## Smartling Reviews
 ### 1. Smartling has been a solid translation management platform for our localization needs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rupak R. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Smartling’s automation capabilities are its biggest strength. The integrations with tools like GitHub, CMS platforms, and marketing tools significantly reduce manual effort. The translation workflows are well thought out, and the in‑context editing feature helps translators see how content will actually appear, which improves quality a lot.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The learning curve can be a bit steep at the beginning, especially for users who are new to translation management systems. Some advanced features require time to fully understand and configure correctly.
Pricing can also feel on the higher side compared to simpler tools, which may be a concern for small teams or startups. A bit more flexibility/customization in reporting would be a nice improvement.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling helps us scale translations without sacrificing quality. It eliminates a lot of manual coordination between developers, content writers, and translators. Automation, translation memory, and glossary management ensure consistency across languages while saving time and cost.
It’s especially useful for managing frequent content updates in a structured and predictable way.

 ### 2. Effortless Translation and Super Support from Smartling team

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ekaterina K. | Marketing Operational Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 13, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I use Smartling as our main platform for translations, and I really enjoy the automation it provides to reduce the time for translation delivery. The all-in-one platform is easily managed, which is a big plus for our company. I also appreciate the progressing quality of the translations. It's fantastic that Smartling enables us to translate marketing assets into 49 global languages, significantly saving us time in the translation turnaround process. Another thing I really like is the support system – our Customer Success manager is always around to help answer any questions, and the support team is amazing. Additionally, the setup process was overall very quick and easy, despite the size of our company.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The current formats that we can upload to translate are a bit limited. We need to separate our brands by tone of voice, specific terminology, etc., to make translations clearer, requiring quite some background work to set up before it'll work flawlessly in Smartling.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Smartling to translate marketing assets into 49 global languages. It saves significant time with machine translation, automates local review processes, and lets teams amend translations on original assets with minimal manual effort.

 ### 3. Seamless Multilingual Integration, Excellent Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lukas B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I really value Smartling for its translation quality and GDN capabilities, which we used for our primary informational and sales websites. I appreciate how it allows for near-real-time translations of English source content into more than 15 languages without the need for coding additional pages. Smartling's framework and UI are very well developed, which makes it a premium product. The support team is very attentive and helpful at all times, and the client service teams are excellent. The drag-and-drop interface for documents is also very convenient.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

We did struggle a bit with form fields and random data being consumed by Smartling; and nailing down the specific rules for each page code / use-case was difficult, but we figured out everything eventually. Also the overall cost is premium-tier, and overages can add up, so be sure to align your project and budget with their team to avoid surprises.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling enables near-real-time translation into 15+ languages without coding extra pages, enhancing our primary informational and sales websites.

 ### 4. Easy to Use, but Poor Support, Surprise Fees, and Translation Errors

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

platform is fairly easy to use, but that's about it. I've not had a great experience overall.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The customer service has not been to the standard we were hoping for. We've had to spend a lot of time arguing with our reps to get what we need or what was promised. When we moved from basic to enterprise we were also not informed about 10% project management fees.

Translations are not always accurate - many times things are wrong. Once a project was translated into the wrong language and not what we requested. Many other times we're needing to have internal reviewers make a lot of edits that their human reviewers missed.

UX is not the most modern looking and is not entirely user friendly. Difficult to manage projects that are uploaded but not submitted, and hard to check/assess if all lines have been picked up by their AI when dealing with larger files.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helpful to be able to manage multiple languages in one upload and to have the approved library to auto translate, but overall it's caused more problems than it's solved with the errors in translation that need to be reviewed and fixed by our team.

 ### 5. Intuitive Dashboard and Visual Context Make Localization Easy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Translation and Localization | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

First of all, the dashboard is easy to understand for the translator, it is intuitive. Also the visual context tab is very helpful, especially for localization of our product where desktop and mobile versions are involved. Automation with Braze for emails is also helpful, it allows to translate all the workload on one platform, and not to open many links as we did before.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

Although I have access as account owner, I mostly use Smartling as a translator, not a project manager. So as a translator I don't see any downsides. I can only assume that as account owner I need a special training because the platform offers great many functions

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work on the project as a subcontractor through a third-party translation company. For me personally Smartling allows to see my statistics (wordcount), the invoicing is automated. Also the context tabs saves a lot of time and effort and allows to prevent many rounds by QA of the product. In comparison to other, mostly proprietary, translation and localization platforms the visual context is mega feature. I cannot provide specific numbers because as a subcontractor I do not see them.

 ### 6. Fast, User-Friendly AI Hub with High-Quality Translations

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marta C. | Localization Quality Program Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

It is fast and user-friendly, and the AI Hub is just so easy to set up and use. I was able to set up a profile and workflow with my company Gemini key in minutes and the raw translations we get are of great quality. A feature I also love is that Smartling shares the name of individual translators, so I always know who is giving us great quality and who needs more coaching.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

TM capabilities for bulk updating TM content are not great. Also, when using the LQA Suite for off-production LQA, there is no easy way to see the instructions that the original translation job had (you have to go back and forth between the original job and the LQA job)

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Smartling both as a TMS and for language services, so my company is virtually run on Smartling.

