## SciNote Reviews
  ### 1. Amazing experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fábio R. | Pesquisador, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2024

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

I like SciNote because it quickly finds and manages my lab protocols.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

At the moment, nothing! SciNote is great for my job.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I need to have my lab protocols constantly near to me. With SciNote, it is straightforward and practical.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Thank you Fabio - good to hear that SciNote has been great for you!!

  ### 2. Learn a few steps which are not intuitive then SciNote can be very helpful.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeffrey K. A. | President / Founder & CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

Existing protocols can be easily edited and saved as new updated protocols.
Additional preparatory protocols can be easily embedded in an updated protocol using a # which pops up in a window.
Adding inventory items such as reagents was easy using Assigned Items.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Very large microscope stiched images (> 5Gb file size in Adobe Photoshop) could not be added to the Results in a protocol. Large files stored via Dropbox also could not be accessed quickly or easily.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking multiple experimental protocols while also integrating the multiple preparation steps and processes needed to run an experimental protocol.
SciNote was able to keep an accurate record of experiments and the details regarding reagent and microfluidic chip preparation, that was linked to each experiment.

  ### 3. Introduction to SciNote

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt m. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

Just starting to use SciNote but I like the availabilty for tracking the materials in the platform. I'm able to add materials upon arrival and track their consumption. We will also be leveraging it for GMP records as a placeholder to track materials used in the production run.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

the tracking of forms inserted, currently when a form is uploaded and replaced you cannot seee the previous version, or that is my experience. I may be incorrect but I know it is on the radar for improvement.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me it is tracking materials used in batch records executed outside the platform. I can reconcile BRs that are not executed in SciNote much easier using the material tracking feature.

  ### 4. Very flexible, user friendly, and adaptable

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cathy O. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

SciNote has been a great tool for us as a biotech start-up. It's flexible enough to adapt it to our own requirements and has great functionality even at the basic level. We're able to use it to upload communal protocols, upload specific experiments, and also have inventories for everyone to be able to see. The customer support is always very helpful and quick to respond. We were able to easily and quickly implement the system for our uses.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Sometimes the automated alerts don't work (i.e. I don't get a notification when an experiment has been sent to me for review).

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a new start-up, it's important for us to be able to quickly and accurately document experiments, reagents and ideas. SciNote is better than a paper labbook for many reasons: no handwriting involved, up-to-date note keeping, and date/time stamped entries with an archive function.

  ### 5. Good ELN with wide variety of capabilities

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Chemicals | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

I love having access to my lab notebook from anywhere. Scinote also has pretty good organization within the system for inventories, projects, templates, etc. so it's always easy to find what I need. I spend all day every day in this system, so once you get used to the organizational structure it is really quick to navigate. Switching from a paper based system was a bit of a learning cure but ultimately was the right decision for our team. Their support team has been able to assist with glitches/bugs and are very quick to respond.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

The plug in excel capabilities within scinote are definitely lacking. I'd love to see track changes for GMP compliance. The native "spreadsheet/tables" function that scinote has is basically useless, especially if you have large datasets or need to use formulas/calculations. I'd really encourage the developers to add more functionality to the MS office plug in rather than trying to make their own version, because they wouldn't be able to keep up with MS.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy to share and access data across an entire team of multiple people. Allows us to be completely paperless.

  ### 6. Use of Scinote in a Plant genomics laboratory and service context

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

The organisation and development of work flows is very useful. Capture of Lab data in a centralised anywhere access mode. Once famililiar with the internal workflow of SciNote it is fairly easy to use. Customer support has been excellent and helpful in establishing the platform. I have struggled to get lab staff and students to engage fully with SciNote and I strongly suspect that the in lab use is difficult with a Laptop and use of scinote on browsers on tablets is a less than exciting/intuitive experience.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Some of the organisation is a little 'clunky' and not very intuitive for new users. As a PI in a University Lab setting I always have 'new' users and convincing them to utilise the platform has been difficult. The interface with browsers on tablets/iPAD is quite difficult to navigate in a lab setting. Some work to develop 'native' user interfaces would go a long way to improving the in lab experience.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing a cerntalised capture of many student and researcher projects. As a University Laboratory and now a genome service I am working with a wide range of disparate projects. Enabling a central point of capture of work flows, methods and results is a great benefit to me as the PI in managing technical and scientific issues that arise.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello. Thank you for your review! We heard from other users that incorporating SciNote in weekly lab meetings is a great way to get other users to utilize SciNote. Hope this trick could work for you too!

