You can choose only one visual and sound input per recording. This means you can choose to record your screen (virtual) with either your voice or the virtual sound, or choose your webcam with virtual or voice recorder options. I find it incredibly useful to make screen and voice combination recordings for professional use in creating my teaching materials and for qualitative research. For example, I record presentations on my screen with my voice script that I can send to students I supervise. I also record work tasks for team collaboration where you have to explain admin or research processes or protocols that others should follow in the same manner. It makes it easy for team members or students to review in their own time. Since you can save your downloaded video content, it's easy to share using Google Drive or Dropbox. Some files are small enough to email directly while maintaining video quality. The size can be preset before you record. I also apply ShareX to screenrecord analysis I conduct on ATLAS.ti (a brilliant software programme you can use to facilitate analysing qualitative data including text (Microsoft Word or PDF), audio, images and video files). I record analysis processes in case I want to repeat the same processes later. It also captures processes for team collaboration to ensure all team members follow the same procedure for quality and trustworthiness. And its absolutely free!!! No adds, no additional buy-in, and no tracking of personal data or content. **What do you dislike about ShareX?** Because screen recording options are limited to screen vs webcam and virtual sound vs voice recorder, it means that you cannot toggle between options in the same recording. You also have to remember to adjust your preferences on settings or face repeating a recording once you realise which settings you needed! Quick tip: once you set up, check the settings by doing a quick test recording to replay and make sure you have the correct set-up! It takes a bit of tech savvy to install and run updates, but again: it's absolutely FREE and given that, it's absolutely brilliant!!! **Recommendations to others considering ShareX:** Freeware is exactly that! A lot of effort goes into developing and sustaining resources. There are easier to use but pricy options that compare. However, when you use ShareX as a free tool, it's great to appreciate it for what it does offer: incredible screen/webcam and virtual sound/voice recorder options. **What problems is ShareX solving and how is that benefiting you?** Note that using ShareX is asynchronous. It doesn't allow streaming while you record. The benefit of this is that you are able to work offline. Living and working in Southern Africa we often face Internet connectivity issues. I appreciate that I'm able to record my screen (both on- and offline) and that people I work with can download and save materials to watch when possible. It helps not only for self-paced work but also allows working across time zones in a manner conducive to each zone's regular office hours (as long as I send info in advance). It saves me a lot of one-on-one teaching and coaching time since I spend time once-off to record materials that are applicable to multiple individuals and team members. The screen captures are automatically scales down (if needed). It provides a wide ranges of features and shortcut setting for easy screen capturing and recording. **What do you dislike about ShareX?** No audio, but it's meant to replace GIFs so that's ok. There is no feature to record the audio during screen recording and some time this is very difficult. There are lots of different options for users to modify and choose from which allows greater flexibility and potential to obtain what you want. The tool is lightweight and fast to download, taking up minimal system resources. **What do you dislike about ShareX?** The downside to ShareX is also a positive, which is the number of options available to a user. Generally most of these options will not be used but they clutter the user interface massively, which can also cause confusion. For example, you may accidentally record a screenshot rather than produce a screen recording. There is also the occasional bug in the software where the recording button disappears. By default audio isn't recorded and so you have to ensure to set this up. It is also very useful to create GIFs and short videos. The software has many configuration options which allows us to adapt to our needs. I can upload images quickly in imgur, ImageShack, Twitter and other platforms; I can also set a new destination for my captures. **What do you dislike about ShareX?** ShareX could be a little easier to use. I would suggest adding a small tutorial at the beginning of the program's use, in this way the beginners could adapt more quickly to the uses of the program. It would also be very useful to add tips to remember or understand software features. **Recommendations to others considering ShareX:** Despite not being a very friendly software at the beginning of its use, it is highly recommended to have it and learn how to use it. Very useful for documenting projects and making important annotations. Not only can I make screenshots, it also allows me to capture video. It has its own editor, which presents many interesting and useful editing tools, especially if I am interested in highlighting something important in the images. It is also one of the few programs that makes captures without worrying about the name you put to the file when saving, it is a big enough time saving when you need to make many screenshots and the name is the least important. ShareX also has many tools apart from the edition, which give the program greater richness. **What do you dislike about ShareX?** ShareX can be a bit complicated and cumbersome to use at the beginning, as it has a wide variety of options. However, over time the program and its use become better known. There are many advanced options that many beginner users will overlook and therefore will miss out on all the advantages of the program. **Recommendations to others considering ShareX:** I recommend installing ShareX always on any computer. ShareX it's the revolution the Impr Pant key with steroids, you can even choose the shape! no more boring squares include beautiful drawing tools, fast response, upload to server and text recognize better known as OCR, transparent captures, drag & drop capabilities, image effects, even post to Twitter. It is very customizable and easily understood. **What do you dislike about ShareX?** A problem this can have is binding screen capture to print screen can accidentally capture multiple monitors and upload them immediately to the internet. An easy solution is changing the keybind. **Recommendations to others considering ShareX:** It is by far one of the fastest screen sharing tools to use, because of it's immediate upload (to imgur) of the capture. I don't know how I could live without this feature at this point. In addition, the fact that you are able to upload to your own server is very amazing, considering this is an open-source application. When I first got the product, I only expected it to be able to upload to sites such as imgur, dropbox etc., but I was pleasantly surprised when I found out I could already upload to my existing server with minimal setup. **What do you dislike about ShareX?** Can be rather difficult to set up custom uploaders if you have no idea what you're doing. Proprietary upload scripts and support for these scripts would be extremely beneficial to basic application-users. **Recommendations to others considering ShareX:** If you have the know-how to set up your own upload scripts, then ShareX would be extremely beneficial to any user, in my opinion. Even if you aren't well versed in these scripts, there are predefined upload locations inside the program such as imgur, dropbox and mega. It's extremely easy to get set up no matter what situation you're in. **What problems is ShareX solving and how is that benefiting you?** Screenshots before using this program would have to be uploaded either to an external service or through cropping a windows-based screenshot.