 ### 7. Good for Technical Translations, Streamlined Setup

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexandra G. | Senior Marketing Manager Europe, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I use Smartling for corporate website and print copy translations, and it helps me translate our content consistently into our two main European languages. Most translators are good at understanding our technical background and can convey the message and meaning rather than translating the exact words. This reduces the time my coworkers and I spend reviewing and editing what Smartling sends back. The quality of the translations, ease of use for all of our team members, and consistent turnaround times were major reasons for switching to Smartling. The initial setup was very easy; we only had to send our glossaries in our core languages and brand guidelines, and it was set up. We got a training session and were ready to go.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

Depending on which translator works on our translation, the style can sometimes be heavier and not flow as naturally. Also, when dealing with technical terms, they sometimes over-translate, not taking into account that some words make more sense to our audience in English than in their own language. Also, as LLMs improve, my prompting becomes more precise, and depending on the translator/editor, I sometimes find that LLMs handle the flow better and have a better understanding of the terms our audience uses, making the text sound more native. While French and German are pretty good, we are struggling more with other languages, where we do fewer translations and don't have a dedicated internal reviewer to train Smartling's teams on our expectations for these languages.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Smartling to ensure fast, consistent translations into our 2 key European languages.

 ### 8. Helpful, Timely Support and Flexible Translations—But UI Feels Dated and Pricey

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Human Resources | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I appreciate the dedication to evolving with the times, especially in the age of AI. There are many features and translation options that can vary by language, which makes it easy to customize. Having the GDN support when there was no dedicated localization manager was also so helpful. I can also say that the support was always timely and accommodating.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

I find the UI/UX to be quite dated and clunky compared to other enterprise TMSs. I also think it's a bit expensive, again compared to other offerings. I also think there should be regex feature in the search bar for more advanced search options. I also felt there was a lot of admin. I didn't havea. ton of control. Even when I wanted to give permissions to an external agency, I always had to go to the CSM. I didn't have a lot of freedom.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem Smartling solved was our website localization and having the option of using a GDN when there was no dedicated localization manager. For this, the cost value performance was ideal and fast.

 ### 9. Works ok overall, but GitHub integration and Markdown support is spotty

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Integrations got better over the last year, namely with GitHub. There are still some issues with it. Changes in configurations quickly hit the GitHub API rate limits, and forces the content to be fully re-processed again, which tends to take a bit to time to get it done.
Although the interface seems a bit outdated, it simply works. It seems that function over aesthetics is the option, which is positive.
Pricing tends to be high, namely for AI based translation, which becomes highly expensive quickly. So if you are looking at Smartling to have it for a AI translation only tool, do check the pricing, there might be better alternatives for AI powered translations. When we used the AI based translations the quality was ok-ish. Our content tends to be more on the technical side, and sometimes it would be a hit and miss.
In terms of support and customer success or account managers, I'd say that the rotation is high and frequently changes. On the support side of things things tend to be solved, however sometimes they just take time.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

Some issues, namely with the GitHub integration have been reported for several years. Markdown support is spotty at best. We ended up developing a custom transformation to another format that Smartling handles better.
Although it is mentioned that Smartling supports the GitHub flavored markdown, that is not entirely true. Task lists, and others are poorly supported and end up messing up the content.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For us, at this point Smartling is a tool to support the human translation process. By using the GitHub integration we were able to build a fully automated pipeline that takes translated content and publishes on the website. On the other hand, every time the source content is changed, the updates are pushed to Smartling automatically.

 ### 10. Feature-Packed, Easy-to-Use Platform with Seamless Sitecore Translation Integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jim M. | Manager of Digital Optimization, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Smartling is a feature-packed platform that is very clean, versatile, and easy to use. We're able to push and pull translations easily between Sitecore (our CMS) and Smartling, making it very easy to translate our content-heavy site quickly.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

I honestly can't think of anything I dislike about Smartling. Their sales process is very transparent and forthcoming with information (especially compared to other competitors in their space), their support team is very responsive, and the platform itself integrates easily with our CMS and even allows us to translate content that doesn't exist on a webpage. They are so easy to work with that we've transitioned all of our translation work to them.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed to translate a 2,200+ page website into Spanish and do it as quickly as possible in order to serve a previously untapped market. Smartling helped us connect to their translation engine and automate the entire process. As a result, we went from a Spanish website with only 38 pages to a site that has 1:1 English/Spanish content with over 2,200 pages, and we did it three months. Our web conversions among Spanish speakers continues to grow at a rapid, sustainable pace.

 ### 11. Efficient Localization with Room for UI Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laura S. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I like the ability to choose the level of human involvement in Smartling. I find Smartling's transcreation service a valuable offering because it gives us access to native speakers who are thoughtful about how to convey the meaning of the text without getting stuck on a literal translation that might not be appropriate.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The dashboard interface could be more aesthetically pleasing. It sometimes requires more clicks than we'd think necessary to drill down to the info we want. The setup isn't 100% intuitive. More importantly, the process of creating a library of strings from previously translated materials was opaque and cumbersome.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling provides fast, reliable localization in multiple languages, crucial for our marketing materials. It offers valuable transcreation services with native speakers, ensuring textual meaning is conveyed thoughtfully.

 ### 12. Powerful Localization Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I use Smartling for the localization of 70+ software products, which helps streamline and optimize the process. I find the CAT tool to be powerful, and I appreciate the great visual context and linguistic assets it provides. Our initial setup with Smartling went well, and we've been using it for over 10 years, connecting it to our internal CMS, Braze and Figma.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

I’ve found the AI implementation isn’t fully adaptable, and it took a while to get to a point where it’s now working mostly well. That said, their business model of charging per word feels counter-intuitive in a fast-paced AI world, where you generally want to ship more—and faster.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling helps streamline and optimize the localization process for over 70 software products in a steady and well-performing environment.

 ### 13. Job Transparency, Needs Visual Improvements

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harshit A. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I use Smartling for the translation process in our company. It quite nicely gives me an overview of the translation phase and jobs. I like the overall look and feel, with great use of space. Pretty much everything is quite accessible, making it a breeze to use.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

There are a lot of columns that feel redundant or require too focused input. Job transparency is great, but when you are actually in the job it feels quite overwhelming due to so many strings and little to no visualizations. It doesn't feel like where and how the context will be placed. Also, the initial setup was challenging.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling provides a good overview of translation phases, making everything easily accessible at any step, though some visualization of context placement would be helpful.