For tablet/iPad, we recently rolled out the mobile app (link below). While it is currently in beta and has limited functionalities compared to the browser version, it is an area that we will be rolling out additional improvements in. If you have any suggestions or thoughts, do feel free to let us know - our Product team would be happy to hear your thoughts about how we could improve your tablet experience!

  ### 7. Better than not using an ELN

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

I've heard from colleagues that the customer support team is really friendly and helpful. I also think the inventories feature is a good idea.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Before using SciNote, I was using Benchling and found the Benchling UI much more intuitive. With SciNote, I get lost having to click through different screens to open different tasks in an experiment. I've also experienced some glitches where a table or plate I've incorporated into my protocol won't save the text I've written there and I'll have to re-write it multiple times. It's also not clear to me whether I can refer to different experiments using a link - I have previously found it useful on Benchling to be able to refer to a previous experiment using links to different entries. I also don't like that it organizes entries within a project alphabetically instead of by date they were created. It's also much harder to use tables to perform calculations - in Benchling, like on Excel, I can type in formulas and click to select different cells to incorporate into my formula, and then I can drag the formula to apply it to different cells. Here, I have to manually type in the coordinates of the cell I want to incorporate into my formula and I can't easily apply the same formula to multiple cells.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SciNote allows everyone on the team to access protocols and see results from experiments easily. It has helped me stay organized and allowed me to access previous results quickly. It's much better than using a paper lab notebook.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello! Thank you for providing your feedback. We actually have many users who switched from Benchling to SciNote - SciNote ELN sits on a hierarchy structure that can seem quite different from paper or other digital notebooks. The key reason for doing this is to ensure the data and metadata maintain some structure, and that your data and metadata will be clear not only to you right now, but will also be clear in the future when you come back to it or if anyone else in the lab needs to access the notes for collaboration. It also means that the information within SciNote is well set up for things like API, automation or even AI/ML in the future.

Of course, we understand there is always a transition when users go from one tool to another, which is why our support team is always around not only to answer questions but also to support you through the transition at no additional cost. Please feel free reach out to us - our team can also offer tips and tricks that could help with your general use. Like your colleagues said, we are very friendly and helpful!

On linking to other experiments, yes you can certainly do that in SciNote!! Our "smart annotation" system allows you to refer to SciNote elements (projects, experiments, tasks, and inventory items) by simply using #; you can also tag other team members using @. So instead of having to go to your other experiment to find the link, you can type # to cue up a list of experiments to link to. I included a link to an overview of this feature in our knowledge base for your information. For the table, I have passed on the comment to our Product team to make sure they are aware of the specific issues here and see how we can improve on this in the future.

Finally, regarding task sorting, we knew it is a challenge for users, and we certainly listened! Starting Oct 2023 (yes, it is in our latest feature release!), you can find an additional filter option in the Project table view called "Sort by Task ID." This sorting method will give sorting align with the creation date.

Hope these suggestions help. Again, please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions, want to know whether a feature is available, or have suggestions. We would love to see how we can improve your experience!

  ### 8. Functional and Easy to Use with some minor quirks

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

I like that SciNote is easy to use, intuitive, and has a good flow compared to some others I have used.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

I wish SciNote had a better way to incorporate Excel data (stuff copied from MS Excel) into my results or protocols - I have a hard time managing copy-pasted Excel cells and tables in Sci-note especially if they do not fit width-wise in the given window space (maybe make it so that I can scroll sideways if the table is broad?).
I wish there was an option to attach a file at any step of a protocol and not just at certain places (sometimes I like to add accompanying papers/references/images/files at a particular step without adding them within the text itself).
I also wish I could change the order of the results when I enter more than one results in an experiment.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I like being able to track my experiments and easily search for them later on. I like the tag feature where I can essentially use keywords to tag experiments with keywords for easy searching.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello - thank you for your feedback! I just added your comments to our system, so the Product team will be aware of them.

