**Reviewed Date:** September 13, 2023

**What do you like best about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

The hover to discover links to Documentation, but also information on definition on syntax and available options.
Hover to discover is made even better with autofill drop downs as I'm typing. Sometimes it's nice to not have to remember and I often learn new options as I'm programming.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

Nothing really. I suppose I wish it could provide paths forward to new content that might be related. For example, to suggest reviewing a related function that might be good to consider. kind of like the "Also See" area of the documentation.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SAS EG is solving the problem of content knowledge expertise variation. It helps me stay educated as I program. I might not need help knowing how to get to my end, but specific syntax help is awesome and the drop down cut back on the actual amount of typing required.

  ### 12. My preferred platform for SAS program development

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Philip H. | Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2020

**What do you like best about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

I have been using SAS Enterprise Guide for SAS program development since 2001 with version 1.1.1. Now at version 8.2 the improvements have made development easier over time:
* Code is run on connected SAS servers, which can be local or remote, so that SAS maintenance can be centralised. Network traffic between the user and the server is limited to code being sent and results outputs being returned, so the speed of SAS execution is mostly dependent on the speed of the server, unless the results outputs are particularly large.
* Programs can be organised in flows, so that processing can be sequenced and conditional, which makes it possible to select particular programs and dependencies.
* While not a full IDE for SAS development it includes Git integration for retaining program development history (from version 7.1), code formatting and pop-up syntax help (from version 4.3), an in-built Data Step debugger (from version 7.13), log summary (from version 6.1), and a data explorer (from version 5.1).
* SAS Enterprise Guide functionality can be extended using Custom Tasks, which can be written in .Net from version 4.1.
* The application can be updated with hot-fixes by users, if permitted by corporate maintenance rules, with the SAS Enterprise Guide Updater added in version 7.11.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

* While individual SAS programs can be saved to disk either locally or remotely from SAS Enterprise Guide, they can also be saved in Project files along with the flow information. These Project files are version-dependent, and can only be opened by SAS Enterprise Guide version greater or equals to the version that created the Project file. This means that care should be taken when sharing Project files, as another user may be able to open it in a later version, but, if they then save that file again, that file will be inaccessible to earlier versions.
* Although SAS Enterprise Guide appears to be an interactive environment for SAS, the execution of SAS code is closer to batch submission, so no interactive SAS features can be used in SAS programs.
* Because SAS Enterprise Guide is a Windows-only application, it has to be installed and maintained on individual PCs, unless it can be virtualised on a remote Windows desktop.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

* Running SAS programs on remote SAS servers anywhere in the world is not significantly slower than running them on a local SAS installation. Because very little data is passing through the network between SAS Enterprise Guide and the SAS servers, processing is primarily dependent on the speed of the server, not its location.
* Executing and tracking suites of SAS programs in the correct order is very simple with the flows.

  ### 13. Aesthetically Pleasing & Great Accessibility

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

The manipulation of the data results tab makes it so easy to slice and dice data without having to write extra code. Being able to delete/insert rows on the dataset of the results tab is an amazing feature too. Comparing to just a viewable table in Python or R.

The programing language and support is highly lacking. SAS being a very old platform, the documentation lacks examples. Every single feature requires intensive research from whitepaper. The community support is not as big as some other popular softwares in the data analytics realm.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of use to solve huge computation of data. Ease of code execution without worrying about computing power because SAS allows concurrency and jobs can be parsed throughout multiple nodes which as a result speed things up.

  ### 35. Definitely the best IDE for working with SAS

**What do you like best about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

SAS Enterprise Guide is an excellent tool provided by SAS to work with SAS Engine and allows developers to create SAS programs, manage datasets, create processes-workflows, analyze datasets through point and click etc. The best advantage in using SAS E.G. as an IDE is because this tool can make your development time much more effective since it is very easy to access datasets, assign new libraries, check logs (for debugging), coding (provide hints), using user defined datasets and variables etc.
Exporting codes, saving projects, running pieces of codes, documenting codes, creating copies of codes are examples of tasks that can be done easily with SAS E.G.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