 ### 14. Great Visual Context and TM Tools, but Pricing and AI Feel Limited

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Visual context and some of the integrations have proven to be some of the best features Smartling has. The way glossaries/term bases are handled and the easiness to revisit translation memories is also a plus.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

Unfortunately, the pricing model makes it less competitive. It also lacks some of our most used integrations, plus the usage of AI with the platform is quite limited compared to other alternatives.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were struggling with the website content and luckily Smartling integrated seamlessly with Contentful, which meant we could get our website localized and sorted in no time. That meant reducing our time dedicated to this by more than 50% and achieving greater quality, plus being able to track down typos and apply fixes almost immediately.

 ### 15. Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simone L. | Senior Project Manager & UX Lead | Localization Task Force, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2026

 ### 16. Smooth Integration and Great Job Visibility with Human-Powered Translations

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** indumeet s. | Full Stack Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

The implementation and upgrades were smooth, and visibility into each job is excellent. I also appreciate that real people are working behind the scenes on the translations. That human involvement helps reduce mistakes, especially with very high-end content.
Customer Support is good and reliable, and the integrations are easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

There isn’t really much to dislike, apart from the fact that the product sometimes needs expert intervention. I also think the dashboard interface could be simplified to make it easier for users.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work for a global company with a site in more than 10 languages. Smartling has made the content translation workflow much easier by providing reliable, human translation, which reduces the team’s effort and time spent auditing and proofreading translated content.

 ### 17. Efficient Translation with Seamless GitHub Integration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nishanth N. | Engineering Leader, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 08, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I like the integrations Smartling has with GitHub and the flows they integrate into our processes. It's the best part because it allows us to seamlessly integrate our software flows with Smartling, saving time that would otherwise be spent on custom software and manual jobs. A GitHub pull request is automatically created, and the Smartling API supports that process.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The dashboard and the smartling jobs and configurations can get a little bit tedious and could be simplified. The documentation can be a little bit better.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling makes translations easy. User-facing text in our apps is seamlessly translated and integrated into workflows. With the GitHub integration, it automates tasks that would otherwise require manual input, saving time and effort.

 ### 18. Enhances Localization with Ease but Needs Better Machine Translation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Furkan B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I find Smartling easy to translate with, which makes it very user-friendly. I especially like the Google Drive connector; it helps maintain consistent styling in translated files, preventing broken links and styling. It speeds up the workload for other teams by making the translation process faster and more efficient. Also, the support from the Customer Success Managers made the initial setup easy, and the onboarding was good.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The improvement can be done on the machine translation. Sometimes it can be a lack of localization and yeah. That can be the main problem.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Smartling for translating and localizing digital marketing materials, ensuring content resonates with different regions. The Google Drive connector simplifies the process, maintaining consistent styles and enabling faster workloads.

 ### 19. Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bruno V. | Senior Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

 ### 20. Efficient Translation with Trustworthy Results

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brook M. | Customer Training Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I like how easy it is to submit a request in Smartling and immediately get a cost estimate and an approximate time it will take, with the option for a rush order if needed. It's great to feel confident using Smartling for our complex pages. I appreciate that you can have different buckets for projects, which works well since marketing and I have separate tasks. I also like getting emails when a source string is opened, allowing me to quickly see and respond to issues. It's reassuring to know that a person is reviewing my articles and sending feedback.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

I do think the interface could be a little more user-friendly. There are different buckets, and once you get in, every once in a while, I'll get lost and have to go back to the main page, where I'm familiar with the path to get to my items. I also wish that the source string that it were a little easier to view when you go to the content page. It's usually a muted color, and I wish that wasn't the case.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling makes it easy to submit translation requests and get quick cost estimates and timelines. It offers rush options and handles complex pages, which gives me confidence over using alternatives like ChatGPT.

 ### 21. Intuitive and Efficient Terminology Management

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeff B. | Quality Lead, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I use Smartling for managing and translating marketing and product content, and I find its layout and intuitiveness really beneficial. It facilitates my daily routine, especially with the terminology management feature where linguists can propose new terms to be added to our glossary, and I can easily approve or reject them. I also appreciate how it helps me send new terms for translation into many languages. The platform is intuitive, which means when new linguists join the team, there's no need for extensive training sessions. Compared to other CAT tools, Smartling stands out for me. The initial setup when creating new projects and glossaries was pretty easy and intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

Smartling could improve the way you select terms to be translated. When you need to select multiple terms for translation, when you search for a term using the search bar and select it, you cannot search for another term without deselecting the previously selected term.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Smartling to streamline terminology management, allowing linguists to propose terms easily, which I can approve or reject. It also simplifies translating new terms into multiple languages, and its intuitive layout reduces training time for new team members.

 ### 22. Powerful APIs and automation, but dated UI and added costs for advanced use cases

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Smartling offers an unusually rich set of capabilities for a web‑based TMS. Its APIs, connectors, and job automations are straightforward to work with and make it easy to integrate localization into existing workflows. When you opt into their customer success offering, the support and responsiveness from their team are also very strong.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

To unlock more advanced or non‑standard use cases, you typically need to engage (and pay for) a solutions architect, which adds to the overall cost of ownership. Same goes for most connectors. The platform’s performance can feel sluggish at times, and several parts of the TMS UI and overall experience feel dated compared with newer alternatives on the market.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling helps us streamline and centralize our localization workflow. By connecting our content sources via APIs and connectors, it reduces manual handoffs, speeds up translation delivery, and makes it easier to manage multilingual content at scale. This gives our teams more consistency across locales and frees people up from repetitive operational work so they can focus on higher‑value tasks.