For ordering results, I know that the Product team has been working on updating the Results page. The first phase of the improvements has been rolled out in our Oct update, and they are planning the next one, which will include re-arrange results. I don't have the exact timeline, but it should come soon.

Updated Nov 7: I chatted with our CS team, and we are not sure why there isn't the option for you to attach a file at a protocol step (there should be!). There is an "Insert Content" drop-down to the right of each step; clicking that should display a list of options including text, file, table, well plate, and checklist. You can certainly add the file to your protocol step this way. If, however, you don't see the option, or if you are referring to something else, please do let us know and we will see how we can assist.

Thank you again for using SciNote!

  ### 9. Overall, a very good product. Easy to navigate and stay organized.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Food & Beverages | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

The project organization aspects of SciNote are very helpful. The project navigator makes organizing one person's projects easy, but also pickup where another chemist left off easy and clear.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

SciNote could still be refined in a few areas. An example of this would be, when I try to copy and paste in comments or checklists, instead of everything pasting in a single comment, SciNote will paste the comment as several bullet points/seperate comments. This is not a huge deal, but it is would be easier/faster if there was a way to copy and paste, but instead I just have to re-type everything out.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It acts as a way to record our progress involving R&D sample formulations. Originally, we would write out proceedures and any test results in a notebook. Using SciNote, the process of recording this information is much faster and we can now sign off on other chemist's work using the sign feature as a way to double check work.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello!

Thank you for your review - we are so glad to hear that SciNote helped improve your data documentation and sign off process!

I do want to follow up re: the copy/paste issue, but can't quite recreate it myself. Please don't hesitate to send this to your CSM so that we can take a closer look into this for you.

  ### 10. Useful and affordable

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 22, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

SciNote is a user-friendly tool that allows you to have an electronic notebook at an affordable price. It has several layers of organization of the information, which allows to have different projects and keep all your research data in order. You can also link docs, and add images to the protocols and results, which makes it a very complete tool. Inventories are a very useful tool to substitute excels, at least in our small lab. The tracking of changes is very clear.
The team at SciNote are constantly improving the app and asking for feedback, which is very nice. They also offer valuable guidance for troubleshooting.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

It would be nice to be able to directly print from the app instead of exporting the whole experiment.
Not being able to change the date of an experiment once created is necessary for the tracking, but at the same time is inconvenient when you reschedule something.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It enables data storage and accessibility of results to all the team. It also ensures data is organized and trackable.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Thank you for your review! I will be passing on your feedback to our product team - we are looking to further improve our mobile app, so feedback is much welcomed!

  ### 11. Excellent way to keep lab notebooks.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dawn M. | Research Associat, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 24, 2022

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

SciNote allows you to keep all protocols, inventories, raw data, analysis and comments in one easily accessible place. No more going through the stack of paper notebooks to find things. The PI can search for experimental data from anywhere. Students can easily be shared data within your research group. It is especially good when you have large data sets. You can group things together for papers and link data.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

The only issue is getting the students to input all their protocols and data and keep it up to date. If you make it mandatory to present out of SciNote for lab meetings, it gets the students into the habit of putting their work into Scinote regularly.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Storage of large data files and analyses is easy with SciNote. it is very easy for the PI to look up data and experiments when they are away at conferences.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello Dawn,

Thank you for the tip of using SciNote in lab meetings to get students to input their data regularly. We will be sharing this with other users for sure!

  ### 12. Very intuitive and easy to use!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hana . | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2024

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

The aesthetically pleasing SciNote interface makes it easy to use for everybody.
Very smart Import of inventories from previously existed excel files saves a lot of time in the implementation process.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Limited possibilities (color, different styles such as italic, bold) for multi well plate layouts in protocols.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SciNote helps us in unification of our reports and inventory system.

