the data we have in Solver. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The initial setup was rocky for us becuase the Solver pros didn't understand our data and how we use it, and we didn't initially understand the ins-and-outs of how Solver is set up. Now that we understand the program we are making changes to set it up the best way for us but it is more difficult to make those changes after the fact. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