SAS Enterprise Guide requires reasonable computer resources (cpu, memory) so the users might need a good computer to use it properly. Most of times when you try to view large datasets through this tool it can get stuck so you should avoid it. Overall there isn't many disadvantages using this tool, however you should keep aware in some details regarding it's features to use wisely all the power of this.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SAS Enterprise Guide is a tool used to help SAS developer to create codes faster. It can be very useful for non advanced technical users since it also provide a visual development module to work with data through "point and click" usability. ### 36. All in One Power Punch

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andries v. | Data Scientist/Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2020

**What do you like best about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

Extreme diversity and ability to connect to a very wide range of data platforms.
Still the powerfull SAS platform we are used to from base SAS.
code optimiser and formatter is very nice.
pre-made tasks like data exploration and the likes is relly awesome.
Can link directly to other SAS suites, like Enterprise Miner.
Drag and drop functionality is really powerful and easy - for example to import Excel files.
All your code files are stored in one project file. This does make version control somewhat difficult though.
True end-to-end solution.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

You cannot open multiple code or data table windows like one can in base SAS.
The automatic focus of your worksheet is rather annoying, how it keeps on flicking back to the top left hand corner.
Pity it does not automatically figure out and link dependencies and precedences.
No GIT intergration.
Does not fully support a scheduling tool - we had many issues with it.

**Recommendations to others considering SAS Enterprise Guide:**

Would absolutely recommend it!

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Anything from data extraction, management, clear up , pre and post processing, to advanced analytics and modelling. Scenario analysis and stress testing.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Telecommunications | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2020

**What do you like best about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

The best thing about SAS enterprise guide is the easiness of applying statistical tests and complex feature building for ML models to be used in SAS Eminer.
for example creating co efficient of variance & linear transformation features all in one loop on multiple columns.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

till my latest experience I've seen it difficult to integrate with big data Spark, the connectivity with Python opensource is complex.
Furthermore joining the big tables also takes more time and there is no performance management tool to see the performance of codes executed on SAS enterprise guide.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The major problems i am solving with SAS is creating huge ADS with 1000 of features to fed into the ML models, The benefit of SAS is the use of statistical tests i am applying on Campaign performance.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 07, 2018

**What do you like best about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

I like how SAS can handle large data sets without crashing. I’m able to run my analysis on SAS when the data is too large for excel and it is user friendly compared to a lot of other programming tools. If there is an error in the code it is pretty easy to find out where it is with SAS.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

The run time can still be slow even though it can handle large amounts of data. Sometimes the PROC will take hours to just filter through data to spit out what I’m referencing it. I feel like for how expensive the product is, it should be a lot quicker.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I’m using SAS to solve problems with my health care data when I need to find outliers in the data. The benefits of SAS is that I can use it as a go to software when excel is overwhelmed.

>New features like calling stored procs or modelling techniques
>Importing any Excel file is very easy, able to get all data
> Since this is not an Open source, so we can get better enterprise support, which ensures the high security of SAS,so many banking or financial firms are relying on this software, only because of secure environment and support from the SAS Institute

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

It still lacks the support for many Machine Learning Techniques, that are easily available in Python.
As compared to python, we can not design a whole application for like front end or GUI interface.
This is not an open source, so it bears a lot cost to get the license of this product. So many organizations are moving from other open source products like Python or R

**Recommendations to others considering SAS Enterprise Guide:**

You should definitely go for the SAS Enterprise Guide, if you need a proper process flow design and implementation of large datasets manipulations easy going and simpler programming language then definitely go for it.

  ### 44. SAS is a great all round tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2019

**What do you like best about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

SAS enterprise guide has an intuitive interface, which makes it easy to build process flows and structure projects.
The tips that appear when you hover over a keyword.
I like being able to import and export shortcuts using kmf files when moving to a new client.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

It would be useful to be able to move programs to different process flows using drag and drop.
It does not work well with dataflux.
On some projects Ii ahve worked on, I have needed to use analytical procedures like proc forest, but it would have meant paying for another licence which would be quite expensive, so some analysis may move to R or Python.

