**What do you like best about Scilab?**

Scilab is freely available and can be used by anyone for any purpose. Scilab provides various numerical analysis tools, including matrix computations, signal processing, optimisation, and statistics, making it an excellent choice for scientific and engineering applications. Scilab can be easily extended with user-defined functions and modules, allowing users to customise it for their specific needs.

**What do you dislike about Scilab?**

While an active user community provides support, tutorials, and code examples, commercial permission for Scilab may be limited compared to commercial software packages. Scilab is cross-platform; compatibility issues may exist with specific hardware or software configurations. Some features may also not be fully supported on particular platforms.

**What problems is Scilab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Scilab for financial analysis and risk management, providing tools for portfolio optimisation, option pricing, and financial modelling. It allows for powerful statistical tools, visualisation capabilities, and machine learning algorithms.

  ### 3. Scilab is a useful introductory platform to programming

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Scilab?**

Scilab provides a helpful framework and design to learn how to program and use it in simple computational and numerical algorithms.

**What do you dislike about Scilab?**

Scilab is limited in its objects. Given that it is free software, help and documentation may be lacking.

**What problems is Scilab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scilab served as a first introduction platform for computational analysis at an undergraduate level. It is simple to use.

  ### 4. Good Open Source Tool for Data Science

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tanishq G. | Data Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 29, 2022

**What do you like best about Scilab?**

It's open-source, yet so powerful and got large community support online, it's easy to find answers to your problem. Anyone can install it, unlike MATLAB which is paid. Its programming is similar to MATLAB making it easy to switch to open source. Even its size is a lot smaller than MATLAB, so if you use MATLAB for computational purposes (no Simulink) we can switch to it and do a lot of great stuff.

**What do you dislike about Scilab?**

Its interface is too bland although I don't dislike it now, in starting it just makes things boring, its color and everything is just so simple. It doesn't have autocomplete feature, which is quite helpful when you start learning something new. They can also add new themes to colorize the editor, which is also missing currently.

**What problems is Scilab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have made many models with Scilab, which gave me quite useful insights, its graphing is what I used most and still use. Graphs help me understand things more practically and thus make learning and developing fun, interesting and understandable. I also used it a lot in my college. I use it more often than MATLAB due to its fewer RAM and ROM requirements.

  ### 5. Great software to solve & evaluate complex mathematical & engineering problems

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tejas H. | Deputy Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2022

**What do you like best about Scilab?**

1. First and foremost feature is it's free of cost so anyone can take benefit of it!
2. One can solve and analyze complex problems in electrical engineering.
3. Users can able to understand graphical behavior under different circumstances.

**What do you dislike about Scilab?**

As it is free & open-source and free software so one should not complain about it but I would like to give a few suggestions:
1. User interface could become more attractive.
2. More functions should be introduced.
3. Sometimes it takes time to fully load software but this might be a problem only with my pc it may vary pc to pc.

**What problems is Scilab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have using Scilab since the second year of my engineering studies. Scilab helps a lot while solving complex mathematical problems, their graphical representations under different circumstances. In short, Scilab helps to solve problems in science, mathematics & engineering studies.

  ### 6. A great open-source software for scientific manipulation of data.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mitali K. | Editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Scilab?**

I like how I can plot vadious complex functions and solve big mathematical equations by writing a few lines of code. Scilab provides high-quality features and methods to plot graphs in various different ways in a single open-source software.

**What do you dislike about Scilab?**

When using graphic windows, everytime I run the program, I have to click on the graphic window tab again and again in order to open it, which is quite tiresome and time-consuming. It would be better if all the windows associated with a single program displayed on their own upon execution.

**What problems is Scilab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scilab is helping me through my degree and project to solve various mathematical problems and predict how different functions behave. The codes are fairly simple to learn, giving immense functionality at the same time.

**What do you like best about Scilab?**

Scilab is a very good software that is an open-source freely available and user-friendly interface and by use of this software, I do solve different types of equations and data analysis and scientific computation. It is most widely used for alternative of Matlab for low level computation.

**What do you dislike about Scilab?**

As per observation, sometimes it gives errors and the interface is less attractive and it provides the fewer option compare to Simulink Software.

**Recommendations to others considering Scilab:**

One should try this software one who is looking for the best alternative to Matlab software for scientific calculation and data analysis because it is free and easy to use and good help is also available.

  ### 9. Good For Science Beginner

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vipul R. | I'm grad student., Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Scilab?**

I use 1st time Scilab in my under graduation, when we pursue graduation in physics we have encounter a lots of differential equations (likes Harmonics oscillator , Forced Oscillator, wave equations) without plotting graph of these we can never understand what is going on the system, how the system behaves with time. The best thing about the Scilab it is provide X-Cos simulations features here we can provides various input to the block and see the how the function behaves.

**What do you dislike about Scilab?**

when we define some functions sometimes show error, I think scilab help sections not very proper but you can take help by community. Scilab help section should be better and easily understandable.

**Recommendations to others considering Scilab:**

I'm not any employee of the any company. I'm just a grad student if you are student or employee you can learn scilab programming very easily. Lots of resources available online.

**What problems is Scilab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Most of the time I solved differential equations likes oscillating circuit (LCR, LC circuits) it very difficult to analyze equation of motion which is the form of differential equation, So in Scilab we can plot the graph and see how the function behaves with time. In mathematics and physics we encountered various polynomial function like ( Legendre & Laguerre Polynomial) which is very difficult to drawing to after 5 order but I draw very easily by Scilab by just defining function.

  ### 10. Scilab is basically open source free software and act like MATLAB
