nothing at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Petrel is an excellent tool for geoscientists overall, the fact that you can interpret seismic data while working with well log information provides accurate subsurface models. Plus, the fact that you can use SIS, OBM and MPS modeling makes your geological model derive from the standar layer strata models. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I don't like that much the seismic attributes available in the software. Also it is really expensive because it is a Schlumberger product, but for big companies or universities this shouldn't be an issua compared with what you get for with the program. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that you can link projects in other programs directly to petrel. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The program is hard to navigate through. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is an excellent modulator when carrying out some geological exploration, since it gives you the minimum properties of the deposit such as porosity, permeability among others, factors that are of great importance at the time of the simulation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
the disadvantage of it is that it is not capable of representing the characteristics of the deposit itself, other software must be integrated to complete the tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I am fairly new in the business, but I found using Petrel a little bit easier compare to other programs (like Paradigm and DSG). Also, because Petrel is an older program, it looks like they are more experienced, so Petrel is pretty comprehensive. Also, their supports are really good and helpful. I enjoyed their courses too. Since they are an older program, the models and windows (like well correlation window) look a little old compare to other new programs (like Paradigm). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have used Petrel for almost a decade and have enjoyed the effort put in by the software provider to stay current with developments in the oil and gas industry.
I very much like that the tool has evolved from being predominantly a niche three-dimensional earth modeling platform to a single source integrated subsurface evaluation environment.
For a small petroleum exploration and production company with potentially limited resources to patronize many software providers, it is possible to perform full subsurface evaluation, from seismic interpretation to reservoir simulation in Petrel. Pretty awesome! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It does take a while for newbies to get used to the many functionalities in the tool. This may sometimes appear overwhelming, especially without a tutor or guide to provide initial direction.
The user manual is however very helpful in resolving this challenge. My recommendation would be to be patient as an initial user and follow the manual step-by-step. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
