I will say the only thing I do not like is there is a ton of fields in Call Item and Maitenance (cataloging) that we don't use. Mainly just itemcats but we still have the ones we want and need. It'll just be confusing for someone else who needs to learn how to use it. **What do you dislike about SirsiDynix Horizon?** The learner curve is much higher this time around for new users. **What problems is SirsiDynix Horizon solving and how is that benefiting you?** There were no issues from before. I don't know if it's made things easier. Everything we need to catalog with is still there. ### 2. It's not intuitive and it doesn't feel like a guessing game trying to find the task you want to do. Anyone can learn how to use it. **What do you dislike about SirsiDynix Horizon?** The fact that there is more than one way to do a task can be confusing for some people. I was training a new employee and because everyone had a different way to go about it. I wish there was just one clear way to do a task. **Recommendations to others considering SirsiDynix Horizon:** It's a double edge sword having multiple ways to do something. Be careful of how many different ways you create to complete tasks. I wish the graphics were a little more updated however. It still looks old and outdated. **What problems is SirsiDynix Horizon solving and how is that benefiting you?** The benefits are you can see all the details about patrons and the materials. Other libraries can leave notes on a patron's account or on a book for all libraries within the system to see. That feature is extremely helpful. I also like being able to check for a duplicate user. It ensures that no one is trying to make duplicate accounts. ### 3. Good software, heavy on keystrokes (which is a big plus for me) **Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** July 17, 2018 **What do you like best about SirsiDynix Horizon?** I really appreciated the ease of use, and especially the ability to use keystrokes to accomplish tasks. For me, this is really important, but I can see that this isn't always a plus for everyone. **What do you dislike about SirsiDynix Horizon?** The graphic interface could use a rework, but for the type of software, this isn't too big of an issue. **Recommendations to others considering SirsiDynix Horizon:** Learn your keystrokes and learn them quick. It will make the effectiveness of the software so much better! Compare this software to SirsiDynix's other software options. This will be very helpful, especially looking at multiple options from the same company. Their Symphony program has the same end goal, but uses a very different method for attaining that goal (more graphical interface heavy than Horizon, for example). **What problems is SirsiDynix Horizon solving and how is that benefiting you?** Cataloging (encoding metadata) and processing of backlogs. For others within my library group, this software was used for other library solutions: checking in and out books, managing billing services, and especially as the back end database management of the library catalog. ### 4. I found it more user friendly than another program I currently use. **What do you dislike about SirsiDynix Horizon?** What I dislike is that I did experience the system going offline quiet a few times.