 ### 23. Smartling: customizable and scalable, but with room for improvement in reporting

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Simona F.

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

What I like about Smartling is the ability to make everything very customizable, which is not something that often happens with tools in general, so the ability to truly tailor the tool to the company's needs is very interesting. It is a very positive experience because it helps us define workflows that are much simpler and at the same time scalable, thus potentially complex, while keeping track of the status of each individual step, the quantities, and the volumes. Moreover, the tool is very easy to use, and now we have become super experts.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

Sometimes it is a bit complicated to obtain data, even if it seems they have understood the need to improve this aspect and are working on it, there might be some refinements at the reporting level.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling helps me manage simpler and more scalable translation workflows, keeping track of the status of each step, volumes, and costs.

 ### 24. Efficient Integration and Translation Workflow with Smartling

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abhishek J. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I really appreciate the integrations available with Smartling, as I can connect it with our PIM, CMS, CRM, and even manage translations for files all within the same project. The robust, highly customizable workflows make the translation process smooth by allowing us to tailor and branch them based on various factors, ensuring strings are assigned to the appropriate users. The Translation Memory is also incredibly useful in reducing repetitive tasks, saving time for translators and cutting costs. It's great that Smartling helps bring all translation teams onto the same platform, which improves management.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

I would say they can make the extensions of the integrations more robust. Even though there are a variety of integrations available, the individual integration still sometimes lacks ease of use. They can also improve multi-role user management. We have to always reach out to the Smartling CSM to convert user to multi-role user. Ideally, it should be an easy step, but it is not. Also, instead of users having to switch roles, the UI can be updated in such a way that the user gets a combined view of the roles assigned to them.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Smartling for translation automation, which smooths the workflow with a role-based approach. The integrations with PIM, CMS, and CRM are valuable, and Translation Memory reduces repetitive tasks and costs by bypassing already translated strings, saving time and money.

 ### 25. Good Display, Needs More Intuitive Editing

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexander T. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I like Smartling's display; it's nice to work with. It allows users to see the exact translations and easily search for specific keywords, which is quite helpful. Additionally, Smartling allows for non-developers to edit and update translations, making the process more accessible to different team members.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

I think sending this through GitHub can be improved. Additionally, seeing translations which are live versus previous versions would be helpful. Also, at times the process of editing can be non-intuitive.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling allows non-developers to edit and update translations, making it accessible for my team. The display is nice and helps see exact translations and search easily for specific keywords.

 ### 26. Easy Team Collaboration, but Custom Support Can Be Slow to Ramp Up

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Collaboration is easy across multiple teams of translators, easy to find content in the Smartling app itself

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

We sometimes encounter issues that are difficult to debug and solve ourselves - the Smartling team has dedicated support engineers, but we often have difficulty getting them up to speed on our platform and they sometimes take a bit to get back to us. When implementing custom solutions, the team has more difficulty supporting us.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving our translations across several locales so we dont have to worry about any of that on our end, just use the CDN and it works

 ### 27. Great Connectors, But UI Needs Work

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Masha R. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I like that Smartling supports various connectors, such as GitHub, Contentful, Google Drive, etc. These connectors help us streamline and automate as many workstreams as possible and allow us to minimize manual updates.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The UI can be confusing. I wish there were better notifications or tooltips within it. The search is not great. If I look for something with special characters, it doesn't work well. The initial setup was okay, but I wouldn't say it was easy.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling supports our localization program with various connectors, streamlining and automating workstreams, minimizing manual updates.

 ### 28. Easy-to-Navigate UI with AI-Powered Translation and Proofreading

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Easy to navigate the UI. Performance is enhanced due to the integration of AI translations. Integrating the proofreading stage for markets enhances the translations quality.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

While AI translations are quick, they might not be accurate for all languages. In that case, it takes ages for the market to proofread and fix the translations, which is pretty counterproductive to the issue it's supposed to solve when human intervention becomes a necessity.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick translations, integrations with tools and platforms for ease of import, easy to use, troubleshooting issues.

 ### 29. Good CAT tool, high volume of orders, and friendly PMs

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Barbara V. | Freiberufliche Übersetzerin, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I have been working almost daily with Smartling since 2019, initially through an agency and, after its closure, directly for Smartling since September 2024. I work both as a translator and as an editor, revising machine translations, and occasionally I take on assignments for other tasks. I am part of many fixed teams, so I regularly translate for the same clients. This is not only more pleasant for me (because you get to know the style guide, the products, the glossary, etc. after a while), but it also benefits the quality.
The volume of work is good and ranges from tiny jobs with fewer than ten words to jobs with several tens of thousands of words. The PMs are friendly and usually respond quickly. The CAT tool is very responsive, which I like. In my experience, MemoQ and Phrase are somewhat slower. Of course, there are always bugs that change every few months and can be more or less annoying. Nevertheless, the CAT tool is my favorite, and I wish I could use it for projects for other clients as well. In particular, the search function works better than the competition.
Thanks to the Live Invoice, where jobs appear a few minutes after submission, you always have a good overview of the monthly earnings. Only jobs that are done on an hourly rate basis appear on the last day of the month.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The PMs sometimes have unrealistic expectations about how many words can be completed in a given time. Sometimes I am contacted about urgent projects that absolutely must be completed urgently, but in most cases, there is no Rush Premium for this.

The CAT tool has some bugs (strings rearrange themselves when you switch pages, so that half of the strings on the page are already loaded, etc.). Previously, you could highlight text and drag it to the next string to copy it there. This hasn't been possible for about two years and is sorely missed.

Validation matches are only paid at half the normal word rate, but often do not require only half the effort. If a translator only receives half the word rate, they logically have to work twice as fast to achieve the same hourly rate. Therefore, no research or inquiries are made for validation matches. In my opinion, the system for detecting which strings should be validation matches does not work very well, and if the translator does not want to pay the price for this (in the form of a lower hourly rate), the customer does so through poorer quality in these strings.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Smartling as a freelancer, not as a client.

