Sigma was one of the first BI platforms to utilize a spreadsheet and formula approach, which does make it more accessible for non-technical users. There are plenty of other tools in the space now offering similar functionality (Hex and Omni to name a few) and said tools have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
- Poor data governance: if you opt to write SQL code instead of building everything with Sigma's built in functions, the data lineage that Sigma provides breaks down completely. If your data team is making changes to a data model, you lack the visibility to identify all of the locations where this model is used if said model is used in any workbook SQL query. We have had to disable custom SQL within our instance due to all of these SIGNIFICANT limitations.
- Difficult to Troubleshoot/Maintain Dashboards: if a column or data model is broken, Sigma will replace that column with a hardcoded error, which makes it nearly impossible to resolve. Moreover, there is no unified view to surface errors in Workbooks-- you have to search through every single workbook page and look for red X's on each table/chart to identify what's wrong. Instead of being able to proactively resolve errors, you'll constantly have business stakeholders raising these issues since the tool doesn't surface these to your data team members in any meaningful way.
- Poor DBT integration: DBT integration is almost non-existent, outside of surfacing column descriptions in a few select areas of the UI. These columns descriptions will not persist, however, if you use Sigma's dataset or data model functionality. There is no semantic layer integration.
- Lack of Simple Polish: Grouping columns of a dataset into logical sections is not available, so you're constantly sifting through a large list of columns to find what you need. Sigma metrics are incredibly basic, cannot be reordered/organized, and don't work with their new data model functionality. Schema refreshes are not performed at any set cadence and there is no ability to schedule a daily schema refresh, leading to data modeling displaying stale views of the data without manually refreshing each one individually.
- Limited API: The API has no functionality to manage Sigma metrics, datasets, or data models. It also lacks the ability to trigger a refresh of a workbook, which would allow our team to build out some functionality to address the lack of data governance within the product.
Sigma seems more concerned with flashy marketing and sponsorships and launching half-baked AI functionality than they are in making meaningful improvements to their product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Sigma is a very Simple and Easy to Use product; it allows you to get started quickly after creating a database connection. I like the ease of use and the intuitive UI for building something quickly.
At our company, we are using it to publish a wise dashboard to refresh the KPIs, while it's also being used by several departments to build their own reporting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Having experience working on Power BI, MSTR, Excel, and Tableau, I think Sigma is lacking in a few complex visualizations and use cases that are achievable using those tools. However, that makes them bulky, while Sigma is a very lightweight tool to get you started.
so if it works for your use case then well and good Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The ability to have separate dashboards for each department and ease of navigating different dashboards. It has been super helpful for our company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Takes a while to download and reset data Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The first thing that stood out to me was how intuitive and user-friendly Sigma Software is. From the moment I started using it, everything felt natural and easy to navigate. The interface is clean and well-organized, making it simple even for those who are not very tech-savvy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes it takes few more seconds to Load but I believe that can be ignored. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It really does work like MS Excel, the interface is user friendly, I was able to learn it quickly and with MS Excel formulas. The workbook makes quick work of separating data and visualizations and I can add data with empty tables and save back to Snowflake if needed. However, I must give the best kudos to our support and customer service. Ben has been instrumental in keeping us up-to-data on changes and additions and when I had questions a real person responded in minutes and made sure to really resolve the problem and not just find a bandaid. That is important to our team!! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I don't really dislike anything about Sigma. There are lots of features that I would like to see but, overall this is a solid product that I recommend to everyone, especially those who are complaining about their Tableau bill. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I love the way that Sigma integrates with our data warehouse and can quickly sync data. Also the ability to live in the cloud is huge, Tableau use to slow us way down to develop new dashboards. Additionally, the abiltity for more users to easily see created dashboards is great. The implementation team was also great, tutorials were quick and easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The downside is the additional compute that we need to use in Snowflake. However, still better than running on our own computers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sigma provides an interface for our company to utilize our sophisticated semantics layer. It's an excel-like interface that turns our non-technical users into data analysts. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sigma is still a relatively young company so there are some QoL features I feel should suggest. They seem to be rolling out new ones every month. Not a giant complaint. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The ability to look forward in time for statistics is a huge key in success. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes I need to log out then back in instead of simply refreshing things. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Once you get the hang of the interface, it's easy to build charts and related data sets in ways that Excel and other aggregators can't perform easily. I also love the AI formula builder integration Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There's a bit of a learning curve to understand the interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