  ### 13. Great product, great service, great price.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2024

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

The free version of the license works best and fits all my needs.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

You cannot delete experiments once you create them which can be frustrating when you plan and setup an experiment in scinote that you never run and now cant delete from your notebook.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easily accessible ELN with excellent customizability.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello! Thank you very much for your feedback. Experiments cannot be deleted for traceability reasons- but you can definitely archive experiments to move it out of the way! I added the link from our knowledge base about archiving experiment.

Hope this helps and thank you for using SciNote!

  ### 14. It’s a versatile and user friendly platform.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2024

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

It has all the features we need for our electronic lab notebook as a startup biotech company.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Sometimes importing large files to the inventory getaway messed up.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To keep trak of daily tasks and lab reagents and let the team members be aware of the tasks that are done

  ### 15. Makes Keeping a Lab notebook easy!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Erin B. | Research Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

Linking the inventories with your lab notebook is the most useful part!! You can easily see what tasks have been performed on your samples and have parent-child relationships between the tissue sources and their products (i.e DNA/RNA/protein/cDNA). Protocol libraries help with the consistency of lab work and let you see precisely how a task/experiment was performed. Being able to change setup sheets as you run the experiment allows us to better capture what we did with the side benefit of decreasing our paper usage. The search function is also extremely powerful for locating the experiments performed and sample ids. Lastly, the customer support is awesome! We love our assigned customer specialist Audreu Apgar!

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

The tables that are within the protocol; we find ourselves attaching Excel sheets instead of using their tables for sample mapping. Also batch updating inventories. After adding items to an inventory you have to go to each item individually to update instead of selecting a group of samples and updating them all at the same times

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves the brain drain when lab members leave or are promoted. Helps every know where our samples are and which aliquots are best to use. Decreases paper usage and the tedious time to "scrap book" your experiments. As a lab manager, I can assign tasks to a lab tech and they can easily find the samples, reagents, and protocols to perform it while also notifying me of their progress.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Thank you, Erin, for your wonderful review! I know that we have been looking to improve the tables within SciNote. Also, you can now edit multiple items within the inventory - I know this is not the same as batch edit, so I just logged this suggestion into our system so the Product team is aware of this.

  ### 16. SciNote: A modern and practical way to organize your projects/experiments

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

The overall structuer of SciNote is intuitive and you can easily learn a lot about its functionality by just clicking around. It has benefitted our lab in many ways: being able to link inventory to your lab notes, being able to easily search for and track samples, and being able to easily update and follow different versions of protocols. The customor support is amazing! Working with Audrey was a breeze. She a had a lot of ideas on how to help us organize our functions into SciNote and was very knowledgable.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Not sure if this is so much a SciNote problem or more of a human problem of being resistant to change. Someone on the teams needs to be committed to transitioning from paper to electronic. There will be growing pains as you adapt the old way of dong things to an eletronic format, but it's really worth it.

One thing that does annoying me is not being able to format tables in the steps. I like using colors to coordinate my different experimental treatments, and I am unable to do that if I am using a table for calculations. I also would like to be able to change the width of columns so I can see all my information on one line. It is also just more aesthetically pleasing. Other options I would like: being able to determine the number of places a decimal can go to; seeing 3.3 vs 3.33333333333. Some other glitches: copying a table over from excel into a text document is inconsistently glitchy. Sometimes it allows me to retain my excel formatting, something it doesn't.

The app version has a long way to go before it is more usable

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tracking Samples - No need to waste time flipping through paper notebooks with bad handwriting done 10 years ago
No need to print off Set-Up Sheets - Saving the planet by using less paper and re-printing stuff when I just need to make small changes

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello - thank you for your review! I know the challenge of formatting the table is something the team is working on to resolve - I just added your comment into the system as well to push the suggestion up to our Product team.

The SciNote app is currently in beta; it is a major focus for further development. Do feel free to let your CSM know how you would like to see the SciNote app being improved (e.g., additional functionalities, interface, etc).

Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts about SciNote!

  ### 17. Great digital lab notebook

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 30, 2022

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

The most convenient feature is the summary of reports. It's easy to combine protocols, the results and analysis for review. It is extremely beneficial for new members to catch up on the various projects. The additional of the inventory system has made it convenient for us to keep track of our manufacturing.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

I believe improvements can be made in the item barcode/QR area. It cannot be exported to be printed using a universal barcode maker. Additional changes can be made for the task integration. The sequence of creating tasks in experiments is a little time-consuming, and could be made more streamlined.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was great to have the inventory tracking feature introduced. It helps us ensure we are never running out of raw materials and keep track of manufactured prototypes for testing.

  ### 18. work with Scinote

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yi-Ju W. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2024

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

gernerate reoprt easier than others, and well organize

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

you cannot discard what your projects in a easy way

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we cannot gernerate a pdf file for our report at some point and the technician response it in a quick way

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello Yi-Ju. Thank you for your review of SciNote! The reason that users can't discard projects easily is to ensure compliance and traceability, plus to allow easy recovery of data. For example, if you delete a project thinking that you no longer need it, but later realize that you need some information from the project - in SciNote, you can quickly retrieve the information that was archived.

It's great to hear that you are utilizing our reports feature, by the way! I am so happy to hear that the team was helpful when you encountered issues. Do feel free to let us know if you have any other questions!

  ### 19. Easy to use, versatile ELN

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

SciNote is very intuitive to use for the most part. For the features that are more complicated, they have an extensive video library. They've clearly put a lot of thought into UX/UI and it shows. It's also very versatile. We current use it as a GxP LIMS and although it's not perfect, it gets the job done.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

While the video tutorials are useful, it doesn't cover everything. A tech /customer support function would be very useful. Their tech support is pretty responsive when you do email.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were looking for an easy-to-use 21 CFR Part 11 compliant LIMS system. While SciNote is technically an ELN, it covers a lot of functions we needed and it was a lot less clunkier than some of the other options we were looking at.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Thank you Priyanka for your kind words! We will be reaching out to see what other video tutorials we can help provide. Also, your dedicated CS Manager is always happy to provide additional tips and tricks or even create videos covering specific topics you need - so do feel free to let our CS team know when you have such needs (it's all covered within your premium plan - no additional charge).

Thank you again - appreciate your support of SciNote!

  ### 21. SciNote is a comprehensive program

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

I like how easy it is to share scinote projects with other members of the team

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

I really dislike the navigator when you click the projects tab. Please please please make it so I can make the navigator box larger. Once you start clicking the down arrows, the new text gets cut off and its so frustrating. I understand I can just look at the table view or card view, but maybe just make a navigator view option and remove the navigator on the side. Thanks!

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scinote is great for keeping track of my and my boss' experiments. We keep good notes so its amazing to be able to find all the information on a study and what was done previously for that study.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> [Updated Nov 20] Just want to let you know that the latest release includes the ability to resize the navigator panel!!

Hello. Thank you for your feedback regarding the navigator pane! I just passed on this feedback to the Product team. Also, as a quick workaround, hover/pause the cursor over the item within the navigator panel to display the full name of the task. Hope this helps!

  ### 22. It gets the job done.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Svit . | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

It's a great tool to have in a GxP enviroment. It has all the necessary features and and allow good organisation of tasks, which makes it easy to integrate in everyday work.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

The whole navigation around SciNote can be a bit tricky. It take a bit of time to get used to. Overwhelming amount of emails it sends during a shared task sometimes makes it impossible to know when it's your turn to step in and contribute.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Organisation of documentation in GxP enviroment, which allows us to comeplete our work following all regulations.

  ### 23. User-friendly application

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katja R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

SciNote is a a user-friendly application, easy to use, it made our work a lot easier. The implementation of SciNote was well supported by the provider, user support is also great. We use it daily to manage our documents.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

At the stage of preparing the document (module) for signing, the application could be a bit faster.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to manage documentation, as a kind of electronic office (management of change requests, deviations, trainings). There is no need to scan and send documents to other people, everything is doe inside SciNote.