 ### 30. Easy-to-use platform for freelance translators

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Valeria B. | Translator/editor/post-editing linguist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Smartling is a very good, user-friendly translation platform, and it is an excellent tool for translators. As a freelance translator, I'm extremely satisfied with Smartling. It provides good customer support in terms of term clarification issues, and PMs are always ready to help with any questions. It also offers new and interesting opportunities for job expansion. The new feature to make previously-opened issues visible is very good.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

AI input sometimes interferes with previously-translated, client-approved and published strings, especially when TMs are very large and for specific clients. However, I think this is something that is still developing and will probably be fixed in the future, so that AI becomes an asset rather than an obstacle. At this early stage, the introduction of AI has resulted in lower rates for linguists, even though we often need to work more for the sake of consistency with previously translated content for specific customers.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I think the Smartling team is always ready to fix any issues and/or bugs translators spot while working on the platform.

 ### 31. Localization at Scale Made Easy for Small Teams

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Features that enable a 1-person or small team to support localization at scale for a large enterprise.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

Lack of "source content" control which makes it a harder to switch to from tools like Phrase Strings or Lokalise. We want to enable non-developers to manage the source language quality of content that we connect to Smartling via GitHub, and that's not possible within the UI today.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making it faster, cheaper, and easier to bring our products to life across new markets and customer segments.

 ### 32. Portuguese Translator using Smartling as a translation platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** André C. | Translator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

The work is always secured on the online platform, and access to standard translation tools and materials (TBs and TMs) is quick and straightforward. All the necessary features are available, and it's possible to ask questions directly to managers and clients, both of whom help support translation projects. Overall, I find it much simpler and intuitive to use compared to other, more traditional tools or platforms, whether they are online or offline.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

This might be a minor issue, but when I export documents for review using my own software, I occasionally notice that the output document scrambles the strings. This makes the review process for the linguist a bit more challenging. Additionally, it would sometimes be helpful to have the option to discuss certain topics with fellow translators, especially when working on different parts of the same project.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling is an online platform that offers everything a translator needs to deliver high-quality work.
Compared to more traditional tools, Smartling's interface is much cleaner and more intuitive, with far less clutter and fewer redundant features.
As a translation service provider, it helps me perform my job every day by streamlining all the usual processes from start to finish.

 ### 33. Fast, Reliable Translation Solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zen B. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I like Smartling for the quick turnaround time on translations, allowing me to get human translation results in no time. This speed helps me perform PR reviews and merge quickly. I also found the initial setup easy thanks to a recorded demo that was easy to follow. I think it's a great product.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

Sometime we get some mishaps in translations. Very rarely.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling provides human translation in no time, helping us perform PR reviews and merge quickly.

 ### 34. Smartling has been an outstanding platform for managing my translation and localization needs

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kittipong K. | Localisation Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Smartling has been an outstanding platform for managing my translation and localization needs. The interface is intuitive, making it easy for both project managers and translators to collaborate seamlessly. I especially appreciate the automation features and integrations, which save us significant time while ensuring consistency across all of our content.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

During quality checks, false positive warnings sometimes occur, which I need to flag before continuing.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problems Smartling Solves:
- Complex project management: Before Smartling, managing multiple translation projects was messy and time-consuming. Smartling centralizes everything into one easy-to-use platform.
- Inconsistent terminology: Their translation memory and glossary ensure that our brand voice stays consistent.
- Slow turnaround times: With automation, I’ve cut down delays and can deliver translated content much faster.
- Lack of visibility: Reporting and dashboards give me transparency into quality and progress.

Benefits:
- I save time by streamlining workflows and reducing manual steps.
- My translation quality has improved through consistency and accuracy.

 ### 35. Amazing platform. Great people behind it. A pleasure to work with.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel M. | Translator & copywriter, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

It really feels like a next-gen CAT tool. Everything integrates well and intuitively. I really dislike going back to Trados or MemoQ now.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

There are 4 things that I dislike:

1. When I hover over a glossary term in the source near the top of the page, the pop-up disappears behind the top pane (job briefing, context, etc.). This requires me to scroll up to see the glossary entry. It would be much more practical if the popup appeared over the top pane instead of disappearing behind it.

2. I'm not a fan of the billing page. It's very hard to check exactly how much I'm getting paid per job, because each job is split into the various weights and no total per job is stated. The quickest way to keep track of the per-job pay is to refresh the billing page a couple of minutes after completing a job and writing down the difference of the total. There should definitely be a more practical/automated way of doing this.

3. The most important one, but likely a client-side issue: the fact that segments aren't usually organized in the same order as in the underlying document. This removes context, and when sentences are split into multiple segments, and then not shown in the correct order, it costs everyone a lot of time communicating back and forth about the context of each partial sentence, especially if there's no screenshot available in the context pane showing the full sentence.

I'm sure there's a good reason for this, but I thought I would mention it anyway because solving it would result in the largest quality and efficiency improvement, in my opinion. If this is strictly a client-side issue, I would urge all clients to keep segments in the correct order as much as possible for optimal quality and efficiency, and to provide screenshots in the context pane whenever possible.

4. This is also a client-side issue, but because it's such a frequent one, I thought I would include it too. Perhaps clients can be urged to pay closer attention to this. It's about the context added per segment in the translation pane. The information entered there is often entirely useless. Especially when no screenshot is available in the context pane. This is causing a large portion of messages back and forth with clients, so making these entries more relevant to the translator would greatly improve efficiency and overall quality.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Honestly, the most important problem Smartling is solving, is offering me enough work. The CAT tool is better than others, but it doesn't solve any problems for me that other CAT tools don't solve as well.