**Recommendations to others considering SAS Enterprise Guide:**

SAS enterprise guide and the SAS Suite in general are a great abd versatile range of products allowing users to to clean, manipulate and analyse large varied dataseta.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 45. Good for Data Analytics and Easy to Learn

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Management Consulting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2019

**What do you like best about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

I used SAS Enterprise Guide for data cleaning, data manipulation, forecasting activities. The best part of the program is how easy it is to use and to learn. I have experience with SQL and how to structure algorithm. With SAS you will have friendly user interfaces which you can use for creating projects of data analysis.

Apart from being easy to learn, the tool can handle huge amount of data that can not be handled by Excel. You can load tables via Excel, txt, databases and other formats then use the queries and take your data out to use in Excel for further reporting, charting and analysis.

The tool has built in modules for forecasting but you can use the tool to generate your own forecasting methodology. Once you are done with your project, it is very easy to send the project tree to another person via email.

Lastly you can view your project in terms of coding language.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

Even though the project tree structure creates a user friendly project designing capability, it may sometimes cause a problem. Such as you need to know the project tree by heart such as which part of the tree should run first before running the second part. There are ways to order the project modules but still problems may occur. So while using, be sure to follow the modules and be aware of the broken links between the modules.

The other dislike of mine is the processing time. It may take a lot of time to run a project depending on how big is your project and how big your data is.

**Recommendations to others considering SAS Enterprise Guide:**

Although tool offers reporting and dashboard capabilities, you may still want to use Excel for this purpose. Choose SAS EG for data analytics purposes.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Benefits are easy to learn and use. Strong enough to handle big data. Enough for making data cleaning, forecasting, and data manipulation.

Problem is the processing time of the data and helping the user to arrange the project module run sequence.

Easy to use, find insights in the data because it is a strong analytical tool capable of handling vast amounts of data. Process Flows make it great to divide up all your related work and be able to have a flow through the data journey. Ability to link with other data services. The error messages are a lot more useful than competitors.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

It is an old interface. It could be updated to make it more appealing. Appear

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to summarise vast amounts of information, over large periods of time in an effective process.

  ### 47. Graphical flow makes SQL operations easy but complexity is time-consuming

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2019

**What do you like best about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

While considering to buy a product, instead of paying attention to the needs of the current employees, it's important to calculate the scale and the consequences of the possible growth and the new team members. It's especially important to recognize for startups.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

SAS needs to upgrade the way product served to the customers which include UIs, end-to-end processes and simplicity.

**Recommendations to others considering SAS Enterprise Guide:**

If you are an analytics consulting company, SAS EG might be useful to consider for data preparation processes. If you are working with data scientist who is experienced in analytics and coding, they might complain about the accountability of the program.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use SAS EG in data cleansing and preprocessing for preparing structured data to process. While SQL operations are easy to apply with graphical UI and flow, the overall structure is too complex and time-consuming. We plan to move to cloud data services in 2019.

  ### 48. Great Software tool for Analytics and Reporting

It has the great processing power (easily process 1 billion records) and great for performing ad hoc analysis, automated report generation etc. However not that much suitable for generating interactive reports.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

Not a good tool for creating data pipeline, can't create interactive reports and some of the features on client enterprise guide has bugs and also it is little heavy software which consumes more RAM.

**Recommendations to others considering SAS Enterprise Guide:**

It is a good software for data analytics and reporting but it is not a good fit for creating interactive reports.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Through our ETL process we load the data into datamart and then create corresponding SAS dataset on which business perform analytics and generates reports for claims.

**What do you like best about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

The syntax is very easy and all the inbuilt procedures and functions help in solving all the business problems. We can use this tool for reporting as well for generating statistical outputs. Its data processing speed is also pretty much high.

**What do you dislike about SAS Enterprise Guide?**

It is a costly software because many free tools are available in the market which works the same but they are less efficient. Only basic stats functions are there we can not use this tool to build neural networks solution.

**Recommendations to others considering SAS Enterprise Guide:**

It is a good tool for finding insights from the data and also to learn.

**What problems is SAS Enterprise Guide solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This tool helps in predicting customer behavior by loading a huge amount of data into its environment very fast and to draw the statistical results out of it.