  ### 24. Lacking in basic functionality

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maxwell L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 25, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

Scinote has flexible organization and user friendly interfaces. The inventory features are nice.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

The options and functionality within the experiment steps are severely lacking . The inability of scinote to easily perform calculations within tables renders them useless and requires users to attach office documents to supplement their experiments.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scinote does allow for straightforward organization and specific collaboration across users at the task level which is useful because in most cases a collaboration is limited to specific subtasks within an experiment.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello Maxwell. I am sorry to hear that you have been unhappy with SciNote. Can you let me know what kind of basic functionalities or options you are looking for, that SciNote is lacking?

As for calculations, SciNote does support basic math operations and formulas (see resource link below). For more advanced calculations, indeed Excel is much appropriate, but with SciNote's Office Online integration, the file can be created, opened, and edited directly through SciNote.

I hope the resource link here helps improve your SciNote experience, as 1.5/5 stars is not something we strive for. Do feel free to reach out to your CSM any time if you have suggestions or feedback for the product. We are looking for as much information as possible to help us direct the Product team for a solution that will address the challenge you face when using SciNote.

  ### 25. Easy to use and great customer service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

Everything is laid out in an intuitive way. Works quickly and efficiently and visually great. Allows me to visualize my experiments and projects much better than a lot of other ELNs. The app is also very helpful.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Extra fee for stock management. Is not very well suited to smaller-screens like 12inch laptops.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allows us to organize our projects and experiments and keeps track of everything we do.

  ### 26. Robust platform for scientific record keeping

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

The biggest benefit of SciNote is the flexibility of the teams and projects. Lab members are able to keep records in an organized manner that works best for their project and workflow.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

SciNote is somewhat expensive and has several features that are not useful for a small academic lab.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My lab is primarily undergraduate students so there is relatively high turnover. The SciNote platform allows seemless transition between students and allows for continuity in our projects.

  ### 27. Upgrading lab books and team organisation to a new unmatched level.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** André R. | Scientist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

The inclusion of "tasks" within a canvas workflow offers several advantages. Firstly, it greatly enhances the coordination of complex workflows within your team, making it easier to plan and comprehend experiment details. Moreover, the option to assign and #-tag items and other entries introduces an unparalleled flexibility to both planning and tracking. This flexibility enables the seamless integration of adaptable R&D protocols, while still remaining compatible with routine protocols

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Firstly, uploaded files in the result tab that have been archived can be effortlessly deleted, this is for some QA restriction difficult.
Additionally, there are instances where restricting editing access to specific users for certain inventories proves beneficial. To facilitate communication and expand capabilities, the option to invite other SciNote users (who are not part of your team) to an inventory becomes incredibly valuable. This extended access could potentially enable them to contribute items to the inventory as well.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Firstly, it significantly reduces paper wastage by minimizing the need for extensive printing. Additionally, the automatic date and user stamp feature saves considerable time otherwise spent on manually signing and dating lab book entries. Furthermore, it functions as an integrated system that seamlessly connects various components, eliminating the need to navigate through countless disparate Excel sheets. Unfortunately, many organizations have yet to establish a robust database system and continue to rely on Excel sheets to store data. SciNote offers a way out of this situation.

Another significant advantage is the Scinote search bar, which effectively locates virtually every entry. This greatly enhances the overall project and organizational overview, contributing to improved efficiency and accessibility.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello Andre. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us - we are glad that the flexibility of the system, together with the visualized workflow and smart annotation, have been helpful for you and your team!

I will be passing on your feedback re: files in the results tab and the ability to share an inventory with SciNote users who are not team members to our Product team. Do feel free to chat directly with your CS Manager to share your feedback, as they would advocate for your needs and have direct communication with our Product team as well.

Thank you again for choosing SciNote!