 ### 36. Robust Translation Tool with Room for UI Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Søren K.

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I find Smartling's cloud-based nature incredibly beneficial because it ensures that my work is secure while also being easily accessible and shareable with my team. The configurable workflows are a standout feature, enabling us to seamlessly handle some translation jobs internally while efficiently coordinating with external vendors for others. Additionally, the glossary management function is invaluable for maintaining brand consistency and enhancing the quality of machine translation/AI translations. These features collectively elevate the overall translation process, making Smartling a crucial tool in managing our multilingual communications effectively.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

I find the navigation a bit clumsy, as I often end up with multiple Smartling tabs open and lose track of them, which disrupts my workflow. Additionally, some settings are quite opaque and resemble a black box, limiting my ability to fully configure things to my liking, such as Smartling Translate.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Smartling to translate our SaaS platform into multiple languages, creating, maintaining, and quality checking translations securely. The cloud-based features and glossary management ensure brand consistency and improve translation quality, while configurable workflows allow handling tasks internally or with vendors.

 ### 37. Stable platform with responsive PMs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Giovanni F. | Freelance Translator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I have been collaborating with Smartling for several years. What I appreciate most is the stability and reliability of the platform, which provides a clear and organized interface for managing translation work. Equally important is the support from the project managers, who are consistently responsive, attentive, and ready to assist whenever needed. This combination of a solid platform and professional, approachable PMs makes collaborating with Smartling a smooth and dependable experience.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

One aspect that could be improved is the platform’s speed when handling very large projects, as it can occasionally feel slow. Overall, the interface is clear and functional, but optimizing performance for bigger workloads would enhance the user experience.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling helps centralize translation projects in one platform, making it easier to track ongoing work. It provides a clear overview of assignments, deadlines, and progress, which helps me plan my work more effectively. The platform also facilitates communication with project managers, ensuring that any questions or issues are addressed promptly. Overall, it allows me to collaborate efficiently and stay organized across different projects.

 ### 38. A very modern, efficient and friendly platform.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Patricia V. | Freelance Translator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

One of the standout aspects of Smartling is its highly intuitive and linguist-friendly layout. This is a rare and invaluable feature in the localization industry, where many tools tend to prioritize project management functionalities over usability for translators. Smartling, however, strikes an impressive balance, ensuring that linguists can work in a streamlined and efficient environment without unnecessary complexity.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

I did experience an issue at one point with strings being chopped, which caused some inconvenience in the translation process. However, the good news is that the Smartling team acted very quickly to resolve the issue, demonstrating their commitment to improving user experience and addressing concerns efficiently.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The platform’s glossary and translation memory (TM) functionalities are particularly well-designed. The ability to reference the glossary in real-time and leverage the TM seamlessly enhances translation consistency and quality. Additionally, the real-time source view is an indispensable feature that allows translators to work with full context, significantly reducing errors and ambiguities.

Another key advantage of Smartling is how it fosters productivity. The platform is designed to minimize repetitive tasks and streamline workflows, which allows linguists to focus on delivering high-quality translations efficiently. The ability to leave comments on specific strings whenever doubts arise is extremely useful, as responses are typically provided in a short timeframe. This ensures that translation queries are resolved quickly, minimizing workflow interruptions.

 ### 39. what I like and what could be improved for Smartling

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julia Z. | Translator, Pharmaceuticals, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

1. Ease of Use and Accessibility
It’s simple to start working anytime and anywhere, which is perfect for managing tasks on the go. There’s no complicated setup—just log in and get to work.

2. Speed and Performance
Smartling is faster than other platforms, saving translations quickly even in areas with poor internet. This reliability in low-bandwidth environments is a big advantage.

3. User-Friendly Interface
The interface is clean and intuitive, making it easy to navigate and focus on translation work without distractions.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

1. Task Disappearance and History Access
Occasionally, tasks with content that’s already saved disappear before the submission deadline, which disrupts workflow, and I’m unable to control this or include it in the invoice.

2. Translation Subject Categories and Word Count
I’d like to see the average translation speed, topics and corresponding word counts of past translation jobs, as well as an overview of my overall past workload. This feature would help me track progress and better manage future projects.

3.Delay in Email Notifications
There’s a slight delay in email notifications when tasks are posted, which can affect timely responses and project management.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Equipment limitations.I can switch between multiple devices without worrying about losing files. When I'm on the go, I can switch to a lighter device.

 ### 40. All-round efficient platform for translators

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vasaporn C. | English-Thai-Japanese Translator/Interpreter, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I have been working as their translator for quite some time. The platform is clean, easy to use, and packed with helpful features such as automatic glossary checking and a solid AI engine, while still remaining uncluttered. Payments are automatic and seamless—probably the best payment system in the industry.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The language I translate into, Thai, is not fully supported by the platform, as it erroneously flags a large number of Thai sentences as containing spelling errors. This is merely an inconvenience since I can easily ignore these alerts. Otherwise, there are no real downsides to working with Smartling.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling streamlines the entire translation workflow by providing an integrated platform with automated quality checks, glossary enforcement, and AI support. This reduces manual review time and helps maintain consistency across projects. The automated payment system also eliminates administrative work, ensuring I can focus entirely on translation without worrying about invoicing or follow-ups.

 ### 41. Great Zendesk Connectors, but a Cumbersome UI and Weak Search

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

It's nice that Smartling can connect directly to our Zendesk instance. The connectors it provides are valuable.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The interface isn't always great. It's cumbersome to switch between products and the search feature is really bad. I had to submit 92 dynamic content for translation and it took me over two hours because of the search function.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling is allowing us to localize to many different languages. This allows us to offer our products in more countries.

