Smartcat is more than just a CAT tool; it’s both a platform and a portfolio where I can chat with clients and receive reviews. I also like how documents are split into segments, which makes projects easier to organize and manage. Customer Support is responsive and helpful. I get paid through their system, after the buyer makes a payment, I usually receive the money in my wallet within one or two days. I don’t have to follow up with the customer about payment, because Smartcat takes care of that for me. I simply accept projects, complete them, and then wait for the payment from Smartcat. Smartcat is a complete platform, it has basically everything that a language professional may need: an integrated CAT Tool, a marketplace, productivity resources, and it's also a way to receive payments from external clients. The CAT Tool may not seem as fancy and detailed as other standalone tools, but still it's great to use. I also love the productivity resources. Smartcat's paid OCR feature sometimes is way better than Trados', for example. The customer support also never let me down (just once and as soon as I pointed out, they made it better). The payment system. A possible payment date is set after the project is deemed completed and accepted by the client, but the payment date itself means nothing. The clients pay when they want to pay, that's the real thing. I had clients that paid me way before the "due date", and others that I'm still waiting for the payment (after almost six months, because the client took too long to accept the project). Also, I think it should be possible for language professionals to evaluate the clients the same way they can evaluate us. Smartcat has plenty of nice clients, who are responsive and pay you on time, but there also cheap, unhelpful and not-so-willing-to-pay clients, and other professionals should have the right to know that before deciding to work with them. The billing process is a breeze - I mean I did not have to do anything - no invoice to send, it's all automated! No worries for receiving payment for the hard work I did, and no "service fee" deducted from the payment!! Just work hard, get it done on time, and Smartcar will do the rest without subtracting anything from the fee I earned!
