That's probably my favorite part. I also love that you can transform videos into just audio files. As a teacher, I use it a lot for explaining and modeling, which is wonderful for students who aren't in the classroom, especially those on independent study. It allows me to record and personalize videos or model multistep processes, which is very helpful. Sometimes I use it to read a text to students, stopping and modeling annotations, and it's great to have an audio version of the text for students to listen to if that's how they learn best. **What do you dislike about Screencastify?** I think maybe I tried to download too many audios, and it said I had to upgrade. That would be my only critique, for educators, maybe there could be free or... **What problems is Screencastify solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Screencastify to explain and model assignments for students, solving the problem of not being able to do this in person. It's especially helpful for students on independent study, personalizing content and demonstrating multistep processes effectively. ### 2. It's straightforward to set up; you just download the program, and you're ready to start. The editing tool is something I like a lot too because it's easy to complete. I can just go in and pull out unnecessary parts, like interruptions during class recordings. **What do you dislike about Screencastify?** One of the issues I've had with Screencastify is that it's technologically a little bit above some of the pieces of equipment I have at the public school setting. We don't get new equipment very often, so we're using old versions of different software and technology. I've also had issues using it with older equipment like the box slot in my Boxlight, which is hard to use with Screencastify, leading me to use an older computer for compatibility. **What problems is Screencastify solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use Screencastify to help keep students who might be absent up to pace with the class. I record important lessons and post them on Google Classroom, allowing these students to view the lessons and ask questions. ### 3. It’s clearly designed to be used quickly and without fuss, which really matters for educators, right? When my classroom was more technology-based, I used it all the time. Even now, as I’m becoming a bit of a Luddite, I’m still glad I can navigate the program easily and find the features I need. **What do you dislike about Screencastify?** I don't have a downside. I'm sure the program is not perfect, but I've never had enough of a problem or complaint to remember, write down, or address. **What problems is Screencastify solving and how is that benefiting you?** I needed a way to connect with my students who were chronically absent. Creating videos that can be close-captioned, stopped for comprehension, and easily edited was a must. It streamlines my entire workflow: (1) Easy Recording: I can capture my screen and my webcam with just a couple of clicks. (2) Simple Editing: The browser-based editor is perfect for me to make quick trims, add text, or blur sensitive information. (3) Instant Sharing: As soon as it's done, I can upload it directly to my YouTube channel, which saves me all the hassle of downloading and re-uploading. This means I can create a polished, clear "how-to" video and share it with my trainees in just minutes. **What do you dislike about Screencastify?** My biggest frustration is that I can't change the playback speed 'inside' the editor. I want to review my video at 1.5x or 2x speed to quickly catch mistakes before I export. Instead, I'm forced to re-watch everything at normal speed. If I find an error after exporting, I have to go all the way back, edit, and re-export, which wastes a lot of time. **What problems is Screencastify solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a Google Certified Trainer, my main business problem is time and the need to reach more people. I can't be everywhere at once answering the same questions. Screencastify solves this by letting me create a "record once, share many times" training library. The extension makes it very quick to record a screencast. I am able to do some editing after the fact, but I rarely need to. One of my favorite features is that I can immediately publish to YouTube. This makes it super simple for me to put my training videos onto YouTube so that I can refer to them later. **What do you dislike about Screencastify?** Sometimes there are glitches or delays. I've done some recordings that miss the beginning of my recording. I have also tried doing some editing, and when I preview it, I don't see everything in the preview window. It gets frozen on a screen, but the audio keeps playing. **What problems is Screencastify solving and how is that benefiting you?** I often need to make screencasts of tools to share with the teachers and students at my school. By using Screencastify, I can quickly create these and publish them to YouTube so that my audience has quick access.