 ### 42. A great experience working with Smartling

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maria A. C. | Freelance translator EN - IT, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I've had a great experience working with Smartling as a professional linguist. The platform is truly exceptional. What I appreciate most is the user-friendly interface and the visual context feature. Being able to see my translations in real-time on a webpage or in an app is a game-changer for ensuring quality and accuracy. The way Smartling integrates all necessary resources, like translation memory and glossaries, directly into the workspace makes my job much more efficient. The overall workflow is seamless and professional.
Smartling provides a top-tier environment for linguists to deliver their best work.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

While my overall experience with Smartling has been excellent, I have recently noted a decrease in the volume of assignments, which has made it difficult to maintain a consistent income. I am hopeful this is a temporary issue, as this agency is, without a doubt, the best I have worked with.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling fundamentally solves the problem of inefficient and fragmented translation workflows. By providing a unified, cloud-based platform, it centralizes all the tools and resources a linguist needs, from the CAT tool to translation memory and glossaries. I can manage all my assignments from a single dashboard, eliminating the hassle of juggling multiple files and platforms. The platform’s visual context and integrated resources help me deliver more accurate and context-aware translations. The automation and organized structure save me time on administrative tasks, allowing me to focus on the actual translation. In short, Smartling makes my work more efficient and my final output better.

 ### 43. Gets the job done fast, even if some features feel limited

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ebrahim M. | Linguist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

The editor is clean, loads fast. It allows me to begin working immediately without unnecessary technical friction. It is intuitively designed, with a clean layout that facilitates focus on the text rather than the tool. the in-context preview make UI strings way less guessy.

The reviewer functionality is well thought out. Comments, mentions, and edit suggestions integrate seamlessly into the workflow, enabling efficient collaboration with other linguists and project managers.
QA checks catch the usual landmines (placeholders, numbers, punctuation) without getting in the way of the linguist.
The auto-propagation of identical strings significantly reduces repetitive work and increases overall efficiency.
Glossary suggestions appear promptly, and the concordance search is particularly effective when I need to maintain tonal or stylistic consistency across projects.
Overall, Smartling provides a stable, efficient environment that supports both productivity and linguistic quality.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

In some cases, the availability of contextual information is limited. Missing screenshots, incomplete metadata, or lack of detailed source notes make it more challenging to deliver precise translations, particularly for UI strings or marketing content.
The absence of an offline working mode can also be limiting, especially when internet connectivity is unstable.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By centralizing projects in a single platform, it removes the need for constant file transfers, version control checks, and manual updates. This streamlined process ensures that I am always working with the latest source content and avoids duplication of effort.
Automated QA checks further reduce the risk of errors in formatting, placeholders, and numbers, which in turn shortens review cycles and increases quality.

The platform also facilitates collaboration. Project managers, translators, and reviewers can interact in real time through comments and suggestions, which reduces miscommunication. With context previews Smartling also addresses a common challenge for linguists working with UI and digital content, ensuring that translations are accurate, concise, and user-friendly.

 ### 44. Great client to work for

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Henry P. | Freelance translator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I like the variety of end clients, the variety of jobs I get. It's a mix of small jobs and bigger jobs, which is nice. Small jobs don't take up more time than they should, as they're just a click away in the dashboard, with no extra steps required. Jobs are assigned automatically, no emailing back and forth needed, and you don't miss work because you're not always monitoring your email. Declining jobs you can't handle is easy and nobody faults you, and you can mark yourself unavailable whenever you need a break or can't handle any more work.
The platform is easy to use, the translation process is straightforward in a decent online CAT tool, which TM, MT, AI and a glossary being available. Instructions and style guides are usually available with every task, just a button click away. A preview is often available, giving you the right context for each string. And if that's not enough, context/instructions per string are often also available.
The CAT tool is fast enough, faster than any other CAT tool I've used (which all sometimes have trouble keeping up with my pace).
Invoicing and payment is automatic, all you have to do is download your monthly invoice for your own administration.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

I don't always like the direct assignment of jobs, without checking my availability first. It can become too much, because you also have work from other clients, or because Smartling is just assigning too much too fast. Whatever you can't handle, can be declined though, and you can pause assignment altogether.
The only payment option available is Veem, from which you have to forward your money to your own bank account. Really wish they'd provide more options, at least bank transfer (a local bank transfer to a Wise account is free!)

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm a translator, I just get work from Smartling and do it in their tool. Smartling doesn't solve any problems for me that I didn't already have solutions for.

 ### 45. A flexible and efficient platform that acts on feedback

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexandra K. | Freelance Translator and Editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

As a translator, I like the flexibility of work which only improved with the introduction of the Upcoming queue. Seeing when each job is due and what's coming up (and when) really helps planning ahead.

Lately, I've seen more interface improvements and I am sure many of them come from linguists' feedback. Now I can easily follow translation issues raised by others and even see related issues. It saves time and reduces the number of emails. It is nice to see these useful little features regularly being introduced, enhancing the platform, but not bulking it up.

Invoicing is fully automated and the interface is clear and pleasant. Tech support answers quickly and works efficiently, and the team of project managers is very helpful, perfectly balancing personal approach with professionalism.

And, of course, I love the content I work with. It is practical in the sense that it will go out there to help people and businesses. Plus, I learn a lot from it too. :)

Something I once learned from a Smartling job is kaizen, the concept of continuous improvement, and I think its presence in this platform is what I like the most.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The Search feature on the left-side panel can only work across multiple jobs within one project, but not across all projects, making some updates rather difficult.

Updating the translation memory (TM) can also be time-consuming because it doesn't happen in the same interface. I really hope to see the TM available in the usual editor.

The editor sometimes struggles with large jobs containing hundreds of strings. Instead of limiting each page to 100 strings, it will keep going, loading 2-3 pages on 1.