It really easy to create protocol templetes that can be used for different projects. Its easy of implementation of the subtasks and to intigrate excel tools is very nice

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

it will be nice to see if they can add the functionality to select the subsections from different reports during compliation.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps keep track of the experimental results during an assay development and the easy of generating quarterly research reports is very useful.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Scinote at times can be tricky to navigate with the many folders and layers it contains.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scinote solves the problem of us needing to use a traditional notebook. Scionte allows us all to input our data and information into one secure location s instead of everyone having their own notebook.

  ### 30. Partner in new horizons of research and development discovery in Argentina

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maria Celeste M. | Lab & Operations Manager, Biotechnology, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

I appreciate the way I conduct experiments and manage my work. One of the most striking advantages of utilizing an ELN is its exceptional ability to enhance protocol organization.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

The lack of quality system for the documents could be a significant limitation. Researchers and institutions that require meticulous documentation of changes, approvals, and document revisions may find themselves seeking additional solutions to supplement SciNote's capabilities in this aspect.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Its exceptional ability to enhance protocol organization, precision and accuracy are paramount, so having a digital platform that allows me to document, categorize, and retrieve protocols is a game-changer. It is capacity to facilitate experiment replication is nothing short of remarkable. The inherent complexity of molecular biology demands precision and repeatability. SciNote enables the swift reproduction of experiments not only ensures the integrity of my research but also expedites the process of refining methodologies.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anna U. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

I love the version controls of the templates - and the ease in going back to an older version when the need arises. The experiment level templates are also useful as we often times run multiple round sof the same workflow.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

when using SciNote for capturing data, it would be great if there was a way to "lock" the tables or format them so that acceptable variable types can be enforced across multiple users.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SciNote has been great for keeping the details of experiment while ensuring that the each experiment fits in the workflow well. Having access to the templates also ensures the reproducibility of the experiments.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello Anna. We are glad to hear templates and version controls are helpful for you! I will pass on your comment regarding table locking to our Product team - please also feel free to share this feedback to your CS Manager, who will advocate for your needs as well.

Thank you for using SciNote!

ELN can be customized for different needs. Assignment between intentories and experiments are precious. Unique IDs are helpfull for references documentation. Scinote plateform often releases new features that improve its utilization. Technical service is easy and rapid with frequent follow up.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

Multiple users can not write in the same text box simultaneously. Refreshing page must be done if a user wrote in the same page to avoid loosing the most accurate version. Experiment can not be transfered in any other sub-folder.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Everything is in one place. Quality control can be done. Easy to export reports.

  ### 33. Works reasonably well

**Reviewed by:** Matthew G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2023

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

Navigating through menus is fairly straightforward.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

The delineation between, project, experiment, and task is a bit clunky. It's not clear how one goes about deleting a project, or how to create a protocol, say if you duplicate information at either the project, experiment, or task level to convert to a protocol.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need clear documentation for experiments, which SciNote is helping with.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello Matthew. Thanks for letting us know! I connected with your Customer Success Manager, and he will be reaching out to you as well as your organization admin soon to make sure we walk you through the steps of archiving projects (most items in SciNote can only be archived for traceability reasons), creating protocols, and converting tasks into protocol templates.

**What do you like best about SciNote?**

Ease and simplicity to drag and drop files into notebook entries for simple uploads.

**What do you dislike about SciNote?**

The phases of approval. Would be easier if you just created an entry then had it signed by colleague instead of 3-4 phases of notebook entry.

**What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy to record and preseve notebook entries. Benefit is the simplicity and time saving of dragging and dropping files into software.

**Official Response from Theresa Liao:**

> Hello Jordan. Thanks for your review! I checked with our Product team about the phases of approval. The team said that this is mainly due to compliance reasons. As SciNote has been developed following regulatory guidelines, each status has some specifics that need to happen before transitioning to the next. (i.e. when moving a task from In progress to Completed, the completed date is automatically logged in the system; when moving to In review, the task is locked and default signature requests are automatically sent...).

If modifying the approval status is necessary for your company's workflow, though, please let your CSM know! We do offer custom development when it comes to user permission levels, reports, and approval status.

Thank you for using SciNote to manage your data!