High-fuzzy matches can be too persistent in large jobs, overwriting new translations with legacy TM versions.

**Recommendations to others considering Smartling:**

If you are looking for a translation platform that keeps up with the times, this is certainly one of them.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling allows me to do the job I love without commuting to the office. It offers great flexibility and a robust set of tools to make the translation process more efficient. A lot of agencies expect freelancers to bring their own CAT tools, while Smartling offers a modern platform with a fairly steady supply of work and helpful support.

 ### 46. AI and humans working together - as it should be

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

I enjoy working with Smartling because I don't only work on a very good platform but I get to work with real people.
The platform itself is easy to use. Getting the right glossary terms recommended is extremely helpful. While the AI translation is not always 100% right, it does make most jobs much easier.
What I enjoy most is the team behind the platform, though, because I feel taken seriously. We can actually discuss options for translations that benefit the end client, not just the platform's customers.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

It can happen that the system gets slowed down when there is a huge amount of traffic and you're working on a very large file. Those are extremely rare, so this is usually not an issue at all.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The smooth integration of the TM means that translations are consistent across jobs. That is very important. The AI feature can help with formatting numbers, which it can do much quicker than a human translator. The quality checks help deliver the best translation possible.

 ### 47. A Complete and Intuitive Platform for Seamless Localization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Trinidad L. | Semi-Senior Project Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

Smartling is a very complete and intuitive platform that makes project management smooth and efficient. It centralizes everything we need, from translation memory and glossaries to QA checks, automated workflows, and real-time project tracking. The ease of use stands out, even for new team members who can quickly get familiar with the system.
Integrations are seamless, which saves time and reduces manual work. Their project managers are also a huge plus: communication is always clear, fast, and collaborative.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

There's very little to dislike, but if I had to mention something, it would be that because the platform has so many features, it sometimes takes a bit of time to discover everything it can do. A few more step-by-step guides or in-app tooltips for new functionalities would make onboarding even easier.

That said, Smartling's customer support is excellent: responsive, knowledgeable, and always willing to help, which more than compensates for this.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling helps manage multilingual content at scale by centralizing workflows, ensuring consistency, and reducing manual effort. It streamlines file handling, translation memory leverage, glossary application, and QA checks, which means we can deliver faster without sacrificing quality.
The platform also provides real-time visibility into project status, making it easier to track progress and collaborate with clients.
From a business perspective, this translates into improved efficiency, higher quality output, and a stronger ability to meet tight deadlines.

 ### 48. The best company to work with as a freelance translator

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maude B. | Traduction et révision, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

As a freelance translator, Smartling is a dream to work with. The communication, the workflow, the available work and the CAT tool are great. Everything goes smoothly. I can focus on translating and delivering translation. No time is wasted, and there is just no fuss at all. I highly recommend this company!

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

I really enjoy working with this company, so there is not much that I dislike. Still, maybe I would only wish some clients would send translations even more regularly, or even though I receive a good amount of work, I still wish sometimes I could tell them that I am available for new files.

**Recommendations to others considering Smartling:**

I encourage you to collaborate with Smartling because they are great to work with. Everything ticks the boxes for me from the ease of use, the quality of support and so much more. They are sincerely the best company I ever worked with. Needless to say, I am a very happy user. So go ahead and work with them, you won’t regret it!

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling is helping businesses by providing translation services, and as a translator, I am more than happy to be a part of that and have the opportunity to translate for them every day.

 ### 49. Great tool for translators and agencies

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Estrella N. | Freelance Translator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

As a translator, I value the strong tools Smartling allows me to use for free. I've worked on huge projects (100k+) words without it crashing down or slowing down my PC, which is a huge plus that not many translation softwares offer. I love having everyting in one place (invitations to new jobs, glossaries, TMs, QAs...). I work with different clients, but the ones that give me the option to use Smartling are my favourites.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

The biggest downside for me was that there was a bug with it when used on iPad. I had a trip coming in and had a couple small jobs that I wanted to take care of on a train ride, but noticed that the spacebar had a bug when using it on the browser on my iPad. It's such a non-issue, but that'd be something to improve in the future.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling is the unified translation platform for me, receiving/accepting jobs via email generates lots of communication waste and can be time-consuming, and Smartling solves that in a well-designed way. I feel translation management systems don't always go the extra mile for UX, so Smartling stands up as one of the best tools I've tried for translation jobs. I also value having integrated tools like TBs, TMs and QAs, which get rid of the need of any additional software.

 ### 50. Intuitive, fast, and user-friendly localization platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Piotr Z. | Translation and Localization Professional, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Smartling?**

As a translator, I really appreciate how Smartling is designed with usability in mind. The interface is clean, fast, and intuitive — it's easy to navigate between strings, use the translation memory, and check context through visual previews. The built-in QA checks are helpful for catching errors early, and I like how the platform supports both machine and human translation in a seamless way. Terminology management and real-time collaboration features make the workflow much more efficient. Overall, Smartling helps me focus on the quality of my work without getting lost in technicalities.

**What do you dislike about Smartling?**

Some advanced features — like context integration or visual mode — may require a bit of time to fully understand or are sometimes inconsistent across projects. Also, the platform occasionally feels a bit heavy when working with very large projects or slow connections, but it's generally stable and reliable.

**What problems is Smartling solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smartling helps streamline and centralize the entire translation process. Instead of juggling multiple files, emails, and tools, I can work directly in one platform that connects everyone involved — project managers, developers, and translators. This eliminates confusion, reduces delays, and ensures consistency across all content. Features like translation memory, glossary enforcement, and visual context improve both speed and quality, allowing me to focus on accurate and context-aware translations. As a translator, this means less guesswork and more time spent on actual translation.
